After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 138

138. Dawn vs Rainstorm

Inside the simulation machines, the battlefield began to generate. As Ji Mingzhu and Zuo Quanzong entered the cabins, their mechas also appeared on the battlefield.

The battlefield was a rare desert terrain, with endless stretches of sand occupying the entire view. Winds and sandstorms swept across the field, making all the scenes within it hazy and hard to discern. Several massive pyramid structures and the Sphinx stood around, exuding an ancient and distant aura.

The blue [Rainstorm] and the red [Dawn] appeared on opposite ends of the battlefield, facing each other from afar.

Ji Mingzhu sat inside [Dawn], not rushing to activate the mecha but first checking its parameters.

When he saw the exaggerated simulated parameters of the mecha, Ji Mingzhu couldn’t help but be stunned.

No wonder the L-level mechas are ranked higher than S-level mechas. This [Dawn] surpasses S-level mechas in every aspect, from destructive power and firepower systems to close combat power systems. It’s practically half a Titan. Moreover, its parameters are exceptionally balanced, like an impregnable iron barrel with no apparent weaknesses.

If Ji Mingzhu had piloted such an L-level mecha when facing Zhu Rong, he might not have needed the Celestial Orbital Cannon at all. He could have relied solely on the terrifying attributes of the L-level mecha to confront the Titan head-on.

Outside the simulation machine, Miao Feiyan and the group of young people watched the two mechas standing still in the holographic display, their eyes wide and breath held.

Ji Mingzhu finished adjusting all the parameters. Opposite him, Zuo Quanzong hadn’t made the first move, waiting for Ji Mingzhu to complete his adjustments. In terms of familiarity with the L-level mechas, Zuo Quanzong undoubtedly had the upper hand. This was Zuo Quanzong’s advantage, but he didn’t exploit it. He didn’t want to take that easy win; he wanted a fair and exhilarating battle with Ji Mingzhu.

Ji Mingzhu completed the adjustments and gripped the control stick.

To some extent, the L-level mechas inherited the characteristics of Titans. The moment Ji Mingzhu activated [Dawn], he felt a sensation of merging with the mecha. This feeling was very subtle, akin to the “sensory link” of a Titan, as if his entire being transformed into a towering steel giant, seeing what the mecha saw and feeling what the mecha felt. This sensation wasn’t entirely unfamiliar to Ji Mingzhu.

“Red Guard Commander… I’m ready,” Ji Mingzhu took a deep breath, opened the communication channel, and spoke softly.

Zuo Quanzong smiled slightly and responded, “Alright, bring it on.”

The two mechas stood off, and though the battle had not yet begun, the pressure emanating from them was palpable. The young people outside the simulation machine hadn’t yet grasped the gravity of the situation, laughing and discussing how Zuo Quanzong would teach the presumptuous young man a lesson. Meanwhile, Miao Feiyan had already held his breath, watching Ji Mingzhu’s every move on the screen.

The clash between the new king and the old king… who will emerge victorious?

Boom—

In the next instant, Ji Mingzhu made the first move.

Pushing the control stick forward, [Dawn] activated following Ji Mingzhu’s commands. Its fifty-meter-tall frame was almost as tall as the nearby pyramids. It charged towards Zuo Quanzong with earth-shaking steps!

The desert terrain was a severe test of a pilot’s operating skills. The soft sand beneath made it challenging for a massive machine like a mecha to move without restrictions. It was harder to maintain balance compared to flat ground, requiring additional maneuvers to prevent the mecha from sinking into the sand. The violent sandstorms around further increased the operational difficulty for the pilot.

However, this level of difficulty was nothing for Ji Mingzhu and Zuo Quanzong.

With thunderous footsteps, the red [Dawn] sliced through the air like lightning, leaving a trail of red light amidst the swirling sandstorm!

Even a regular charge exhibited speed close to the instant mobility system of the Phoenix Redeemer!

Facing the attack from [Dawn], Zuo Quanzong’s eyes narrowed slightly. The next second, the blue [Rainstorm] performed an incredibly agile sidestep, avoiding a red laser that demolished half of a pyramid behind it!

The floating cannons behind [Dawn] had already activated, resembling four mechanical wings. The cannons aimed at Zuo Quanzong’s position, making it seem like a frontal approach, but it was actually a feint.

Zuo Quanzong wouldn’t be deceived by such a feint. His experience and control over the mecha were top-notch. Without hesitation, he dodged the laser, and the floating cannons behind [Rainstorm] retaliated with a laser beam at Ji Mingzhu.

“Brilliant!”

The young people outside the simulation machine were amazed by Zuo Quanzong’s calm and composed handling, applauding fervently.

As expected of the Red Guard Commander!

In the challenging desert terrain, Ji Mingzhu’s movements were as steady as on flat ground. Zuo Quanzong’s laser attack angles were extremely tricky, rivaling even Li Li’s renowned long-range firepower. Three blue laser beams came from different directions, blocking all escape routes. This extraordinary prediction of the mecha’s trajectory exhilarated Ji Mingzhu instantly.

Ji Mingzhu halted his charge and controlled the mecha to retreat abruptly with an unexpected maneuver, dodging the incoming laser. Another set of floating cannons unfolded, and with a series of booms, a rain of bullets covered Zuo Quanzong’s area.

