After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 141

141. “Don’t worry, you’ll die even sooner.”

Inside the Calamity Control Bureau building, everyone who received the news immediately stood up.

Half a minute later, the automatic doors at the entrance sensed someone approaching and slid open. Several figures walked in from outside.

They looked almost identical to humans, each with tall, slender bodies and handsome features, resembling models. There were both men and women, each with different appearances, but their expressions were identical: cold and emotionless, like they were carved from the same mold.

Immortal Clan…

Seeing them appear, everyone in the hall of the Calamity Control Bureau held their breath.

Although the Calamity Control Bureau is a department directly under Sky City, in reality, most people had never seen the Immortal Clan. Only a few senior members had the chance to see them years ago. For most, the Immortal Clan was more like a mythical race.

In the center of the hall, a young woman responsible for receiving all visitors was curiously observing the Immortal Clan who had just entered. She saw a man and a woman leading the group, glancing around the hall before heading straight towards her.

“Where is Shen Yi?”

The speaking woman from the Immortal Clan had a youthful and stunning appearance. Her hair and pupils were nearly transparent white, distinguishing her from other humans. Her voice was melodious but devoid of emotion, coldly as if talking to a stone.

The receptionist’s body stiffened. Under the woman’s gaze, she felt as if she was being scanned from head to toe by an X-ray.

The white-haired woman frowned and was about to ask again when the man beside her spoke.

“Chun Bai, you’re scaring her.”

The speaker was Jin Qing, whom the receptionist recognized. After Jin Qing said this to the woman called Chun Bai, he turned his gaze to the receptionist. Although his face also lacked much expression, his tone and manner were noticeably gentler.

“We are here to see Minister Shen Yi. Where is he?”

“You… oh no, please wait a moment.”

The receptionist snapped out of her daze and quickly made a call to Minister Shen.

The hall of the Calamity Control Bureau was usually bustling with people from various divisions intermingling at this time. But now, the hall was silent, with everyone’s eyes fixed on the Immortal Clan members at the front desk, their expressions complex.

Are they really artificial intelligence?

From their appearance, they looked almost identical to humans, and their movements were fluid. The aura they emitted was distinctly different from ordinary people. In the past, this might have been considered the unique “divinity” of the Immortal Clan, but since the Netherworld Organization had revealed to the world that the Immortal Clan were artificial intelligence, this distinctness had become a source of discomfort.

Moments later, a man hurried over.

“Esteemed Immortal Clan…”

Shen Yi was surprised to see Jin Qing and Chun Bai leading the group and quickly approached.

He was the Minister of the Jupiter Division in Jiusheng City’s Calamity Control Bureau. In the bureau, the Jupiter Division directly connected with Sky City. Though it was on par with the Thunder and Fire Divisions in terms of rank, the Jupiter Division undoubtedly had the highest authority and status. However, in front of the Immortal Clan, even the minister of the Jupiter Division had to adopt a respectful stance.

What puzzled Shen Yi was that Sky City’s movements usually notified the Jupiter Divisions of various satellite cities. Under normal circumstances, Sky City should be near Shangjing, not Jiusheng City. Moreover, there had been no prior information, and as the minister of the Jupiter Division, he found out about the Immortal Clan’s arrival later than others.

And the Immortal Clan had come personally… Could something major have happened? Or…

As Shen Yi’s mind raced with questions, Chun Bai spoke.

“Help me find someone.”

Shen Yi was taken aback. “Who?”

Chun Bai replied coldly, “Former Titan pilot from Shangjing, Ji Mingzhu.”

A fleeting, almost imperceptible change crossed Shen Yi’s eyes. “Him? I wonder why Sky City is looking for him…”

“You don’t need to worry about that.”

Chun Bai seemed a bit impatient. “This is the High Priest’s directive. You only need to find his whereabouts and report back to us once you do.”

Hearing the name of the High Priest, Shen Yi was startled and dared not ask further. He could only nod in agreement.

After the Immortal Clan left, Shen Yi watched Chun Bai and Jin Qing’s retreating figures, his expression uncertain as he pondered over the situation.

He turned and went back to his office, opening the communication channel. The voice of Yao Xiangrong came through.

“…Sky City is also searching for Ji Mingzhu?”

Yao Xiangrong was equally surprised by this news. “What else did they say?”

“Nothing more. The Immortal Clan only instructed us to find Ji Mingzhu and report to Sky City,” Shen Yi replied.

“They didn’t ask about the Netherworld Organization?”

“No.”

Yao Xiangrong was at a loss whether to be angry or incredulous.

Despite the Netherworld Organization having declared war on Sky City, possessing several Titans, and having subverted or allied with most of the Calamity Control Bureaus in various satellite cities, Sky City seemed completely indifferent. They had even come to Jiusheng City without inquiring about the Netherworld Organization at all.

Jiusheng City’s Calamity Control Bureau had been nearly infiltrated by the Netherworld Organization. Given Sky City’s capabilities, it was impossible for them not to notice any signs of this. Yet, they had still contacted Shen Yi and issued the directive. Was it that the Immortal Clan was either too foolish or overly arrogant, completely disregarding the threat of the Netherworld Organization?

