After Winning The Esports Championship I'm Going To Pilot A Mecha

After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 131

131. Raid

“Pa da”

Miao Feiyan lit a cigarette. The faint flicker of the flame accentuated his finely chiseled features, resembling a delicately painted portrait. He extended the exquisite cigarette case to Ji Mingzhu. “Want one?”

Ji Mingzhu shook his head. “I don’t smoke.”

“Good habit.”

Miao Feiyan smiled, exhaling a smoke ring. He glanced at Ji Mingzhu and said, “You’re much younger than I imagined.”

“How did you know it was me?”

Ji Mingzhu countered, “We haven’t met before, have we?”

“Not hard to guess.”

Miao Feiyan remarked, “Apart from Red Guard Commander, among the remaining Titan pilots in the world who can operate at your level, there’s only you… Didn’t expect to find you here in Jiusheng City.”

Ji Mingzhu tilted his head slightly, looking somewhat surprised.

It sounded like Miao Feiyan knew him quite well.

“If you wanted to talk to me alone, is there something on your mind?” Ji Mingzhu pondered and asked.

“How long are you planning to stay in Jiusheng City?”

“…Can’t say for sure, might be here for a while.”

“Listen to my advice.”

Miao Feiyan narrowed his eyes, his slender phoenix eyes inscrutable in the dim light. “Leave as soon as you can.”

“Is this a warning?”

“No, it’s advice.”

Miao Feiyan continued, “Whether you listen or not is up to you. I don’t have any ill will towards you, just passing on a message for an acquaintance.”

An acquaintance?

Ji Mingzhu was taken aback. He pressed on, “Who is it?”

Miao Feiyan remained silent. After taking his final drag, he flicked the cigarette butt to the ground, extinguishing it with his foot. Then, he waved his hand. “I’m leaving.”

“What did he mean by that?”

Listening to Ji Mingzhu’s account, Yao Guang furrowed his brow. “I have a feeling… Jiusheng City seems to be more complicated than we thought.”

“Twelve satellite cities, none of them are simple.”

Ji Mingzhu said, “We’ve come this far; there’s no reason to retreat just because of Miao Feiyan’s words… Tian Ji, how’s it going on your end?”

“No abnormalities detected for now.”

Tian Ji stood on the rooftop of a tall building, peering through a telescope at a distant structure.

“The security system of this research institute is very tight, with guards on rotating shifts, changing posts every thirty seconds.”

Tian Ji continued, “The surrounding buildings are mostly sealed off, occasional movements of research personnel. Moreover, there seems to be a specialized anti-surveillance system inside the institute. Regular detectors won’t get in; we’ll have to find a chance to cut off the circuits and create a little chaos to attempt entry.”

Ji Mingzhu pondered for a moment. “Don’t you think there’s something inherently wrong with this?”

Tian Ji paused, “What do you mean?”

“I’ve noticed it too,” Yao Guang interjected. “This research institute is responsible for Titan maintenance and repair. While the security is tight, the issue is…”

“But there are no Titans left in Jiusheng City now.”

Ji Mingzhu continued, “The Titan Juexi has been intercepted by the Anomalist Division and is now in Yangyuan City. Yet this research institute hasn’t shut down; the security measures are as strict as ever.”

This in itself indicated many issues. If one were to follow this line of reasoning, the presence of Class L mechas within the institute was highly probable.

“Tian Ji, keep watching closely. Report any anomalies immediately.”

“Understood.”

After a brief discussion, the staff of Nightless City soon approached Ji Mingzhu, informing him that the Class A mecha was ready.

“Please follow me.”

With respectful deference, the staff led Ji Mingzhu to the underground mecha hangar of Nightless City. Through complex identity verification and security measures, Ji Mingzhu finally laid eyes on the mecha he desired.

[The Void Rift.]

Though the Void Rift was petite in size compared to the several ten-meter-tall mechas around, its aura of danger was unmistakable. Its cold, dark gray armor reflected no light under the lamps, akin to a black hole absorbing all radiance. Its slender and graceful figure, designed somewhat like a Felidae, exuded a captivating beauty.

“This one is the Void Rift.”

Boss Bei’s voice sounded behind Ji Mingzhu, “It’s currently out of production. Besides the Calamity Control Bureau, there are only two Void Rifts circulating on the market.”

With a smile, Boss Bei approached Ji Mingzhu and said, “So, how do you like it? Satisfied?”

Ji Mingzhu nodded, “It’s a very impressive mecha.”

Boss Bei didn’t inquire why Ji Mingzhu needed such a specialized mecha. Instead, he said, “The power core has been installed. Just sign here for the paperwork and we’ll input your identity information into the cockpit system.”

“Not a problem.”

“Don’t mention it.”

The funds from the casino had been transferred, and Yao Guang’s account had hit a new high again. However, shortly after the transactions were completed, a large sum was swiftly withdrawn from his account. Nonetheless, the remaining amount was still substantial, enough to accomplish many things.

“Could I also upgrade my Light Brain while I’m at it?”

With a well-filled wallet, Yao Guang spoke confidently over the communication, “Jiusheng City’s black market has everything. Tian Shu, could you check if they have the latest 6th generation IKM computing components?”

“Sure.”

Ji Mingzhu nodded in agreement, then turned to Tian Ji, “What about you, Tian Ji? Do you need anything?”

