Cloud Raising Little Zombies: Chapter 15

ZOMBIE EMPEROR CULTIVATION

15. Lion King Da Mao

【Gun Gun 1! Fat Tiger! White Lion! Wow, this game’s realism is beyond godly.】

【Wrong channel, why is a documentary being streamed in the game section?】

【Hello? Why are you playing a movie during a live stream?】

【Don’t you think these animals are all massive? Not to mention, that golden python must be nearly twenty meters long, right?】

【Yeah, it does seem that way. Our Zai Zai might not even be a mouthful for them.】

Amid the chorus of animal roars, Ye You calmly set Su Zi’an down and began to survey the surroundings.

The black mist and the bamboo forest were clearly divided, as if something was blocking the mist.

    Bamboo?

No, bamboo was just an ordinary plant with no signs of special abilities.

It was the group of mutated animals—the energy they emitted together formed a barrier that kept the black mist at bay.

As soon as Su Zi’an touched the ground, he found himself face-to-face with a group of oversized animals, so tense that his breath caught in his throat.

He had visited this zoo just last year, and back then, the animals definitely weren’t this large.

How were so many completely different species managing to coexist?

Had the apocalypse not only enlarged the animals but also changed their nature?

The white-maned lion shook its thick mane, the black-and-white giant panda chomped down on a bamboo shoot, and the massive tiger leapt down from a rock…

All the mutated animals began to move, slowly closing in on the two intruders at the bamboo forest entrance.

The morning glory vines beside Ye You showed no intention of retreating, spreading into the bamboo forest.

He hadn’t come here to fight this group of mutated animals. After all, their crystal nuclei were only the size of grains of rice, which didn’t particularly interest him.

What he wanted was the core of that old lion, a black crystal nucleus the size of a peanut.

However, if these mutated animals caused trouble, he wouldn’t mind collecting a few small cores to fill his pouch.

“Ge…” These were all protected animals.

Seeing Ye You’s stern expression, Su Zi’an decided not to say anything and instead began to quietly channel his ability, ready to use it if needed.

They weren’t sitting in a secure tour vehicle now; these wild animals were truly capable of taking lives.

Both sides stood on guard, testing each other. The tension in the air was palpable, with a fight on the verge of breaking out.

At that moment, the window of the wooden cabin was gently pushed open, and a little girl peeked her head out from below.

The faint sound of the window opening caught Ye You’s attention. He looked up and met a pair of particularly lively big eyes.

The girl inside the cabin appeared to be around three or four years old, with black animal ear accessories on her head.

When she locked eyes with Ye You, she turned back and called into the cabin, “Daddy, there’s a big brother outside.”

The girl’s voice wasn’t loud, but in the quiet bamboo forest, it carried far.

The group of mutated animals seemed to be invigorated by something. Without further hesitation, they suddenly charged at the two people at the entrance of the bamboo forest.

Ye You sprang into action, leaping into the air along with the morning glory vines that followed his movements, attacking the mutated animals.

Leading the charge was the white-maned lion.

The white lion pushed off the ground with its hind legs, its upper body rising as it spread its front paws, sharp claws slashing toward Ye You.

As the lion’s claws were about to strike, Ye You lightly tapped his foot on the morning glory vines, springing into the air for a second jump, narrowly avoiding the lion’s attack.

He placed his hand on the lion’s head, spun around in midair, and landed on the lion’s back, gripping its thick mane.

“Roar—” The white lion let out an angry roar, twisting its head to try and bite Ye You.

Morning glory vines wrapped around its mouth, stuffing it full of flowers.

From the lion’s rear left side, the brownish-yellow tiger was already lunging forward.

Using the lion’s body as a springboard, Ye You leapt, narrowly avoiding the tiger as it passed by.

The tiger crashed into the vine-entangled lion, and the two rolled several meters away together.

    “Roar—”

    “Howl—”

The lion’s roars and the tiger’s growls mingled together.

【I’m stunned. I just went to call my buddies in the group, and how did the white lion I was rooting for get taken out?】

【I bet on the fat tiger, but it turned into a rice dumpling.】

【Come on, giant panda! For the dignity of the bamboo-eating beast!】

【Zai Zai, be careful! The panda, it’s charging at you! Wait… did it just roll away?】

Ye You landed in the bamboo forest, now covered in morning glory vines, his gaze sweeping over the halted mutated animals before finally resting on the two people emerging from the wooden cabin.

A middle-aged man in a blue work uniform was holding the little girl, who looked to be about three or four years old.

It was just a moment ago when the little girl shouted, “Stop fighting,” and all the mutated animals immediately ceased their actions.

    An ability.

An ability that could control animals or communicate with them.

The crystal nucleus in the man’s mind was only the size of a grain of rice, placing him on the same level as these mutated animals, meaning it was impossible for him to control so many of them if their levels were equal.

So it must be the latter.

The little girl was an ability user, but the middle-aged man was just an ordinary person.

