NECROMANCER GOD’S CULTIVATION

39. “Don’t tell me, do you want to become a Lich?” Xia Zuo approached Ye You, his cold green eyes reflecting Ye You’s pale and handsome face.

【I heard this livestream lets you cloud-raise undead creatures. I’ll throw in a thousand-layer cake—can I pick a skeleton? Let’s name it… Zai Zai No. 20!】  

【Don’t even think about it. The Zai Zai numbers are already past 200. But you can co-raise a skeleton with someone.】  

It took Ye You an hour to finish contracting all the skeleton soldiers and repairing every damaged undead creature.  

Looking at the imposing formation of skeleton soldiers, a faint smile appeared on Ye You’s face as he cheerfully went to bid Lucy farewell.  

Lucy was squatting on the ground, fiddling with a skull. When she looked up and saw Ye You approaching, her expression was still dazed.  

Others could contract skeleton soldiers at a rate of one per second, even repairing them along the way.  

And her?  

An hour had passed, and she still hadn’t managed to contract a single skeleton soldier.  

Was the gap between A-level and S-level talent really this wide?  

“Thanks for your help. Goodbye,” Ye You said simply.  

“It’s me who should thank you…” Lucy forced a stiff smile.  

Though she knew she should try to get along with Ye You, her mental state was crumbling, filled with self-doubt.  

After taking a moment to compose herself, Lucy added, “See you in a week.”  

Ye You gave a slight nod before leading his undead creatures away.  

The Necromancy instructor, Xia Zuo, had said that as long as his teachings were mastered, attending class wasn’t necessary.  

Since Ye You, as a zombie, didn’t need food or drink, he had no reason to return to the magical realm.  

He decided to stay in the undead realm for the entire week and only leave when it was time for the assessment.  

Ye You began roaming the undead realm.  

He replenished his lost skeletal minions and repeatedly raided groups of skeleton soldiers to increase their numbers under his contract.  

Over the past few days, Ye You was either contracting undead creatures or on his way to do so.  

In Lucy’s presence, he had only directed his undead creatures from a distance, occasionally chanting a spell.  

Now, with no one from the magical realm around, Ye You personally joined the battlefield, engaging in close combat with the undead creatures.  

After just one battle, his school uniform was filthy and torn.  

The live chat filled with heartache for him, prompting Ye You to take a quick trip back to his Spirit Spring space.  

There, he harvested mature crystal cores, watered the mutant rose, and finally took a bath.  

He noticed that the Points Shop had stocked some clothes from the magical realm, including uniforms from the Necromancy Class. He exchanged some points for a few sets and began changing daily.  

On the sixth day in the undead realm, Ye You led his undead army out of the Wandering Bone Plains, a region abundant in low-level humanoid skeletons.  

Beyond the plains, the terrain became uneven, with barren hills appearing in the distance.  

Contracting skeleton soldiers was no longer challenging.  

Ye You’s new target was the level-3 undead creatures in the Bewildering Hills.  

“Awooo~~”  

A wolf’s howl echoed in Ye You’s mind. He turned toward the source.  

On a nearby hill, more than a dozen wolf-shaped undead creatures lay crouched.  

A bone wolf stood up and howled at the blood moon in the sky. The rest followed, raising their heads to let out chilling howls.  

【New undead creatures! Time to place another order!】  

【Amazing, I want a cloud-raised wolf now.】  

The eerie wolf howls reverberated in Ye You’s mind.  

Bone Direwolves, level-3 undead creatures found in the Bewildering Hills, excelled in speed and endurance, typically moving in packs of ten to twenty.  

This was how they were described in the Undead Creatures book.  

That girl had mentioned that a level-1 apprentice mage could only summon ten level-1 undead creatures in the magical realm.  

If Ye You wasn’t mistaken, level-2 apprentice mages could summon only ten level-2 undead creatures.  

Both Ye You and Lucy had level-2 skeleton soldiers.  

Although the criteria for the Necromancy Class assessment were unclear, Ye You aimed to be the top student, which meant surpassing his classmates.  

He planned to contract a group of level-3 undead creatures before the assessment began.  

Ye You ordered a hundred skeleton soldiers to advance toward the Bone Direwolves.  

When the soldiers were within a hundred meters of the hill, the wolf howls in Ye You’s mind ceased.  

The Bone Direwolves fixed their gaze on the skeleton soldiers and, like arrows released from bows, charged down the hill.  

In just three seconds, the Bone Direwolves had plunged into the midst of the skeleton soldiers.  

They leaped high, sinking their teeth into the skeletons’ skulls.  

Under the immense bite force, the skulls shattered, and ghostly blue soul flames drifted from between the wolves’ fangs. 

In a single clash, over a dozen skeleton soldiers lost their soul fire.  

The remaining skeleton soldiers raised their slender bone blades and struck at the Bone Direwolves.  

The blades left faint marks on the wolves’ white bones, but in the process, the bone swords themselves chipped.  

As level-3 undead creatures, the Bone Direwolves’ bones were harder than the skeletons’ weapons.  

Despite being outnumbered, with more than ten Bone Direwolves against over a hundred skeleton soldiers, the wolves held the upper hand.  

Ye You directed a new group of skeleton soldiers to split into two squads, slowly encircling the wolf pack in battle.  

At the same time, he personally led another 200 skeleton soldiers into the fray.  

One Bone Direwolf set its sights on Ye You.  

It darted swiftly through the chaotic throng of skeleton soldiers and was upon him in an instant.  

Unlike how it leapt for the skeletons’ skulls, this time its target was Ye You’s legs.  

But Ye You wasn’t just a typical mage—his body was S-level.  

