Cloud Raising Little Zombies: Chapter 34
NECROMANCER GOD’S CULTIVATION
34. Magic: Meditation Technique & Necromancy Realm
【You Zai is live! It’s a new instance with a new map!】
【Zai Zai’s facial features have changed a bit, feels like he’s mixed race now, but still super handsome and cute~】
【His outfit has changed too, giving off an ancient Western vibe.】
【Even the language is different. I don’t even know what they’re speaking, but luckily there are subtitles.】
【S-level necromancy talent sounds powerful, but why do the people around him look like that?】
【Necromancy, the classic villain setup in Western fantasy. Does Zai Zai really like villain factions?】
【This is bad, is there going to be a fight? Zai Zai just entered the instance, and there are so many people here. Can he handle it?】
【Zai Zai in danger!】
The student’s shout of “S-level necromancy talent” was extremely loud.
All the teachers and students leading the group, along with the teenagers participating in the entrance test, heard it.
For a moment, various puzzled and doubtful gazes fell on Ye You.
Especially the teenagers who had come to take the entrance test like Ye You—they all wished they could stay a hundred meters away from him.
Their eyes were filled with fear and dread as they looked at Ye You, as if he were some kind of evil monster.
Ye You sensed everyone’s reaction and actually felt a little more at ease.
He didn’t quite understand what necromancy was, but it probably had something to do with his identity as a zombie.
It was clear that necromancy was a rejected attribute here, but unlike zombies in the apocalypse, people in this world didn’t immediately call for the extermination of necromancers on sight.
That was already good enough.
Otherwise, with so many S-level and A-level ability users nearby, if they all attacked him at once, he would have no choice but to start a journey of escape in this unfamiliar world.
Ye You looked at the elder in charge of the test, neither panicked nor uneasy, and calmly asked, “Is it done?”
Under his hand, the gray mist had already filled the entire crystal ball.
This should be the end of the test, right?
“…Of course.” The elder in charge of the test looked at Ye You with an extremely complicated expression.
One wood element, one necromancy element—one representing life, the other death.
The deathly aura even overshadowed the aura of life.
He had been a teacher at the Empire’s top magic academy for decades and had seen many students with dual-element magic talent, but such an unusual combination of elements was unheard of.
Yet this young man had high-level talent in both elements.
Ye You withdrew his hand, ready to leave.
Although these people hadn’t called for his immediate extermination, they probably wouldn’t welcome someone with necromancy talent either.
However, just as he was about to take a step, the elder in charge of the test said, “With an A-level wood element talent and an S-level necromancy talent, either one is enough for you to enter the academy.”
Ye You paused and looked back at the elder.
The elder sighed and said, “But you can only become a student of one of the divisions: either the Natural Sciences Division or the Dark Necromancy Division. Have you decided where you want to go?”
If it were an ordinary magic element, as a mentor, he would certainly recommend the student choose the element with the higher talent. Especially when one of those talents was the top-tier S-level.
For magic users with low talent, like those with D-level talent, it was difficult to draw elemental energy into their bodies and convert it into their own magic power.
Cultivating required a lot of time, but the results were often mediocre.
For those with higher magic talent, like B-level and A-level, drawing elemental energy into their bodies was as easy as eating and drinking.
And for the top-tier S-level, it was as simple as breathing.
Elements of the same type would actively rush into the bodies of those with S-level talent.
As long as they were alive, they were constantly cultivating, truly the chosen ones of the gods!
It’s just that this one… is probably the divine child of the Necromancer God.
“I choose the Dark Necromancy Academy,” Ye You stated his choice.
Wood attribute likely corresponded to the plant-based powers he was familiar with, but necromancy was an unknown to him, and he relished unknown challenges.
Especially after noticing how those around him reacted to necromancy with either fear or disgust.
Even the leading instructor furrowed his brows when he heard Ye You’s attribute was necromancy.
This only piqued Ye You’s interest further.
The elderly man seemed to sigh, though whether in relief or regret was unclear.
He took Ye You’s information from the instructor who had brought him and, after some writing, handed a few yellowed sheets of paper to Ye You.
The old man said, “From now on, you are a student of the Dark Necromancy Division of the Empire’s First Magic Academy. The path of a necromancer is destined to be accompanied by rejection and criticism. I hope you will stay true to yourself and persevere.”
Ye You accepted the papers and left the testing queue.
The students who had earlier tried to recruit him into their societies now retreated far away. The yet-to-be-tested youths looked at him with both fear and envy in their eyes.
As he passed his leading instructor, the scholarly-looking middle-aged man, still frowning with a face as if he had eaten something unpleasant, said disdainfully:
“The Dark Necromancy Academy is behind the forest in the northwest part of the school.”
Ye You gave a faint thanks and walked towards the academy.
