ZOMBIE EMPEROR CULTIVATION

13. Apocalyptic Zoo

There were no signs of humans around the school, no voices, and no zombie growls either.

【It feels so deserted. Where did all the NPCs go?】

【Well, it is the apocalypse. It’d be more frightening if someone suddenly showed up.】

【But Zai Zai still needs to find food, and now there aren’t any monsters to farm.】

Ye You wasn’t worried about finding food. His perception range had expanded, and when he spread out his mental power, it could cover almost half of the city.

In his mental perception, the locations of crystal nuclei appeared one by one.

Perhaps because the crystal nucleus he consumed last night was as large as a red bean, Ye You wasn’t feeling hungry yet, so he wasn’t interested in the smaller crystal nuclei.

He was looking for the largest crystal nucleus.

Su Zi’an followed closely beside Ye You, cautiously surveying the buildings on both sides of the road.

He noticed that in the shadows of some buildings, one or several zombies with ferocious faces were hiding.

Those zombies moved stiffly, and even when Ye You and Su Zi’an passed by, they would only bare their teeth without stepping out of the shadows.

Su Zi’an stared at the zombies in the shadows for a moment, puzzled, and said, “They seem to really dislike sunlight.”

Ye You was still spreading his mental power to search for crystal nuclei. Hearing this, he explained, “Sunlight suppresses zombies.”

“It makes their movements stiff?” Su Zi’an asked.

“And accelerates their decay,” Ye You added casually.

“Decay…”

Su Zi’an recalled how, when he was treating Ye You, his arm had already started to rot.

His fingertips dug tightly into his palms, but his face remained expressionless. He softly asked, “Does the sunlight suppress you too, Ge?”

“It does,” Ye You replied calmly.

The sunlight’s suppression on him had always been there, but after consuming two crystal nuclei, his body’s stats had improved, making the sunlight’s effects less noticeable.

Su Zi’an looked up at the scorching sun overhead.

If… the time-reversal ability were strong enough, could he make this sky remain in eternal night?

Just thinking about how hard it would be to alter the starry sky was overwhelming.

Su Zi’an lowered his head in defeat, and out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a supermarket with its doors wide open, causing him to pause.

The supermarket had been almost completely looted, but what caught Su Zi’an’s attention were the plastic bins near the entrance, which had several umbrellas in them.

“Ge, wait for me a moment.”

Ye You stopped, watching as Su Zi’an hurriedly ran toward the supermarket.

Behind the shelves, a few dark figures were slowly moving, gradually approaching the entrance.

These zombies sure knew how to find a hiding spot.

Ye You walked toward the supermarket.

His mental power spread out, invading the gray mist in the zombies’ minds, and within an instant, he gained control over several of their bodies.

Su Zi’an picked out a large black umbrella and turned to see Ye You approaching. He asked curiously, “Ge, do you need anything else?”

“Seeds,” Ye You replied.

“Hmm?” Su Zi’an hadn’t figured out what they needed seeds for when he saw a few zombies, carrying fruit baskets, wobbling out of the supermarket.

Su Zi’an was startled and instinctively grabbed Ye You’s arm.

What was going on? Were zombies starting to run businesses now?

Ye You stepped forward.

The fruit baskets were almost empty, with only a layer of green leaves and a few small, either unripe or rotten fruits at the bottom.

It was clear that those who had left the school hadn’t spared even the fruit.

Ye You took a few green leaves from each basket and put them in his pocket. He then said to Su Zi’an, who was tense and ready to pull him away at any moment, “Let’s go.”

“Oh, okay!” Su Zi’an quickly pulled Ye You away from the supermarket.

It wasn’t until they could no longer see the zombies inside that Su Zi’an let out a long breath.

Su Zi’an opened the umbrella and held it over Ye You, asking, “Ge, does this help lessen the sunlight’s suppression on you?”

Ye You did feel much lighter on his feet.

He looked up at the black umbrella and said to Su Zi’an, “Not bad.”

Su Zi’an smiled.

【The little brother is so sweet. Keep holding the umbrella for Zai Zai forever~】

【Zai Zai cares about his brother too. He doesn’t eat human food, and he’s collecting fruit leaves to grow a fruit tree for his brother.】

【These brothers are inseparable!】

As they walked down the road, they saw abandoned cars everywhere, and occasionally, a zombie trapped in a car would bang on the windows, making noise.

