After Winning The Esports Championship I'm Going To Pilot A Mecha

After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 140

140. Jiusheng City’s Sky

The simulation pod slowly opened, and two figures walked out from within.

Miao Feiyan and the group of young onlookers stared intently at them, their emotions in their eyes more nervous than those who had just fought, eagerly awaiting the outcome of the final battle.

Surprisingly, neither Ji Mingzhu nor Zuo Quanzong showed any signs of disappointment, frustration, or loss on their faces. On the contrary, they appeared calm, with a visible excitement and satisfaction, like someone sated after a hearty meal, leaving observers puzzled and unable to discern the outcome from their facial expressions.

Zuo Quanzong stood upright, looking at Ji Mingzhu in front of him. A few expressions resembling relief flashed across his face before he sighed and reached out to pat Ji Mingzhu’s shoulder.

“I’m getting old.”

Ji Mingzhu smiled and replied, “Where? The sharper the knife, the better. Grand Admiral Hong can still fight well.”

Others couldn’t see the details of the battle from earlier, and the force field collision generated by the mutual struggle between the two had also obscured the screen, making it impossible to determine who had won or lost. However, for Zuo Quanzong and Ji Mingzhu themselves, the outcome of their recent battle couldn’t have been clearer.

In the moment when the Miao Dao clashed with the cross spear, Ji Mingzhu swiftly executed a highly difficult maneuver, a high-leg whip kick, and controlled his mecha to twist around, stomping down Zuo Quanzong’s cross spear while simultaneously aiming the saber directly at Dawn’s power core. This move perfectly showcased Ji Mingzhu’s advantages—his reaction speed and operational agility were pushed to the extreme, leaving Zuo Quanzong unable to keep up.

But Zuo Quanzong didn’t back down either. Relying on his profound combat experience, at the last moment, he maneuvered his cross spear upward in a gesture akin to an earth dragon lifting its head, precisely and cunningly thrusting it into Dawn’s power core. Both of them almost simultaneously executed their final maneuvers and killing moves.

However, Ji Mingzhu’s Miao Dao hit its target 0.2 seconds earlier than Zuo Quanzong’s, although to others, it seemed like both mechas exploded almost simultaneously. As drivers, both knew in their hearts that even the smallest margin of victory mattered.

Nevertheless, this outcome didn’t affect the mood of either Ji Mingzhu or Zuo Quanzong.

More important than victory or defeat was the fact that both of them had thoroughly enjoyed this fight, relishing in the exhilaration and satisfaction.

Zuo Quanzong understood that it was Ji Mingzhu’s first time piloting an L-class mecha. In terms of mecha parameters, he was probably hundreds of times more familiar than Ji Mingzhu. Ji Mingzhu’s talent in fully harnessing the power and advantages of an L-class mecha on his first attempt was astounding.

Similarly, Ji Mingzhu was aware that if Zuo Quanzong were ten years younger, unrestricted by the constraints of aging, the outcome of this battle might have been completely different.

Regardless, Ji Mingzhu had won, and Dawn, this L-class mecha, had performed beyond Ji Mingzhu’s expectations even within the simulation pod. How formidable would Dawn be in reality?

“Follow me.”

Zuo Quanzong looked at Ji Mingzhu, feeling deeply moved. He hadn’t forgotten their agreement. Addressing Ji Mingzhu, he turned first and walked towards the nearby genuine L-class mecha.

Before entering this research institute, Ji Mingzhu hadn’t expected to find Zuo Quanzong here. He had made many preparations, but he had never imagined that Zuo Quanzong would generously hand over the L-class mecha to him. After a moment of thought, Ji Mingzhu looked at Zuo Quanzong’s back and decided to follow.

Leaving behind the group of young, naive students, they exchanged puzzled glances.

“Who… who is he exactly?”

One boy hesitated for a moment before finally blurting out.

Looking at someone of similar age but with such piloting skill… remembering Ji Mingzhu’s bold declaration earlier, the young people who had initially thought Ji Mingzhu was overestimating himself now felt somewhat ashamed.

“Former Titan pilot from Shangjing,” Ji Mingzhu.

Miao Feiyan crossed her arms and spoke softly, “He’s capable of piloting an S-class mecha directly facing a rampage. After the Red Guard Commander, he’s seen as having the potential to be recognized as the strongest pilot.”

“That impressive… Miao Ge, have you fought him before?” A surprised girl asked with wide eyes. “Could you defeat him?”

“…”

Miao Feiyan hesitated for a moment, then said quietly, “Among experts, we admire each other’s strengths without comparison.”

The young people suddenly understood, nodding in realization.

Jiusheng City.

Amidst the continuous downpour, the streets were quieter than usual, though some people still walked under umbrellas. A few took shelter under the eaves of buildings, while neon signs above flickered in the dim misty haze.

Several young people paid for drinks and snacks in a shop on the street, then walked home. Despite the world being in turmoil, for most ordinary people, life went on as usual. They chatted about recent popular topics under their umbrellas, occasionally laughing.

