After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 142
142. Meeting
Chun Bai and Jin Qing stepped out of the Calamity Control Bureau’s building, and they were immediately met with a sea of noise.
At some point, countless people had gathered in front of the Calamity Control Bureau’s headquarters, creating a dense, overwhelming crowd that packed the surrounding area tightly.
The rain showed no sign of letting up, but the shouts and protests of the crowd completely drowned out the sound of the rain.
“Immortal Clan, get out of Jiusheng City!!”
“Artificial intelligence, get out!!”
“We don’t need the rule of artificial intelligence! We won’t be the lapdogs of Sky City!”
“We don’t want lies! Immortal Clan, get out of Jiusheng City!”
People, who had gathered from who-knows-where, occupied the square in front of the Calamity Control Bureau’s headquarters. They held up banners and loudly protested against Chun Bai, Jin Qing, and the other Immortal Clan members who had descended from Sky City.
Many reporters had their cameras pointed at Chun Bai and the others, documenting the situation at the scene.
This was a situation not seen for centuries. Before this, Sky City’s rule had been extremely stable, regarded by the people as a savior-like existence. Every time Sky City slowly floated over a satellite city, people looked up at the floating metal island with hope and longing. Sky City was adorned with countless beautiful descriptions, symbolizing a paradise-like land. The Immortal Clan members living in Sky City were seen as angelic beings, guiding lost souls towards a bright future.
Now that the lies had been exposed, the backlash was much more intense than most had imagined. Among the gathered people, some were guided by certain groups and organizations, while others were protesting spontaneously. They waved their slogans and launched protests against the long-revered Immortal Clan.
Faced with this unprecedented scene, the Immortal Clan members in front of the building looked at each other, then turned their gaze towards Chun Bai and Jin Qing.
Chun Bai’s expression was indifferent, but her eyes held a hint of coldness.
She dismissed these people as one might ignore a group of ants screaming at their feet. However, these ants were attacking Sky City and the High Priest with fervent words, something she could not tolerate.
The next moment, Shen Yi appeared with personnel from the Fire Division to maintain order, and the actions of the Calamity Control Bureau’s staff in assisting the Immortal Clan also provoked the ire of the protesters.
“F*ck off, Sky City’s lapdogs!”
“Are you even human? Why are you helping these Immortal Clan members?”
“Traitors! Lackeys!”
The Fire Division guards were heavily criticized, their situation was equally awkward. Although it was their duty, they were caught between their fellow humans and the Immortal Clan members from Sky City. As members of the Calamity Control Bureau, they had to assist the latter, putting them in a highly conflicted position.
Shen Yi’s gaze flickered. He stepped forward and said to Chun Bai and the others, “Your Excellency, the situation is getting chaotic. It might be best for you to leave soon, to avoid…”
His suggestion was reasonable, but it angered Chun Bai.
“What do you mean?”
Chun Bai narrowed her eyes, looking at Shen Yi’s face. “Are you suggesting we bow to these ants?”
They represented Sky City. If they left in defeat under the pressure of these protesters, what dignity would Sky City have left?
“That’s not what I meant.”
Shen Yi replied calmly, “I’m just concerned for your safety.”
“Chun Bai, don’t provoke trouble.”
Chun Bai sneered, about to speak, but was interrupted by Jin Qing.
Jin Qing’s expression was flat, his emotions unchanged. His temperament was far steadier than Chun Bai’s, and he wasn’t about to lose his composure over such a matter. “Don’t forget why we’re here. Don’t cause unnecessary trouble.”
Chun Bai calmed down. She glanced back at the crowded protesters in the square, a trace of coldness in her eyes.
It was as if the dog that had been raised for ten years turned on its owner over a piece of meat. Did these humans ever think about whether they would have what they have now without Sky City?
Safe satellite cities, convenient technology, peaceful lives, mechas, and Titans… Did they think these things belonged to them by right?
A bunch of insatiable monsters daring to call themselves human…
Gunshots rang out, and Chun Bai’s head and body were punctured with several bullet holes.
Yet, Chun Bai did not fall. She lifted her eyelids to look at the shooters, and the bullet holes on her body began to heal slowly, as if her body were made of some liquid memory alloy, quickly restoring to its original state. Chun Bai then raised her hand again, and with a “puff” sound, the protesters who had fired at her were reduced to a mist of fragments.
Shen Yi’s brow twitched, his disbelief palpable.