“I don’t need anything…”

Before Tian Ji could finish his sentence, Yao Guang interjected, “Get him some weapons. Tian Ji’s gun is almost rusty.”

“Indeed, the black market has everything.” Boss Bei, upon hearing Ji Mingzhu’s additional requests, warmly assured, “Rest assured, there’s nothing the black market can’t provide. Weapons and such are definitely in abundance. Even if something isn’t on the market, I can arrange to get it for you.”

“Then I’ll rely on you, Boss Bei.”

Beep Beep Beep.

Yao Guang’s Light Brain flashed with a message. He glanced at it and said over the communication to Ji Mingzhu, “I’ve got to go. Bai Sha contacted me.”

Ji Mingzhu replied, “Alright, I’ll be heading back with Sun Yi shortly. What about Wild Wolf? Is he with you?”

“Tian Ji took Wild Wolf out when he left.”

Yao Guang continued, “Unlike him, I’m just a powerless technician. I wouldn’t dare stay with the Wild Wolves.”

After ending the call with Ji Mingzhu, Yao Guang left the room and descended the stairs.

Bai Sha was standing at the hotel entrance. She hadn’t changed her clothes despite being gone for just a few hours.

Yao Guang greeted her, “Did you meet your friend?”

Bai Sha had mentioned earlier that her friend in Jiusheng City had contacted her before she left and now returned. Could something have been left behind?

“Yao Guang.”

Bai Sha waved to Yao Guang with a forced smile on her face.

Yao Guang hesitated for a moment.

Having spent so long with the Netherworld Organization, Yao Guang’s senses were still sharp. He sensed that something was off about Bai Sha’s expression, and his heart skipped a beat.

“What’s wrong?”

Yao Guang maintained a calm demeanor outwardly, showing no signs of suspicion as he asked, “Did something get left in the room?”

“Yeah, something did.”

Bai Sha stepped closer, trying hard to keep her expression neutral, but the fear in her eyes was undeniable. “I left something in a rush this morning…”

She leaned in closer to Yao Guang, stopping right in front of him, and then spoke in a very low, urgent tone, “We need to get out of here. Now.”

Bai Sha rushed the last two words.

As Bai Sha’s words fell, several figures dressed in black swiftly emerged from the surrounding streets, corners, and passing crowds, moving to encircle Yao Guang!

Yao Guang hardly hesitated. He grabbed Bai Sha’s hand and pulled her back.

His movements were swift, decisive in retreat. Before the black-clad figures could surround them, Yao Guang had already pulled Bai Sha back to the hotel entrance.

“Hey hey hey, the floor is expensive, be careful!!”

The receptionist girl called out with displeasure as Yao Guang rushed in with big strides.

Ignoring her, Yao Guang scanned the lobby quickly. Instead of taking the elevator, he swiftly led Bai Sha towards another set of stairs on the side.

A second later, a group of black-clad individuals streamed into the hotel from the entrance.

“Damn, when will this end!”

The receptionist girl couldn’t hold back any longer. She stood up and slammed her hands on the desk, “I’ve said it, the floor is expensive, can’t you walk more carefully? If you damage it…”

Bang!!

A bullet grazed past the receptionist girl’s cheek, leaving a deep hole in the wall behind her.

The receptionist girl instantly fell silent, her previously irritable expression turning meek and obedient in a split second.

“Where did those two go?”

One of the black-clad men, gripping his gun, asked in a cold voice.

The girl pointed towards the direction of the stairs, “Over there…”

“Second and fourth squads, pay attention.”

The man grabbed his collar, his voice heavy, “The targets are heading for the emergency exit stairs. Seal off the passages, don’t let them escape.”

On the rooftop, Tian Ji stood with a telescope, still observing the research institute in the distance.

“To be honest, I’m curious.”

Wild Wolf sat idly nearby, “What kind of relationship do you guys have with Ji Mingzhu? He seems to trust you a lot.”

Wild Wolf’s hands and feet were not bound, allowing him to move freely, yet he made no attempt to escape. He knew running would be futile. The man in front of him, with vine-like tattoos on his face, not only possessed extraordinary strength but also acted decisively and without hesitation. Wild Wolf had no doubt that if he showed any intention to flee, he would be sent to the afterlife in the blink of an eye.

“You don’t seem like an ordinary person either.”

Tian Ji didn’t respond to his words, and Wild Wolf didn’t seem to mind, continuing on his own, “Mercenary? Or the leader of some organization or faction? Oh right, that white-haired kid in your team, he’s a hacker, right? He seems to know a lot about the black market. Are you guys…”

Bang—

A gunshot rang out.

Wild Wolf startled, thinking his casual banter had angered the man before him. He quickly patted himself down but found no bullet holes, sighing in relief.

“What are you…”

“Bang!”

Tian Ji fired another shot, and amidst the thunderous gunshot, Wild Wolf saw two unmanned drones plummeting, engulfed in flames.

“…What is this?”

Wild Wolf’s expression froze, “Drones? Whose drones?”

Tian Ji’s face darkened as he glanced at the falling drones, then took out a device to contact Yao Guang.

No answer.

“Go back.”

Tian Ji holstered his gun, his voice icy as he addressed Wild Wolf.

Those two drones bore a discreet mark. Others might not recognize it, but Tian Ji was all too familiar with it.

It was equipment of the Netherworld Organization.

The Netherworld Organization had found them.