【Wuwuwu, my Zai Zai doesn’t smile anymore. So what if it’s a necromancy attribute? Did necromancy take your family’s rice?】
【My Zai Zai is handsome, powerful, and talented. Who cares about these NPCs?】
【Pat, pat Zai Zai, we’ll be here with you in this new world.】
【Sending Zai Zai a dozen lollipops. Don’t be sad, Zai Zai, eat one and cheer up, okay?】
After entering the academy, Ye You finally had the chance to look at the screen beside him.
One glance, and he noticed the live stream had already started, and the entire screen was filled with comforting messages from the viewers.
Ye You paused for a moment, and seeing no one around, he softly said to the viewers, “I’m not upset.”
As soon as the words left his mouth, he received a barrage of virtual kisses, hugs, and various types of virtual candy, and his points skyrocketed.
Seeing the points increase, Ye You remembered the point shop and decided to find a place to check if he could make purchases from the shop after entering this world.
Upon entering the academy, a simple map carved on a stone was visible, and there were signs indicating many prominent locations.
Following the map and signs, Ye You walked through the campus.
It seemed today was the first day of school registration, as the academy was filled with students around Ye You’s age.
Some wore uniforms of a standard design, which were likely school uniforms, while others wore casual clothes or intricately patterned robes.
Ye You discreetly observed the attire of those around him.
Some of their garments emitted energy fluctuations, as if they were wearing energy crystals, similar to crystal cores, as accessories.
The energy within the crystals flowed in a distinct pattern.
While Ye You was observing others, many people were also discreetly glancing at him.
A handsome new student with an extraordinary air about him was indeed eye-catching.
Unfortunately, his clothes were too plain, suggesting he was probably a commoner.
Some people were itching to make a move, while others averted their eyes in disappointment.
“Leader, who is responsible for welcoming the new members of our society this year?” A delicate blonde girl with blue eyes softly asked the person beside her.
The tall, red-haired girl next to her turned her head in surprise, a trace of confusion appearing on her face. “Why are you asking about that? Or… Lucy, did you take a liking to that person just now?”
Don’t think she didn’t notice Lucy staring at that new student.
What was so remarkable about that new student? He just had a slightly handsome face, but he looked weak, probably wouldn’t even be able to take one punch from her.
“Yes,” Lucy smiled, but only added when she saw the redhead cracking her knuckles, “I sensed a strong aura of death around him.”
“Death aura, a necromancer?”
The red-haired girl knew that when her friend said she “took a liking,” it wasn’t in the way she first thought. Her expression softened, but her confusion deepened.
“Isn’t he a freshman? He shouldn’t have been exposed to necromancy yet, so why would he have a death aura?”
Only those who had studied necromancy carried the aura of death.
If he came from an ancient family of magicians, that could explain it, as he might have received related education from a young age.
Or perhaps he came from a high noble family, as they could afford to hire magicians to tutor their children, giving them a chance to learn necromancy.
But his clothes were typical of a commoner, with not a single magic crystal on him, clearly unrelated to either background.
“That’s why I want to know more about him,” Lucy winked at the redhead.
“Fine, I’ll ask around for you,” the redhead replied.
Meanwhile, unaware of being the subject of interest since he hadn’t spread his spiritual awareness, Ye You continued on his way to the Dark Necromancy Academy.
The academy was enormous, and the Dark Necromancy branch was extremely remote.
As it was Ye You’s first time here, he didn’t want to attract attention, so he adjusted his pace to match those around him.
He walked for twenty minutes straight.
Passing through a somewhat eerie small forest, crows flew up and down, disappearing into the trees.
Ye You finally spotted a Gothic-style ancient building. There were no students or instructors around—just silence and stillness.
This must be the Dark Necromancy Academy.
Ye You entered the building and immediately saw a set of black wooden tables and chairs by the corner of the stairs. Sitting in the chair was a figure dressed in an elaborate gown… a humanoid skeleton.
【?! Bullet screen protection activated!】
【I’m here to contribute to the bullet screen.】
【Am I the only one who thinks this skeleton looks quite nice? That dress is gorgeous.】
【As expected of the Necromancy Academy—finding love around the corner. I love this skeleton.】
Ye You stopped in his tracks, meeting the hollow eyes of the skeletal figure.
Through its eye sockets, he could see a wisp of eerie blue soul fire flickering within its skull.
A chilling female voice echoed in Ye You’s mind: “Present your entrance test slip here to receive your textbooks.”
Entrance test slip?
The elderly man in charge of the test had given Ye You a few papers. Ye You took them out to check.
The papers were covered in unfamiliar, flamboyant writing, yet Ye You could inexplicably understand every word.
Just like how the people here spoke a language he had never heard before, but he could comprehend and communicate with them effortlessly.
The three papers were his dormitory assignment, course schedule, and a paper listing his innate attributes.
Calmly, Ye You took out the last paper and placed it on the black wooden desk.
A skeletal hand extended forward, and the skeleton lady picked up the test slip, glancing at it with her hollow eyes.
The eerie female voice once again echoed in Ye You’s mind, this time carrying a hint of astonishment.
“An S-level necromancy talent,” the skeleton lady scrutinized Ye You from head to toe, then said, “You are the most talented student I’ve seen in my century at the Magic Academy.”