Was this the power of the Immortal Clan? What kind of ability was this? No, it must be some kind of special technology, but this kind of technology had never been heard of before…
The crowd was filled with terror. This was the first time people had seen the Immortal Clan demonstrate their power, and this supernatural method of killing instilled extreme fear. The previously fervent protesters scattered in panic, while the reporters’ cameras captured every moment.
The Void Rift silently moved through the city, and soon, Ji Mingzhu arrived at the location mentioned by Wild Wolf.
Axiu immediately scanned the building in front of them, finding no special weapons or traces of mechas.
Ji Mingzhu furrowed his brow upon hearing Axiu’s scan report.
Wild Wolf couldn’t be unaware of his driving skills. If there were mechas lying in ambush, it would be understandable, but there was nothing here that could threaten him… So why did Wild Wolf have the courage to bring him here?
Something was off.
“You finally arrived.”
As Ji Mingzhu pondered, Wild Wolf’s voice came from not far away.
Wild Wolf appeared around the corner and said, “I’ve been waiting for you for quite a while.”
“Where are Yao Guang and the others?”
“Don’t worry, they’re fine.”
Wild Wolf shrugged. “I have no intentions regarding them, and I have no grudge against them. I just wanted you to come here.”
Ji Mingzhu frowned. “Who exactly are you? The leader of the Wild Wolf Bandits? No, your identity must be more complicated than that.”
“The identity of the Wild Wolf Bandits is indeed real, and there’s still a warrant for my arrest from the Calamity Control Bureau,” Wild Wolf said. “However, I also have another identity. I serve someone, and bringing you to this place was also at someone’s behest.”
“So…”
Ji Mingzhu recalled everything that had happened from their first encounter with Wild Wolf up to now. “In the wilderness, were you intentionally getting close to us?”
“Yes.”
Wild Wolf admitted readily. “I had my sights on you from the moment you left Yangyuan City. Although my intentions weren’t entirely straightforward, the information I provided was accurate, including the L-class mecha in the research institute. You can see for yourself that I mean you no harm.”
“No harm, yet you’ve taken Yao Guang and Tian Ji hostage?”
Ji Mingzhu sneered. “Your concept of ‘no harm’ is quite refreshing.”
“There’s no helping it; I just wanted to create an opportunity for a private conversation.”
Wild Wolf said, “With your cautious nature, you wouldn’t have come to this place without this step being taken. Also, I didn’t want Yao Guang and Tian Ji to be part of this conversation, so… apologies for that.”
“I’m here now.”
Ji Mingzhu suppressed his curiosity and said, “You’ve got the private conversation you wanted. If you have something to say, just say it directly.”
“No, not yet.”
Wild Wolf shook his head. “It’s not yet a private conversation. There’s still one person who needs to be dealt with.”
Ji Mingzhu was momentarily stunned.
The next second, he saw Wild Wolf pull out a device from his pocket and press a button.
A special signal wave spread out, causing Ji Mingzhu’s Void Rift to instantly power down, the core ceasing operation, and the cockpit losing all control at the same moment.
That wasn’t the main issue—the main issue was… Ji Mingzhu could no longer sense Axiu’s presence.
“Axiu?”
Ji Mingzhu tried calling out in his mind, but received no response.
Wild Wolf mentioned that there was still one person who needed to be dealt with… Could he be referring to Axiu?
No, how could they know about Axiu’s existence…
Ji Mingzhu felt that the situation was slipping out of his control. Losing contact with Axiu so suddenly was unprecedented, filling him with an inexplicable sense of panic.
“It’s done now.”
Wild Wolf nodded. “Setting up a signal-jamming device for electronic information isn’t easy. We finished setting it up here a month ago. Your AI friend should no longer be able to hear our conversation.”
Ji Mingzhu took a deep breath. “What exactly are you trying to achieve?”
“Mingzhu.”
Before Ji Mingzhu could respond, a figure emerged from the side of Wild Wolf.
“It was I who arranged all of this.”
The figure stepped out of the shadows. “Let’s talk.”
As the figure emerged from the shadows, Ji Mingzhu saw his face.
He looked exactly like Ji Mingzhu—height, voice, and appearance were all identical, even more so than twins.
Ji Mingzhu felt as if he was looking into a mirror.
Staring at the “Ji Mingzhu” in front of him, he was momentarily stunned, then remembered someone and asked tentatively.
“…Tian Shu?”