The blue [Rainstorm] moved away from its original position the moment Ji Mingzhu aimed. In the swirling sandstorm, Zuo Quanzong’s mecha seemed like a blue lightning bolt hidden in the fog, its figure hard to discern. Ji Mingzhu’s floating cannons targeted Zuo Quanzong’s position, and the areas the blue mecha passed through were bombarded, raising clouds of desert dust. Although it was a duel between two mechas, it felt like a clash between two armies!

Variable frequency steps!

Zuo Quanzong’s variable frequency steps were executed with extreme proficiency, more cunning and tricky than any Titan pilot Ji Mingzhu had encountered before. His mecha’s movement trajectory was unpredictable, weaving between straight lines and curves, constantly changing rhythm, making it impossible to predict.

Boom!

With a forceful push, the blue [Rainstorm] stepped onto the nearby pyramid, leveraging its jump. Under the blazing sun, the blue-coated armor reflected a dazzling light, as if frozen in a moment. In the next instant, Zuo Quanzong’s blue [Rainstorm] shot towards Ji Mingzhu like an arrow released from its bow!

Simultaneously, the pyramid behind [Rainstorm] was destroyed by Ji Mingzhu’s [Dawn]’s floating cannons, sending huge rocks flying past the mechas, freezing the scene like a frame from a movie.

The pressure was intense, hitting Ji Mingzhu’s excitement as he licked his lips and his eyes gleamed.

Facing Zuo Quanzong’s attack, Ji Mingzhu didn’t dare to be careless. After all, he was facing the former strongest pilot. His micro-controls, along with some operational traps and feints, were things that a pilot like Zuo Quanzong could easily see through. While Ji Mingzhu’s barrage of floating cannons was like a storm of death to others, Zuo Quanzong handled it with ease.

Ji Mingzhu immediately pushed the control stick, reciprocating with the same variable frequency steps.

The two giant mechas engaged in an ultimate tug-of-war in the desert. Under both pilots’ control, one blue and one red mecha moved like phantom shadows in the dust, constantly weaving between each other. Loud lasers and continuous machine gun fire echoed without pause. If either side dared to stop their rhythm and variable frequency steps, the next second would see them bombed into scrap metal!

Outside the simulation machine, whether it was Miao Feiyan or the group of young people who were originally laughing and joking, their expressions were now uniformly filled with substantial shock.

My goodness!

Can humans really perform such maneuvers?

Both sides hadn’t even engaged in close combat yet; they were merely exchanging laser fire during the probing stage. Just their positioning and movement operations were enough to drop jaws. They could hardly discern how many advanced techniques and micro-controls each side had employed in this brief period. And let’s not forget, this was in desert terrain—where ordinary Titan pilots would struggle to execute their moves on flat ground, let alone in such terrain where the difficulty of all movement actions increased exponentially!

The level of mobility on both sides resembled something out of a sci-fi movie—crossing attacks, mutually probing positions. In this complex space with sandstorms obstructing their view, they were unaffected, leaving onlookers in awe.

Finally, these young people understood why Ji Mingzhu was matched against the Red Guard Commander. If it were them facing such an onslaught, even enduring a single round of laser bombardment would be impossible!

And this was just the appetizer. The long-range firepower from both sides was merely a probing phase; soon, the floating cannons of the L-level mechas on both sides entered ceasefire due to overload. However, at the same time, the distance between them had already closed significantly.

Mecha blade combat is the most thrilling spectacle in mecha battles, and also the most effective means to disrupt each other’s force fields.

In fact, neither Ji Mingzhu nor Zuo Quanzong excelled in long-range firepower. They knew where their strengths lay—in the handling of mecha blade combat. Yet precisely because of this, neither dared to strike first and reveal their weaknesses.

Both were at the pinnacle of mecha blade combat, adept at seizing opportunities and knowing how to use their advantage to trap their opponents in an inescapable situation.

“Why aren’t they attacking?” a young person asked in surprise. “The blade locks are already engaged, why aren’t they drawing their blades?”

Miao Feiyan stood with folded arms, the shock still evident in her eyes. “They’re waiting.”

Waiting?

For what?

Soon, the two in the frame provided the answer.

As the floating cannons went into overload, a brief calm settled over the battlefield.

The entire desert map was now pockmarked, as if it had been bombed from one end to the other. The ground was riddled with craters, and under the intense heat, the pitch-black holes even showed transparent, glass-like crystalline formations. The nearby pyramids were also reduced to rubble, the scene resembling utter devastation.

The two mechas closed in on each other, neither drawing their blades first, though their blade locks were already engaged.

Whoosh—

A fierce gust of wind and sand swept over, obscuring their view with dark yellow dust. Ji Mingzhu and Zuo Quanzong were temporarily blinded, unable to see each other’s movements.

Clang!!

In the moment the sandstorm erupted, both simultaneously drew their mecha blades from their locks. Their movements were so synchronized, as if prearranged, that although it was clearly two blades being drawn, the battlefield only echoed with the hum of one mecha blade unsheathing.

In the next instant, both the blue [Rainstorm] and the red [Dawn] exploded with terrifying speed. By the time those outside the simulation saw through the dust, the red and blue mechas stood face to face.

Both mecha blades drawn, one in a forward grip and the other in a reverse grip, clashed violently in front of them!