“Did you watch that Warfall match yesterday? It was incredible, that 1v3 comeback, so thrilling!”

“Yeah, I saw it. Hey, I heard there’s been a lot more people gathering over in Yangyuan City. Do you know what’s going on there?”

“They all went to support the Netherworld Organization… I had a relative living in Yangyuan City, and after the Netherworld Organization took over, he came with the main group to find us. He stayed at our place for a few days, but he was such a hassle that my mom is now ready to make him find a job and move out.”

“Hahaha, you guys are so unlucky… By the way, why is there no news from Sky City?”

“Who knows? Haven’t you noticed that there’s been a lot less promotion about Sky City lately? My cousin’s elementary school textbooks were just replaced yesterday, and all the content about Sky City being the savior was removed.”

“What? Does the Calamity Control Bureau no longer support Sky City?”

“I’m not sure either…”

The young people continued their conversation as they walked down the street.

They passed by a GG sign not far away. The sign’s promotional song was still playing amidst the rain, a familiar part of life for most residents of Jiusheng City. Whether on their way to work or school, they would hear the familiar melody whenever they passed by. Over time, they had even learned to sing along.

“The hardships of the past have gone away, beautiful songs are being played, Sky City guides us to look towards the future—”

“The hardships of the past have gone away, beautiful songs are being played, Sky City guides us to look towards the future—”

“The hardships… crack!”

Halfway through the GG sign’s melody, a metal baseball bat came whistling through the air, smashing the speaker to pieces.

Not far away, several people dressed in various clothes gathered together, cheering and applauding the person who had smashed the GG sign.

Their clothing ranged from various social strata: some had metal prosthetics and looked like mercenaries, some were dressed like hooligans, and some were even in school uniforms, appearing to be under sixteen.

Support for Sky City among ordinary people had long since waned. In the past, people always looked up to the sky with hope, but now such scenes were rare.

The young people holding drinks and snacks weren’t surprised; they just glanced briefly and didn’t linger. However, one girl stopped, seemingly sensing something, and looked up at the sky.

“What are you doing…”

A laid-back companion was puzzled. “Those are Sky City opponents over there, and you’re still looking up. Be careful, or they might mistake you for an Immortal Clan supporter.”

Then, there seemed to be some commotion above.

Others also stopped, put down what they were doing, and looked up in unison.

The visibility in the rainy, overcast sky was low, with thick clouds blocking the sunlight, but there seemed to be an unusual movement within the clouds. The sound was deep and distant. Moments later, a corner of a metal island emerged from the clouds.

A massive, inverted cone-shaped island broke through the clouds, gradually revealing itself from the sky. Its size was so immense that people on the ground couldn’t estimate its height. The metal island, reflecting a cold light, mirrored the blurry neon reflections of the city. As it pierced through the clouds, it even stopped the continuous rain; wherever it passed, the rain ceased until the island slowly moved away, and the raindrops resumed falling to the ground.

Sky City, like a silent god floating in the sky, moved slowly and steadily, finally hovering above Jiusheng City.

From any corner of the satellite city, anyone looking up could see the steel city suspended overhead.

Whether it was the young people holding snacks or the group vandalizing the GG sign, everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up at Sky City. Their expressions showed bewilderment, fear, confusion, and hatred.

“Look, someone is coming down from above!!”

Suddenly, someone in the crowd shouted, and everyone snapped out of their daze, quickly looking in the direction pointed out.

Up high, everything looked tiny to the people on the ground. Initially, no one noticed, as a few individuals were insignificant compared to the enormous Sky City. But as the figures gradually descended, more people began to notice them.

They were Immortals.

Several Immortals descended from Sky City, standing on a silver wingboard. It was unclear what kind of technology this was, as such technology didn’t exist in the satellite city below. Standing on what looked like a skateboard, they could traverse the sky and ground effortlessly, blocking the wind generated by flight and standing steadily on it. Even the falling rain left no trace on them, as if a transparent energy shield protected the people on the wingboard. This kind of technology was unheard of.

“I think I know that person?”

A young girl looked at one of the Immortals on the wingboard, appearing thoughtful.

That’s right, it was Jin Qing. She had seen him on satellite TV before; he was formerly the head of the Thunder Division in Shangjing, wasn’t he?

“They’re heading towards the Calamity Control Bureau!”

People noticed the direction the Immortals were heading. Jin Qing and the three other Immortals were gliding towards the headquarters of the Calamity Control Bureau in Jiusheng City.

The young people holding snacks and drinks, ready to go home and continue watching the match, looked at each other.

“What’s Sky City doing in Jiusheng City?”

“Sky City is finally making a move… does this mean they’re going to clash with the Netherworld Organization?”

“Should we… still go back and watch the match?”

“What’s there to watch?”

One of the boys looked excited. “Come on, let’s go check out the Calamity Control Bureau building!”
