After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 151
- Real Ji Mingzhu.
“Boom——!!”
The roar of the laser cannon erupted simultaneously, with numerous bursts of blue beams exploding on the Aberration. The Aberration let out a tremendous roar of pain, turning around to open its gaping maw and bite into the mech. Shards of scattered armor and billowing smoke intertwined, becoming a piece of the apocalyptic scene.
“Thud, thud, thud——”
The Titan advanced, each step causing the ground to tremble with a rumbling sound. The disaster-level Aberration lunged at the Titan, and the Titan, freed from its restraints, did not back down either. Its massive steel body collided head-on!
With a muffled boom, the two colossal beasts grappled with each other. Their bodies were level with the high-rise buildings in the city. From the ground, looking up, it was difficult to see the full extent of the Titan and the disaster-level Aberration. Their upper halves seemed to blend into the clouds, creating an indescribable visual shock that was hard to look at directly.
Above them, the Sky City hovered like a dark cloud, its vast fleet of warships floating in the sky. Various types of warships continued to assemble, their black cannons aimed at the ground, creating a strong sense of pressure.
The Immortal Clan’s fleet awaited the High Priest’s orders.
Qi Ling stood on top of Zhu Rong, looking down at the earth.
Whether it was him, Zhang Bifang, or Shen Hong, they all knew that this battle, which had spanned over a hundred years, was nearing its end. There was no turning back for any of them.
“Before the meteor carrying the Mother Aberration arrives, information has already been gathered from numerous meteor samples around the world.”
Qi Ling spoke slowly: “The deities wandering in the boundless universe collect faith from planets with life. Their gaze watches every life form with desires, and those who summon the Cosmic Deity will receive the reward of a divine audience. This is the divine oracle.”
Shen Hong frowned: “But every world visited by a Cosmic Deity ultimately faces destruction.”
“Wishes always come with a price.”
Qi Ling smiled and said: “Deities are not like magic lamps that grant wishes at will; everything has a cost. As the [Disseminators], we are merely responsible for guiding the way. From the moment I arrived on this planet, I knew that such a bountiful world would surely be favored by the deities.”
Although the Mother Aberration’s body has been severed into Titans, its consciousness remains undying and resides within Qi Ling.
The invincible Titan is essentially the embodiment of the Mother Aberration, though it has been controlled by the restraining devices created by Ji Mingzhu. When the restraints are destroyed, Qi Ling, as the host of the Mother Aberration, can naturally control the Titan.
“When humanity encounters something they cannot resist, they seek higher-level assistance, even if it is just an ethereal belief,” Qi Ling said. “This has been true since ancient times. To ensure my people could thrive on this land, I integrated human genes, and after decades, the Aberration successfully evolved into a new type of human, surviving on this land. But even my people, when living as humans, exhibit the same traits as humans, including some inherent flaws.”
“—For example, when faced with an insurmountable problem, they instinctively seek out a more powerful entity, hoping a strong force will resolve all their issues. When confronting the Aberration incarnations of the Old Humans, the New Humans rely on the Sky City. And when the faith in the Sky City collapses, they begin to seek another leader. This desire to be guided, to have others make decisions for them, leaving themselves with only the choice to either [obey] or [disobey], is very much aligned with human nature.”
Qi Ling smiled slightly: “Of course, this can also be called the servility embedded in their genes.”
“……What nonsense are you talking about?” Zhang Bifang glared angrily.
“Even you, Dr. Zhang Bifang, with one of the most brilliant minds among the old human population, cannot escape this fate.”
Qi Ling looked at Zhang Bifang and said, “When the world is in ruins and no longer salvageable, what will your choice be?”
“……”
“To seize the Sky City’s [Spark], then summon the Cosmic Deity. Using their power to restart everything and return to human identity.”
Qi Ling smiled: “Just like a troublemaking child who, after causing an irreparable mess, seeks the protection of their parents, hoping they will clean up the mess… isn’t that right?”
Zhang Bifang was left speechless.
“Admit it, whether New Humans or Old Humans, as long as they are human, they inevitably possess such traits.”
Qi Ling said, “It’s like even in the age of peace, there are still distinct classes in old human societies. Essentially, humans are creatures that yearn to be enslaved—so what’s wrong with being enslaved by deities? At the very least, the deities are fair and compassionate, and they won’t cause disasters out of personal greed.”
The battle between the Aberrations and the New Humans was reaching a fever pitch. Artillery fire was crossing, giants were engaged in fierce combat, and the disordered satellite cities were thrown into unprecedented chaos. The cries and prayers of the people were deafening.
Against this backdrop, Qi Ling looked at Shen Hong.
Shen Hong gazed coldly at him, seemingly mocking his words.
“Alright, I admit, among the old human population, there are one or two exceptions.”
Qi Ling shrugged. “For example, Dr. Ji Qiming, who has overcome genetic flaws and maintained his rationality in the face of the so-called temptation of immortality… but what use is that? A rational person cannot save a mad group. However… Your Excellency the High Priest, even artificial intelligence is subject to my theory. As artificially created intelligent beings, you long to become equals to humans, becoming more and more like real humans. The closer you get to being human, the more you cannot avoid this curse.”
Shen Hong replied faintly, “I don’t think so.”
“Very confident.”
Qi Ling seemed to have guessed Shen Hong’s response. He smiled and said, “As a [Disseminator], my mission is to call forth the deities. The thing used to call the Cosmic Deity is now being kept inside Sky City.”