Ye You rarely interacted with strangers, especially unfamiliar skeletons.
He pondered how a normal person might respond in such a situation and then calmly replied, “Thank you for the compliment.”
“Compliment?!”
The skeleton lady’s voice suddenly spiked by eight octaves, then immediately dropped back down. “Yes, that is indeed a compliment. S-rank necromancy talent, a favored child of the gods—such talent certainly deserves all the praise.”
Ye You quietly watched her.
Perhaps finding his demeanor too dull, the skeleton lady put away the test slip and waved her hand. “Take one book from each stack on the table, then head to your dormitory.”
On the table were two piles of books. One was titled 《Necromancy》, and the other 《Undead Creatures》.
There were only five copies in each stack. It wasn’t clear whether most of the necromancy students had already collected their books, or if necromancy students were just incredibly rare.
Ye You guessed it was the latter.
He took one book from each stack, and then heard the skeleton lady say, “Turn right, your dormitory is the first room on the third floor.”
So the dormitories were in the same building as the classrooms? It seemed the Dark Necromancy Academy really didn’t have many students.
“Thank you,” Ye You responded with the politeness expected of a normal person receiving guidance.
The skeleton lady pressed down on her silken hat and gave a sinister smile.
Following her instructions, Ye You found his dormitory.
The door wasn’t locked, and it was slightly ajar.
Ye You pushed the door open, revealing a small, dimly lit double room.
There were two beds and two sets of desks and chairs.
The left bed was already made, and two textbooks lay on the desk, indicating someone had already moved in.
However, the occupant wasn’t in the room at the moment, likely out somewhere.
Ye You entered, shutting the door behind him.
He placed the books on the desk on the right side and began making his bed.
The academy provided basic living necessities, including sheets, a quilt, and a pillow, though they were all packaged, and students had to make their beds themselves.
Once he finished, Ye You listened carefully. No one seemed to be approaching the room.
He then opened his light screen, navigated to the Points Mall, and spent one point to purchase a small dagger.
The dagger appeared in his hand.
After confirming that he could use the Points Mall in this new world, Ye You closed it and turned his attention to the bullet screen.
【I want to read the magic book, Zai Zai! I want to learn magic!】
Noticing this comment on the bullet screen, Ye You walked over to the desk, sat down, and opened the book 《Necromancy》.
He, too, was quite interested in this necromancy magic.
The first page recorded two Level-0 spells: “Meditation” and “Undead Realm.”
It seemed that Level-0 indicated these spells had very weak power and were easy to learn.
Ye You studied them carefully, and sure enough, the incantations for these spells were very simple—easy to grasp at a glance.
The Meditation spell was straightforward. It involved calming the mind, absorbing magical elements from the air, and converting them into one’s own mana.
The Undead Realm spell, however, was a bit strange.
The description in the magic book made it sound simple—just wrap your body in necromantic mana.
But the book didn’t explain what purpose that served, and Ye You couldn’t guess its effect either.
In the end, Ye You decided to use Meditation to absorb necromantic magical elements, then try wrapping his body in the mana he gathered to personally experience the effect of Undead Realm.
Since Meditation didn’t restrict his posture, Ye You chose the position that allowed him to concentrate the best.
Grabbing both books, he lay down on the bed and closed his eyes.
Using the method described in Meditation, Ye You began to sense the elements. Countless gray elements, invisible to the naked eye, surged wildly into his body.
A moment later, Ye You opened his eyes.
He felt as though he had been “filled.”
However, the amount of mana inside him was still quite small—not even as much as the energy of a D-level crystal nucleus.
It seemed that his “mana reservoir” was too small right now, unable to store more energy.
Without dwelling on the cause, Ye You began to try the *Undead Realm*.
He mobilized his pitiful amount of mana and wrapped it around his body.
As the mana completely enveloped him, Ye You felt a fluctuation in the space around him.
The soft bedding beneath him suddenly turned hard.
Ye You opened his eyes to see a red moon hanging high in the sky.
It was clearly still daytime at the academy.
And he was no longer in his dormitory.
Ye You sat up from the black earth and saw a giant white skeleton leisurely walking past him.
In the distance, countless skeletal figures wandered across the barren wasteland, with ghostly blue flames flickering in their skulls.
The Undead Realm… this was the Undead Realm.
Ye You understood the meaning of that spell’s name.
It was a magic that could instantly transport a necromancer to the realm of the dead.
【Why did the map change so suddenly? “Infinite World: Magic Realm – Undead Realm,” is this a derivative instance of the magic world?】
【This is magic! Zai Zai just learned this spell, did everyone else learn it too?】
【What do you mean? I can’t even read the words, I’m paying a fortune for a translation.】
【Bones! It’s all bones! My trypophobia is kicking in.】
【By the way, why is there no mosaic this time?】
【Maybe the game developers thought skeletons are cute?】
【Monster spawning! So many wild monsters! I can do it! Let me go!】
