After Winning The Esports Championship I’m Going To Pilot A Mecha: Chapter 163

163. “Perhaps it’s because I’m Ji Qiming’s younger brother.”

The massive Titans entered Sky City, and the home that symbolized a beautiful vision was wantonly destroyed by the Titans. Countless Immortals watched the scene, their expressions slightly moved.

Above them, numerous warships belonging to Sky City raised their cannons, aimed at the twelve uninvited guests. With a single command from Shen Hong, a few rounds of concentrated fire could bury the Titans along with Sky City.

But Shen Hong remained silent.

He gazed at the fallen Sky City, lowering his eyes to hide the sorrow within them.

Sky City was not only humanity’s last Noah’s Ark but also the final haven for the intelligent machines. The intelligent machines that were not accepted by humanity could only remain in a corner, neither participating in nor joining the conflicts. The destruction of Sky City now meant that even this last refuge for the intelligent machines was disappearing.

If Ji Qiming were still alive, would he blame Shen Hong? Would he regret creating the intelligent machines? After all, the intelligent machines were created to protect humanity, but in the end, they became the main culprits behind the destruction of Sky City.

Shen Hong didn’t know the answer. At the moment he saw Sky City fall, it felt as if something within him was collapsing as well.

Shen Hong murmured, “Sky City was never intended for intelligent machines.”

Cang Lan shook his head, looking deeply at Shen Hong before saying, “When Sky City was created, Dr. Ji Qiming submitted a proposal for artificial intelligence legislation.”

Shen Hong was taken aback.

“He had always been trying. Although he didn’t live to see the outcome, Dr. Ji Qiming never viewed artificial intelligence as another adversarial group separate from humanity.”

Cang Lan said, “In times of dire disaster, no life clinging to a piece of driftwood for survival should be blamed, even if the driftwood is a priceless treasure. Dr. Ji Qiming always believed this.”

Even if Dr. Ji Qiming knew about Shen Hong’s actions, he would probably just sigh and say something like, “Sorry, Shen Hong, I failed to keep my promise.”

After all, that’s the kind of person he has always been.

Shen Hong did indeed do many wrong things, but the root of it all wasn’t in him. Just like the life that clung to a floating log in a crisis, everything Shen Hong did was solely to ensure that the mechanical intelligence could survive in this world and live with dignity.

Shen Hong gave a self-deprecating smile. “Is that so?”

“You actually miss him too, don’t you?”

Perhaps Shen Hong himself didn’t realize that his nostalgia, regret, yearning, admiration, and even the resentment after Dr. Ji Qiming’s death could all be summed up by another word.

In this respect, Shen Hong and Cang Lan were not so different after all.

Shen Hong was momentarily stunned. He looked at the distant Sky City and the city devastated by the disaster in front of him, thought of Ji Qiming, reminisced about many past events, and then about his anger towards Zhang Bifang and all the Old Humans. After a long while, he sighed.

“Yes, I miss him.”

“Boom, boom, boom—”

As the Titans continued to advance into Sky City, the steel island began to emit a deep rumbling sound for some unknown reason, as if something was about to awaken from beneath the ground. An ancient aura began to spread, and all this was particularly clear to Ji Mingzhu, who was inside the Titan and sensing the surroundings through resonance.

“It’s getting closer…”

Ji Mingzhu’s heart began to pound under its influence. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his body.

“The core of the Mother Aberration’s emitter is agitated.”

The voice of the Resonance Spirit came through the cockpit, tinged with a hint of unease. “It seems the appearance of the Titans is affecting it as well. Sky City’s suppression of the Mother Aberration’s core is becoming weaker and weaker…”

The Mother Aberration’s core had been expanding and spreading at an unimaginable rate since it first arrived on this planet. Its biological signal strength had been growing exponentially over time. After so many years, the extent of the Mother Aberration’s core expansion was unknown. It was like a long-accumulated time bomb; once detonated, the spreading biological signals would be enough to span countless star systems and attract cosmic deities.

Titans were inherently part of the Mother Aberration. When they appeared together, the fluctuations in the force fields began to awaken the core of the Mother, a dormant time bomb that seemed to be on the verge of explosion.

“Can you expose the core?”

Ji Mingzhu asked, “I don’t have time to search slowly.”

In addition to the impact of the core, the pursuit of eleven Titans from behind was also overwhelming Ji Mingzhu. He had to deal with the encirclement of eleven Titans while resisting the effects of the core’s fluctuations, which was increasingly taxing.

Just as Yao Guang was about to say it couldn’t be done, his light brain received a signal from Cang Lan.

“…I received the Sky City key from Cang Lan.”

Yao Guang hesitated for a moment and then said, “It’s possible, but it’s too dangerous. You might even fail to escape the core’s expansion range. Are you sure you want to do this…”

Boom!!

Ji Mingzhu maneuvered Zhu Jiuyin to dodge the solar rays. The once clean and orderly cockpit was now a mess. The cockpit walls were squeezed by the Titans’ flesh, warning red lights flashing wildly, making Ji Mingzhu’s face look somewhat ferocious.

“There’s no time, Yao Guang.”

Ji Mingzhu took a deep breath. “This is something I have to do… I’m counting on you.”

[If the root of all this lies with me, then the one to end it all should also be me.]

