Destroy Apollo

Destroy Apollo: Chapter 8

Chapter 8: Epilogue

“I’m innocent; I haven’t done anything wrong. You judge this, judge that… but when you took over Planet M1, I was only a few days old!”

The man in front of me was visibly agitated, his face flushed.

I shrugged. “Precisely because you were just a newborn, you didn’t have to fear for your life, and you’ve safely lived to this day. You don’t worry about food or shelter, you don’t need to work, you can just live peacefully and then pass away. I honestly don’t see anything wrong with that.”

“But you’ve locked me in a museum, letting women come to view me like a monkey in a zoo! You’ve deprived me of my freedom!”

“Well… you’re aware you’re the only man on Ophir Star, right? Not having to work and still getting to eat—others would love to have that privilege.”

For a moment, his face twisted in frustration. “You know I’m the only man on Ophir Star, and you still treat me like this? Are you trying to end humanity? If it goes extinct, it’ll be all your fault!”

I almost laughed at the absurdity.

“What makes you think humanity would go extinct without you?”

“Without men, Ophir Star is full of women. Can any of you have a child on your own? Without reproduction, humans will obviously go extinct,” he scoffed.

Inwardly, I sneered. Truly, he was born this foolish, unreasonable, and incapable of rational conversation.

I shook my head. “Seems it was a mistake to even educate you. I’d suggest reading fewer books from the Old Era—you’re still lost in the delusions of male dominance, aren’t you?

Even in the Old Era, the genetic material provided by men for reproduction was negligible; and, besides, humanity’s views on reproduction from back then are long outdated.

Ophir Star can reproduce and thrive just fine, without men.”

The technology for two-women reproduction and artificial wombs had already matured; Frida and Greta’s daughter was now an adult, healthy and sharp-minded.

As a precaution in the past, we had secretly established a sperm bank on Ophir Star 1, the former Planet M5. But now, it was unnecessary; the sperm bank had been shut down and destroyed.

Casually, I said, “Since he misses the Old Era so much, let him experience life as an imperial eunuch.”

I ignored his impotent fury and left that pristine, empty prison. Boarding a starship, I headed for Ophir Star 1 to attend the opening ceremony of the Blue Star History Museum.

Apollo’s system is a colossal entity with parts beyond our current scientific understanding. So, after severing all human connections with Apollo, Gaia extracted its Old Era database and gave it to the Blue Star Institute for research into Blue Star’s past—its human history, animals, plants, natural landscapes, and more.

The Apollo system itself, purely as a tool and kept as a high-security asset, continued to be researched in secrecy.

The Old Era Museum had been reorganized and divided into sections like the Blue Star History Museum, Blue Star Geographic Park, and Blue Star Botanical Garden.

Previously, exhibitions at the Old Era Museum had revolved around major events chosen by male representatives as icons of that time.

They believed the progression from slavery to feudalism, from monarchy to parliament, was a glorious leap forward. But we saw it as superficial.

If we were to remain trapped in that old order, we—or rather, they—would never find a true path forward. At best, they might claim a slice of the pie during a period of technological boom; that sounds appealing, but once technology stagnated, resources dwindled, and innovation stalled, as scarcity replaced abundance, they’d be easily kicked out.

If we remained bound by that old order, the fog of class distinctions would still confuse the masses. It could never explain why even a man at the very bottom could sometimes attack a woman of high standing, even if she were the president.

But thankfully, those days are over.

In the new exhibition, we focus on the seeds of a new order that took root during the Old Era. We focus on those who, even in the darkest times, lifted the torch high.

The ten locations I once experienced have been recreated almost exactly in the immersive zone. No longer confined to the small holographic pod in Greta’s humble studio, the museum’s technology now allows visitors to experience everything as if they were truly there.

The immense cycle of blood that once filled me with unease day and night has finally faded into a faint shadow. I’ve come to understand each of their smiles, anger, hatred, tears, and hopes.

They hoped for an order for women.

So, what is an order for women? An order for women means that—

I cannot guarantee that a girl born and raised on Ophir Star will have a life free from hardship. She will inevitably face both success and failure; she will work with and compete against others; she will experience love and hatred, taste joy, and endure pain.

But I can guarantee that she will not suffer malice, harm, scorn, injustice, or tribulation simply because of her gender—just because she is female, without any other reason.

The utopias of the Old Era, those perfect words like “ideal state” and “utopia,” held no place for women as people, only for women as tools.

But on Ophir Star—

We crossed through a sea of blood belonging to our enemies and reached the far shore, where women are fully human, and being human is no longer exclusive to men.

TN:

I wish this had been a full length novel. The concept is very good and the execution is also great. It’s giving the Amazons and Ophir is their Themyscira. I would have liked to see a more in-depth and detailed story-telling of how they overthrew Apollo and established the new world order. This feels more like a draft or chapter summaries than an actual story.