As the Bone Direwolf lunged, Ye You suddenly leaned forward, pressing his palm hard on the wolf’s head.  

This slowed its charge, and Ye You used the momentum to flip himself onto the wolf’s back.  

The Bone Direwolf twisted its head, attempting to bite him.  

Ye You instinctively swung his fist, striking first.  

His punch landed on the Bone Direwolf’s face, shattering its jaw instantly.  

The Bone Direwolf was stunned.  

Ye You: “…Sorry, I didn’t mean to hit that hard.”  

He genuinely hadn’t intended to; he only wanted to cast the undead contract spell up close.  

The wolf’s attempt to bite him triggered an automatic response.  

Now he had to spend time and mana to fix the wolf’s broken jaw.  

Clearly, the Bone Direwolf wouldn’t accept his apology.  

Jawless, it began bucking wildly, trying to throw Ye You off.  

Ye You clamped his legs around the wolf’s ribs, gripping its neck vertebra with one hand and its skull with the other.  

As the wolf struggled furiously, Ye You calmly began chanting the undead contract spell.  

His mental power, infused with a touch of magic, invaded the Bone Direwolf’s soul fire.  

The resistance in the soul fire was much fiercer than when he contracted the Bone Skeleton or the skeleton soldiers—likely because those creatures had already lost their combat strength.  

This Bone Direwolf, however, still thought it could fight.  

It held out for three seconds under Ye You’s S-level mental power before the contract mark was imprinted.  

A surge of powerful undead magic filled Ye You, signaling his advancement.  

With the contract sealed, Ye You had officially become a level-3 apprentice mage.  

Dismounting from the now obedient Bone Direwolf, he used necromantic magic to restore its shattered jaw.  

【100 lollipops—name it “Xiao Xiao”~】  

【200 lollipops—hey, over here! Can I request a “Treasure Skeleton”?】  

【This one is mine—my “Skeleton-chan”!】  

Ye You glanced at the screen.  

As expected, the livestream chat was already debating what to name the Bone Direwolf.  

He chose the most memorable name at a glance and carved it into the wolf’s skull.  

【Zai Zai! The other wolves are escaping!】  

【Don’t let them go! I’ve already reserved them!】  

【Nonsense, I reserved them first!】  

【Reserved? Did you ask the lollipops in our hands first?】

Two Bone Direwolves had their leg bones severed by skeleton soldiers, while the others had already fled the battlefield, sprinting into the distance.  

The Bone Direwolves were incredibly fast, covering a hundred meters in mere seconds.  

This was the first time Ye You encountered undead creatures that would run away.  

Fortunately, he had prepared in advance, positioning over a thousand skeleton soldiers in multiple layered formations to encircle the area.  

With his newly contracted Bone Direwolf, Ye You led the pursuit of the remaining wolves.  

As he ran, he chanted continuously, launching bone arrows one after another.  

Each arrow aimed precisely at the bone joints of the fleeing wolves’ limbs.  

Five minutes later, the battle was over.  

Three Bone Direwolves escaped the encirclement, but eleven were left behind.  

Ye You contracted the remaining wolves and repaired their damages before leading his undead companions away from the Bewildering Hills, returning to the Wandering Bone Plains.  

Eleven Bone Direwolves were enough—Ye You was ready to make a trip back to the magic realm.  

He brought the contracted undead back to the Wandering Bone Plains because the undead creatures there were of lower levels, making it safer.  

If he left them in the Bewildering Hills, he feared that in his absence, a pack of Bone Direwolves could easily destroy his contracted creatures.  

Ye You withdrew the undead magic that enveloped his body.  

In the next moment, he reappeared in the classroom of the Necromancy Magic class.  

The classroom was as dark as ever, and it seemed class was not in session, as it was completely empty.  

As Ye You stepped forward to leave, he suddenly sensed a powerful surge of magic coming from the direction of the lectern.  

Turning his head, he saw a towering blue flame rise rapidly. When the flame dispersed, Necromancy Instructor Xia Zuo appeared on the platform.  

Xia Zuo seemed to be there specifically for him, his gaze locking onto Ye You the moment he arrived.  

Ye You stopped and turned to face Xia Zuo, greeting politely, “Instructor.”  

With a grim expression, Xia Zuo descended from the platform, his emerald-green eyes fixed on Ye You. In a deep voice, he said:  

“You stayed in the Undead Realm for six and a half days, yet the undead magic you possess isn’t sufficient to sustain you that long.”  

“Contracting higher-level undead creatures grants undead magic,” Ye You explained.  

“That’s not enough,” Xia Zuo shook his head and continued:  

“In six days, you advanced from a level-1 apprentice mage to a level-3 apprentice mage. You must have experienced intense battles, used a great deal of magic, and contracted undead creatures… all of which require mana.”  

Ye You met Xia Zuo’s gaze, crimson eyes locking with emerald ones.  

Xia Zuo slowly revealed his conclusion:  

“In the Undead Realm, you absorbed undead elements to generate mana.”  

Ye You didn’t deny it.  

Though he never actively absorbed the undead elements, they seemed to flow into his body on their own, transforming into his undead magic.  

During his six-day stay in the Undead Realm, except when using large amounts of magic, Ye You’s undead magic remained full.  

Seeing Ye You unmoved, Xia Zuo’s voice suddenly rose.  

“I told you in the very first class—never attempt to use Meditation in the Undead Realm!”  

“Absorbing the death energy and resentment from the Undead Realm will gradually strip away your sanity, turning you into an undead creature!”  

“Don’t tell me….” Xia Zuo drew closer, his cold green eyes reflecting Ye You’s pale, handsome face.  

“Do you want to become a Lich…” Xia Zuo’s voice turned hoarse, like the hiss of a serpent.