Before losing his memory, Ji Mingzhu had already made this decision. For him, it was not just an empty slogan to save the world; it was also something that Ji Qiming had desperately protected. Even though his memory was erased by Cang Lan, Ji Mingzhu made the same choice.

Yao Guang’s eyes reddened, gritting his teeth. He said nothing but quickly entered the key and pressed the button.

Rumble—

Sky City shook violently, causing the twelve Titans inside to stagger. Ji Mingzhu managed to maintain balance through control, while the other eleven Titans weren’t so lucky, stumbling and toppling, giving Ji Mingzhu a brief respite.

In the next moment, the grand structures within Sky City began to collapse, like meticulously built blocks being forcefully pushed over. What had taken countless hours and manpower to construct could be reduced to ruin in an instant. As the violent shaking continued, the steel island’s ground started to crack, and the majestic buildings began to fall apart.

As the ground split apart, the Mother Aberration core buried beneath Sky City was finally exposed.

It was a massive, twisted black sphere, covered in a viscous black liquid. The liquid, seemingly alive, writhed and squirmed across the surface of the sphere. The enormous sphere was even larger than a Titan, making it almost unimaginable that such a colossal entity was hidden beneath the magnificent and grand Sky City.

“Wha… What’s with its size?”

From several dozen kilometers away, Yao Guang could clearly see the gigantic sphere, which resembled a black sun emerging from the ground, radiating an indescribable sense of danger and terror.

Not just Yao Guang, everyone was seeing the true form of the Mother Aberration core for the first time. Whether it was the citizens watching the satellite feed from the satellite cities or the numerous new human leaders in the virtual meeting, they all stared in shock.

This was an ominous sight.

“Ji Mingzhu!”

A shout came from behind. Ji Mingzhu looked down and saw Zhang Bifang had somehow made his way into Sky City.

The nearly split Sky City was a mess. The land was overturned, and the once smooth surface now resembled snarling fangs. Zhang Bifang struggled on the cracked ground, looking up at the massive black sphere with a pleading expression.

“Don’t… Don’t destroy it…”

Zhang Bifang mumbled loudly, his face showing desperation: “This is our last hope, please…”

We are humans too!

Though Zhang Bifang was the leader of the Aberrations, his physical strength was not very high, even weaker than a Catastrophe-level Aberration. In the face of such apocalyptic disaster, he was like an ant struggling in a storm. As the Mother Aberration core emerged, a black hurricane began to sweep and ravage the area. Invisible biological fluctuations started to slowly spread. Zhang Bifang trudged forward against the hurricane, his body rapidly undergoing corruption. His already horrifying form twisted and writhed in a very short time, making even the basic human shape barely recognizable.

In the storm, Zhang Bifang shouted, “What’s wrong with wanting to restore the Old Humans to their original state! Those things that invaded our homeland, they are the real outsiders, they are the abominations. Why won’t you help me! You too, Ji Qiming too. Even if you hate me, those who have become Aberrations are innocent!”

Ji Minzhu looked at him, his gaze growing colder.

You still think others are innocent.

The cause of all this was a small number of Old Humans, but the cost was borne by all the innocent people. Ambitious individuals led everyone down a path to ruin, and now they want to use this as leverage to drive that path to an even more irretrievable state.

Ji Mingzhu said with pity, “You are the least qualified to stand here and say such things.”

With that, Ji Mingzhu activated the Titan, Zhu Jiuyin, and moved forward against the black storm toward the massive core.

“You are a [Disseminator] too, aren’t you?”

The voice of Qi Ling rang out, coldly, “You still haven’t been corrupted… I should have realized it earlier. Ji Qiming wouldn’t do anything without purpose. He went to great lengths to keep you alive from the old era to now, it must be for some deeper reason… You were the Disseminator who came here before me, weren’t you?”

Eleven Titans roared in unison. Even their massive bodies were being pushed back by the storm, but at this moment, the eleven Titans seemed to have realized something. Dragging their heavy and enormous bodies across the shattered ground, they reached out to grab Zhu Jiuyin.

First, Zhu Rong grabbed Zhu Jiuyin’s leg, then Ju Mang grabbed Zhu Rong’s body, and then Gong Gong, Ru Shou…

The eleven Titans acted like a chain, firmly holding Zhu Jiuyin’s body, preventing it from moving forward. Countless fragments and debris, caught in the storm, battered the Titans’ bodies, creating a chaotic clamor.

“Yes, I am.”

Ji Mingzhu’s eardrums buzzed painfully, and he spoke with some difficulty.

“You have betrayed the cosmic deities!”

Qi Ling berated him angrily, “What is the duty of a Disseminator? Have you forgotten?! You actually… you actually dared to try to stop the gods. How dare you! As a Disseminator, you have forgotten your mission. Damn it, it’s you who is obstructing me! How could it be you!”

Qi Ling roared in anger, his words becoming increasingly chaotic. In the all-consuming black storm, Zhu Jiuyin’s outer armor rapidly peeled away. The crimson steel plates were shredded like delicate paper by the powerful airflow and swept into the air. Zhu Jiuyin, with its mountain-like body and the eleven Titans behind it, moved forward slowly but resolutely.

“Ah.”

Ji Mingzhu gripped the control lever, his eyes a bit dazed, but he still politely responded to Qi Ling, “Perhaps it’s because I am Ji Qiming’s younger brother.”