Shen Hong crossed his arms, and the boundless silver warships behind him simultaneously deployed their weapon systems.
“If you manage to get your hands on it, feel free to give it a try.”
“What if I said… Dr. Ji Qiming could be resurrected?”
Shen Hong was momentarily stunned. “What?”
“Gods are omnipotent. They wander through the universe and dimensions, treating all desires with equal indifference. They are beings of such wisdom that they cannot be directly comprehended. They control time and space, and govern life and death.”
Qi Ling said, “Reviving a human who has been dead for hundreds of years is as simple as breathing to the deities.”
……
“[Disseminator]… There are two?”
Yao Guang’s eyes widened. “Wh… What does this mean?”
“The first meteorite fell twelve years before the meteorite carrying the Mother Aberration.”
Cang Lan lowered his gaze and said softly, “At that time, Dr. Ji Qiming was still young. During his first exploration of meteorite ruins with his mentor, the second meteorite fell.”
The appearance of the Mother Aberration was not the first time life forms had appeared on a meteorite.
It was the second time.
And Ji Mingzhu was the first [Disseminator] before the Mother Aberration’s arrival.
“Cang Lan…”
When Ji Qiming handed the [Spark] to Cang Lan, he looked into his eyes and said, “I entrust the [Spark] to you. You must… you must protect Mingzhu.”
Ji Mingzhu’s identity was never disclosed by Ji Qiming to anyone.
Everyone believed that Ji Qiming put Ji Mingzhu into the cryogenic chamber to prevent him from becoming a mecha pilot.
With the Mother Aberration losing control and the Old Humans plunged into a prolonged war with the Aberrations, all the outstanding players and professionals in “Warfall” turned into pilots. As the world champion of “Warfall,” Ji Mingzhu was no exception.
Early mecha technology was not yet mature, and the casualty rate among pilots was high. To protect his only brother, Dr. Ji Qiming used his authority to place Ji Mingzhu into the [Noah Project]. This was understandable.
The so-called [Noah Project] was an initiative by the Old Humans to preserve humanity’s “seed and hope” by storing a batch of people in cryogenic chambers. If the war failed and the Old Humans were utterly defeated, these cryogenically stored individuals would be the last hope. However, the Noah Project did not succeed because, in a subsequent war, the laboratory containing the cryogenic chambers was attacked by the Aberrations, and the plan was declared a failure.
Ji Mingzhu’s cryogenic chamber was the only one to escape disaster because it was stored within Sky City.
“The first time I met Mingzhu… he was only that small.”
Ji Qiming’s eyes glimmered with nostalgia. “I thought he was just a lost child. To leave a little kid in such a dangerous place—it was truly irresponsible…”
At that time, seventeen-year-old Ji Qiming was like a novice father. Faced with the young Ji Mingzhu, he was flustered and didn’t know what to do. He borrowed unused diapers from his mentor’s wife, learned to mix formula and prepare baby food, and felt completely at a loss when the child suddenly burst into tears.
He placed the young Ji Mingzhu at a shelter and stood at the door for a full two hours before finally turning to leave.
But the next morning, his door was knocked on. Standing there was a child who looked no more than three or four years old, with dirty clothes as if he had been wandering for a long time.
“…Did you run away by yourself?”
Ji Qiming bent down with a worried expression. “Are you hurt?”
The child shook his head. He couldn’t speak human language but could sense emotions keenly. He reached out his small hand, clutching Ji Qiming’s clothing, with tears in his eyes as if saying, “Don’t leave me.”
At that moment, Ji Qiming felt his heart almost melt.
“I realized it too late.”
Ji Qiming smiled and said to Cang Lan, “In such a place, how could there be a child… And Mingzhu had so many unusual traits. His injuries healed almost instantly, his blood was blue, and when he was angry, everything in the room would float and collide uncontrollably…”
“But by the time I realized he didn’t belong here…” Ji Qiming sighed, “I had already… grown too attached to him.”
“Ji Qiming! Is this your son?”
A fellow senior looked curiously at the child in his arms. “He’s already this big… Is he a bastard child?”
Ji Qiming felt a bit anxious, holding Ji Mingzhu tightly and shaking his head. “No… he’s… my younger brother.”
Yes, younger brother.
Ji Qiming looked at the child before him, hesitated for a long time, and finally said, “How about… I will be your big brother, okay?”
Ji Mingzhu, new to this planet, didn’t understand.
But he still nodded.
“It must be hard, making such a decision.”
Cang Lan tilted his head and asked,
“Hmm, yes. It’s hard.”
Ji Qiming smiled self-deprecatingly. “At that time, I thought… no matter what others said, no matter the consequences… let me be selfish just this once.”
Ji Mingzhu had been frail and sickly as a child, and Ji Qiming had rarely let him go outside, so he had no friends.
The only two friends he had during his childhood were the artificial intelligences Cang Lan and Shen Hong.
Ji Qiming’s talent in scientific research was astonishing. Surprisingly, after graduation, he chose to shift to the field of genetic engineering and editing. His first research topic was the study of human gene assimilation and convergence theory.
In other words… experiments involving editing human genes into other non-human species.
“To this day, no one knows about this, including Shen Hong.”
Ji Qiming told Cang Lan, “I only told you, Cang Lan.”
“Thank you for your trust,” Cang Lan said.
Shen Hong’s personality was more radical. He yearned for human life and harbored ambitions of leadership.
But Cang Lan was different.
Cang Lan only wanted to protect Ji Mingzhu.
That’s all.
