Cloud Raising Little Zombies: Chapter 4

4. Hunting A Water-Based Zombie

Ye You couldn’t find the lollipops.

His gaze returned to the “Rewards” and “Points” sections. Perhaps… the “lollipops” had been transformed into those numbers.

But what use were these numbers?

Ye You buried the question in his heart.

The first entity behind the light screen had shown him kindness.

Ye You confirmed this, which was why he was willing to share some of his situation with them.

But now, there were more entities behind the light screen.

Ye You had no memories of the past; he only remembered his name.

He didn’t know the origin of the light screen, nor did he understand the intentions of the many entities behind it.

    He couldn’t trust them.

Numbers or light screens, neither were problems that needed immediate resolution.

It was better to think about where to find more food.

Ye You spread out his mental power.

After swallowing the crystal nucleus of the rose vine, the range he could sense expanded from one apartment building to an entire residential area.

Twelve buildings and the surrounding environment were all within his perception.

Lush plants, zombies hidden in dark corners, humans driving away…

Ye You’s mental power brushed over each living being, but none of them triggered his hunger.

Some plants and flowers had a dense green mist that felt similar to the crystal nucleus of the mutated rose vine.

A similar phenomenon appeared in some zombies and unconscious humans, with various colored mists moving in their minds.

Perhaps given more time, these might turn into crystal nuclei, but for now, they were just inedible mist.

The only fully-formed crystal nucleus… well, it was in Ye You’s own mind.

One green, one colorless, both the size of a grain of rice.

The colorless crystal nucleus seemed to be his original one, while the green crystal nucleus was the one he had just consumed.

So it turns out that what a zombie eats ends up in its brain.

Ye You tore off a few rose leaves and held them in his hand while spreading his mental energy to sense food, walking out of the residential area.

    【Wow, going to explore a new map.】

【Hey, this is a survival game in a post-apocalyptic world, and he’s just going out empty-handed? Where’s the food? Where are the weapons? This streamer doesn’t know how to play. Give me the beta account; I’ll show you how it’s done!】

【Stop joking, that’s the human faction gameplay. Give me the beta account! I’ll rally a million zombie comrades to surround the city for you!】

【Seriously though, I’ve searched everywhere and can’t find the official website for this game. Where do you apply for the beta?】

Ye You searched for food while keeping an eye on the text on the light screen, extracting information for analysis.

It seemed that, in the eyes of those entities behind the light screen, the world he was in was a game, and a very appealing one at that.

They were eager to enter this world.

But they couldn’t contact the game’s developers, the entities that could grant them access to this world.

Is this world really a game?

His mental perception detected a light blue crystal nucleus, and hunger and desire rose simultaneously.

Ye You paused, then sprinted towards the crystal nucleus at an extremely fast speed.

The nature of the world is not as important as food.

Although the sunlight still suppressed Ye You, after swallowing the rose’s crystal nucleus, his physical condition had improved to some extent.

Balancing each other out, he could almost return to the speed he had when he first awakened.

Ye You ran along the road, passing by cars that were either smoking or stained with blood.

During the day, zombies hid away.

Survivors in the city would choose to move during the day, either leaving the city along the highway or cautiously searching for supplies in the shops on either side.

Even during the day, the survivors were highly tense.

They dared not make too much noise, and any slight movement would set their hearts racing.

When the survivors saw someone running wildly on the road, they naturally assumed it was an unlucky person being chased by zombies or mutated animals.

    Most chose to hide immediately.

However, some felt a bit of pity seeing that the person running was just a young boy.

The door of a pharmacy opened.

An old Chinese doctor stood at the entrance, not daring to make a sound. He waved vigorously at the young boy running, trying to get him to come inside and hide.

    The boy looked over.

The old doctor felt a surge of joy but also a bit of anxiety. His store only had him and his bedridden wife. If the boy had ill intentions…

Before the thought could fully form, the old doctor saw the boy speed by without slowing down, running past his shop.

    He just… ran past?

When the boy passed by his shop, his expression was filled with confusion and bewilderment, as if he couldn’t understand what the old doctor was doing.

Did the boy think he shouldn’t have extended a helping hand?

    The old doctor sighed lightly.

What a kind-hearted boy, and he had even worried about the boy potentially causing trouble if he hid in the pharmacy.

He hoped the boy would be safe.

【Hahaha, the expression on that NPC’s face was too funny.】

【He definitely didn’t expect that the person he invited in was a zombie.】

【Who wouldn’t love our cute little Zai Zai?】

【I’ve already made a meme! Human: “Zombie Xiao Gege (Xiao – little, Gege – big brother[term of address for an older male not necessarily biological])), come in and play~” .JPG】

The bridge across the river connected two large districts.

Ye You saw from a distance that there was a zombie washing a car on the bridge.

The pale, swollen zombie stood in the middle of the bridge, directing a half-meter thick water column from the river onto a black car.

The cries of children could be heard from inside the car.

A zombie moving during the day, with the ability to control water.

    【Hey, he’s met another zombie with abilities.】

【I’m done for. I just moved the camera to the water-controlling zombie and died on the spot from how ugly it was… Seriously, it’s no wonder the old doctor mistook the streamer for a human. A zombie with such high looks is definitely a rare breed.】

【Will the streamer ally with the water-controlling zombie? I might need to prepare myself mentally first.】

【Don’t you think Zai Zai is looking at that zombie the same way he looked at the Blood Rose?】

    【I get it! That’s the look of a foodie eyeing a feast.】

Ye You attempted to use his mental energy to touch the crystal nucleus in the zombie’s mind, intending to control it as he did with the zombies in the apartment.

    He failed.

His mental energy seemed to hit an invisible barrier, blocked from entering the crystal nucleus.

“Roar—” The Water Zombie let out an angry roar, realizing an intruder had entered its hunting ground.

With its roar, the water column changed direction and attacked Ye You.

Ye You had already stepped onto the bridge, not slowing down as he charged towards the zombie, facing the flying water column head-on.

【The streamer always makes me so scared with his bold moves.】

【What are you scared of? True warriors dare to face ugly zombies head-on!】

【That’s true, but the bridge is the zombie’s home turf. There’s not a single plant nearby, so the streamer’s abilities are completely useless here.】

【Shaking in fear, does this game have a respawn if you die?】

Ye You waved his hand, throwing out the leaves he had picked from the rose vines.

Under Ye You’s control, the leaves met the water column, passing through it slowly like they were being blown by the wind, flying towards the zombie standing in the middle of the bridge.

As the water column crashed down, Ye You lightly tapped his toes, jumping to avoid the attack.

The water column struck the bridge, splashing water everywhere.

“Roar—” The Water Zombie roared again, and multiple water columns rose from the river, attacking Ye You simultaneously.

Ye You dodged the attacks like he was dancing.

At this moment, the leaves, seemingly blown by the wind, reached the Water Zombie.

The zombie paid no attention to the slow-flying leaves, casually swatting them away as they tried to block its vision.

With its vision clear, the Water Zombie saw its nimble counterpart smirking at it.

The Water Zombie was about to let out a mocking roar when it suddenly realized its legs were entangled.

Looking down, it saw the rapidly growing rose vines.

The water on the bridge substituted for soil, providing the nutrients needed for the rose vines to grow.

Dark green rose vines climbed up the Water Zombie’s neck.