To make such a grand show by descending upon Jiusheng City just to find one person…

Could it be that Sky City already knew Ji Mingzhu’s true identity? If so, that would be the only explanation. Otherwise, there would be no need for Sky City to go through such trouble to find a clone.

Yao Xiangrong’s gaze flickered. “We need to find Ji Mingzhu before they do.”

Shen Yi replied, “I’ve already dispatched people to search, but there’s still no news.”

Hong Pingyun had previously piloted an S-class mecha to find Ji Mingzhu but failed to capture him. Ji Mingzhu’s elusiveness exceeded expectations, causing Yao Xiangrong to grow anxious.

If Sky City already knew Ji Mingzhu’s true identity and found him before they did… the consequences for the Netherworld Organization, and even for humanity as a whole, would be unacceptable.

The red-painted “Dawn” stood quietly before them. Even though Ji Mingzhu had piloted Dawn in a simulator before, seeing the real L-class mecha in front of him still made him feel a surge of excitement.

“Red Guard Commander…”

Ji Mingzhu steadied himself and confirmed, “You really want to give me Dawn?”

“Not at all. You have to return it.”

Zuo Quanzong chuckled. “Do you know how exorbitant the cost of an L-class mecha is? Don’t damage it, or you might end up working for me to repay the debt for the rest of your life.”

Ji Mingzhu thought for a moment and replied, “I can’t guarantee it won’t get damaged, but I’ll do my best.”

Zuo Quanzong smiled and didn’t continue the banter. After a brief silence, he said, “Do you know why I named it Dawn?”

Ji Mingzhu shook his head.

“Dawn of the East, clouds steaming and the sky bathed in rosy hues…”

Zuo Quanzong explained, “Dawn is when the sky begins to lighten, symbolizing enlightenment or victory. Mingzhu… regardless of how you use it, I believe you have the ability to make this mecha truly become the first light of dawn.”

There was a deeper meaning behind these words. Ji Mingzhu wanted to shake his head but hesitated under Zuo Quanzong’s gaze and eventually said, “I… will try my best.”

Zuo Quanzong changed the topic. “I’ve had your identity verification information entered into the mecha’s operating system. It should take a few more hours. During this time, my research facility is secure, and the Calamity Control Bureau of Jiusheng City won’t be able to find it…”

Before the words were out, Left Spring Zong’s communication device rang. He glanced at it, and his expression changed slightly.

Ji Mingzhu: “What’s wrong, Red Guard Commander?”

“Sky City has arrived in Jiusheng City.”

Left Spring Zong’s expression grew serious: “Sky City’s trajectory is not as expected… It should be near Shangjing City at this time. I don’t know what their purpose is… I’ll send someone to investigate.”

Having said that, he didn’t wait for a response from Ji Mingzhu and left in haste.

Ji Mingzhu was also surprised by this news.

Sky City arriving in Jiusheng City at this time was indeed unusual… Is there something special about Jiusheng City that makes both the Netherworld Organization and Sky City pay so much attention?

Ji Mingzhu thought about this and took out his communication device to call Yao Guang.

He wasn’t sure if Yao Guang and the others had arrived yet.

Ji Mingzhu had been having Axiu track Yao Guang’s location. The positioning showed that Yao Guang and the others had been moving around the underground passages near the research institute. He had been so engrossed in his conversation with Left Spring Zong that he had temporarily forgotten about this matter.

However, after dialing, there was no response from the other end for a long time.

Ji Mingzhu’s heart sank slightly.

After a moment, Ji Mingzhu received a message from Yao Guang.

It was sent from Yao Guang’s communication device, but the tone was completely different from Yao Guang’s usual manner.

The message contained an address right next to the research institute.

Ji Mingzhu’s gaze sharpened: “Axiu.”

“Already tracking the source of the information.”

Axiu said: “Yao Guang and Tian Ji’s vital signs are stable; they shouldn’t be in any life-threatening danger. The address in the message is an underground building next to the research institute. I’ve checked the surrounding signals and found no high-risk weapons similar to mechas.”

“Understood.”

Ji Mingzhu left a message for the Red Guard Commander, then said: “Axiu, start the mecha.”

“Received.”

The Void Rift, parked in the research institute’s plaza, suddenly lit up without any human control. The power core activated, and in an instant, it left its original position.

Under Axiu’s control, through the remote signal system, the Void Rift quickly arrived in front of Ji Mingzhu and automatically lowered its steel cables. Ji Mingzhu grabbed the cables, pulled himself up, and the next second, he was seated in the cockpit.

As soon as he sat in the cockpit, a communication signal rang out—it was from Yao Guang’s communication device.

When Ji Mingzhu answered, the voice of Wild Wolf came through.

“Ji Mingzhu…”

Wild Wolf’s voice was accompanied by a strange laugh: “Have you arrived? I’ve been waiting for you here for quite a while. Your friends are still in my hands. If you’re any later, I can’t guarantee they’ll still be alive…”

“Don’t worry, you’ll die sooner.”

Ji Mingzhu replied calmly.