Ye You quickly calculated their combat strength. In a direct confrontation, he definitely couldn’t take on so many thick-skinned and tough mutated animals, but his morning glory vines had already spread throughout the entire bamboo forest.

Su Zi’an ran over to Ye You’s side, first grabbing Ye You’s hand and using his ability to rewind Ye You’s state to three minutes earlier.

The ability was exhausted in an instant, and Su Zi’an’s face turned pale.

The entire standoff and battle had lasted less than half a minute, but Ye You had used a significant amount of energy carrying Su Zi’an and spreading the morning glory vines through the bamboo forest.

Su Zi’an, after depleting his own energy, had also brought Ye You nearly back to his peak condition.

Ye You’s eyes flickered slightly as he tightened his grip on Su Zi’an’s hand, thinking about which direction he should throw Su Zi’an if a fight broke out.

The middle-aged man looked at the two boys in school uniforms and softened his expression.

“You must be visitors, right? I’m the zoo director. The animals mean no harm; they just mistook you for attackers since you emerged from the black mist.”

Su Zi’an studied the middle-aged man holding the child.

He vaguely remembered the man, who was indeed the zoo director. He often personally guided tourists around the zoo and seemed like a very approachable person.

“Attackers? You mean the moving black mist?” Su Zi’an asked, following the director’s words.

“You encountered it?” The director’s expression showed surprise. “It’s been getting stronger these days, even affecting the animals…”

    “Roar~”

A tiger’s growl interrupted, and the director hesitated before noticing the two figures tangled in morning glory vines at the bamboo forest entrance. He scratched his head awkwardly and said:

“Could you let them go? I can hold them back so they won’t attack you again. Maybe you’d like to rest in the cabin for a bit?”

Su Zi’an hesitated, unsure of what was inside the cabin and not fully trusting the director’s assurances.

Moreover, they had come out here to find crystal nuclei for his brother.

These animals were so large; they were definitely not ordinary animals, and they must have crystal nuclei.

This was the apocalypse, and since it involved his brother, Su Zi’an wasn’t going to worry about protecting animals.

As Su Zi’an was unsure what to do, Ye You spoke up, “Of course.”

As he said this, the vines wrapped around the two mutated animals retreated.

The tiger wobbled to its feet, shaking its head vigorously as if it had drunk too much.

The white lion lay on the ground, motionless.

The true power of the morning glory vines wasn’t in their ability to entangle, but in their ability to induce hallucinations.

When the tiger collided with the white lion and got tangled, the morning glory released a fragrant scent with hallucinogenic properties, plunging it into a dreamlike state.

As for the white lion, it had taken a mouthful of flowers, making it even more susceptible.

At this point, the entire bamboo forest was filled with morning glory vines.

With just a single thought from Ye You, the floral scent could send all the animals and the two humans into a deep illusion.

“We’ve traveled a long way, and my brother is very weak right now. Could you offer us a place to rest?” Ye You asked.

Su Zi’an didn’t know what his brother was planning, but he cooperatively gave the zoo director a sheepish smile.

After all, he had just exhausted his energy, and his pale face made him look extremely frail.

Seeing Su Zi’an’s pallor, the director quickly nodded. “Of course.”

He set the little girl down and ushered them inside.

Before entering the wooden cabin, Ye You glanced back.

The little girl had run over to the white lion, crouched beside it, and was gently stroking its massive head.

There was no one else inside the cabin, something Ye You had already sensed.

The director arranged a room for the two, which contained only a bamboo mat and a small low table.

Once the director had left, Su Zi’an lowered his voice and asked, “Ge, what are you planning?”

    “Wait,” Ye You replied calmly.

“Wait for who?” Su Zi’an was puzzled.

Ye You gave him a sidelong glance. “The old lion, of course. Who else?”

    【Zai Zai’s disdainful look is adorable.】

【Ye You: What kind of dumb little brother is this? Might as well sell him.】

    【Is this the baby panda’s room?】

【This director sure doesn’t know how to treat guests. Where’s the baby panda for us to cuddle?】

    Knock, knock, knock—

The director gently tapped on the wooden door. “I washed a few apples. Would you like some?”

Seeing Ye You’s nonchalant expression, Su Zi’an, eager to learn more about the black mist, got up to open the door.

The director was holding a plate of red and yellow apples. As soon as he saw Su Zi’an, he offered them.

“This is all we have left—some apples. They were originally for the giant panda, but now… sigh.” The director let out a long sigh.

Su Zi’an joined in the lamenting for a moment before inviting the director inside.

“We just came out of the black mist and don’t know much about what’s going on. Could you tell us about the current situation?”

The director sat cross-legged at the low table and began to speak. “It all started a few days ago with that strange disease. We were in the process of evacuating visitors and preparing to close the zoo when suddenly, many of the animals went berserk.

“Da Mao… oh, that’s the one responsible for this black mist, an old lion, the former king of the pride.

“Da Mao was one of the first animals to go mad.”