Having seen zombies obediently bringing fruit baskets to Ye You, Su Zi’an was no longer nervous. Instead, he curiously asked Ye You, “Ge, where are we going?”

Ye You replied, “To the zoo ahead. There’s a rather large crystal nucleus there.”

“The zoo?”

Su Zi’an was confused. He didn’t recall any zoo near the school.

The nearest zoo… was the Century Wildlife Park outside the city, which usually took half a day to reach by bus from the school.

Ss, this “ahead” was actually over a hundred kilometers away.

Su Zi’an didn’t understand how his brother knew there was a crystal nucleus so far away, but if they walked the whole way, they might not make it before nightfall.

Not reaching it before dark meant his brother would go hungry.

“How about… we find a car?” Su Zi’an suggested, already scanning the area for one.

There were plenty of cars on the road, but the streets were in chaos, full of obstacles. Anyone with average driving skills wouldn’t be able to manage.

Su Zi’an ruled out all the four-wheeled vehicles and finally set his sights on a white two-wheeled electric scooter by the roadside.

His eyes lit up, and he pulled Ye You over. “Bro, come quick. I’ll give you a ride.”

“But there’s no key…” Not seeing a key on the scooter, Su Zi’an placed his hand on the handlebars, intending to use his ability to trace the key back.

A metallic clanging noise came from an alleyway between the nearby buildings, and a zombie wearing a helmet slowly emerged.

Ye You walked over to the zombie, took a keychain out of its pocket, and inserted it into the scooter.

“I’ll drive,” Ye You said.

“Okay.” Su Zi’an agreed with a smile and used his power to fully charge the battery.

He trusted his brother’s driving skills. If Ye You could handle modified cars, a little e-scooter should be no problem.

Ye You got on the scooter and lightly gripped the handlebars.

Despite having no memories related to driving, he instinctively knew how to ride it.

Su Zi’an sat behind Ye You, holding up the umbrella for him. “All set.”

Ye You suddenly twisted the throttle, and the scooter shot forward.

“??!” Su Zi’an, startled, grabbed onto Ye You’s waist.

Wait, what kind of speed was this? This scooter was definitely breaking the speed limit!

As he wondered about it, he saw them heading straight for a flipped truck ahead.

“Ge, Ge, Ge! Slow down! Turn!”

The white scooter narrowly missed the truck, making a sharp turn, only to head straight for a tree lying across the road.

“Ah ah ah, turn left, turn left! Ge, maybe I should drive!”

【Those driving skills, tsk, it’s like the racing games I play.】

【Zai! Zai! Take it easy! Mama’s heart can’t take this kind of excitement.】

The white scooter sped down the road, and Su Zi’an had already given up on holding the umbrella.

One hand gripped the umbrella, the other clutched Ye You’s waist, ready to jump off with Ye You at the first sign of trouble.

Fortunately, he has the ability to rewind time. As long as he doesn’t die on the spot, he can always bring himself back.

As they neared the location of the chosen crystal nucleus, Ye You felt a strong desire rising within him.

The crystal nucleus he saw through his mental perception was about the size of a peanut, black all over, and emitting powerful energy.

He had to obtain that crystal nucleus.

Even if he encountered other zombies or awakened beings with abilities on the way, Ye You ignored them all and pushed the scooter to its maximum speed.

An hour later.

The scooter stopped at the entrance of the zoo.

Su Zi’an’s legs were still trembling when he got off.

An electric scooter traveling at over a hundred kilometers per hour, narrowly avoiding numerous obstacles on the road, tested one’s psychological endurance to the limit.

How was such a vehicle even allowed for sale without being confiscated by the police?

Ye You’s eyes glowed crimson as he spread his mental power, covering the entire zoo.

The wildlife park was large. Besides the crystal nucleus the size of a peanut, it was filled with many mutated plants and animals.

“Roar—Roar—”

As Ye You’s mental power locked onto the largest crystal nucleus, several lion roars echoed through the park.

Su Zi’an flinched and immediately ran to Ye You’s side, warily looking at the zoo.

The park was shrouded in black mist, looking extremely eerie.

“Ge, this place seems off.”

【You’ll get used to it. After the rose-covered apartments and the labyrinth-like school, what else in the apocalypse seems right?】

【Don’t worry, the streamer is a plant system. There might not be much else here, but there are definitely lots of trees.】

【My Zai Zai can knock out big cats with one punch.】
