Genius Mechanic: Chapter 208
Slared Contaminated Zone(Star Alliance Mission)
208. Sit Back and Watch Tigers Fight.
Proofread by Cloud Chip Cake and An Zheee
On Slared’s ice layer, all the mecha pilots, who were closely monitoring KID, instinctively looked towards the underground location when the radar signals appeared. They were surprised to discover that Sink’s coordinates had suddenly shifted significantly—from the original depth of 318 meters to a new location several kilometers away at a depth of nearly 200 meters, overlapping with Trace and Yan’s coordinates.
Upon seeing this change, the teams surrounding the ice layer halted. Alice, who had been digging, paused and glanced at the new set of coordinates. “It changed.”
This sudden change left even the other members of Dawn taken aback. The other teams were unaware of the Parasitic Flower’s existence, but Dawn knew about it.
Why had Ying Chenlin suddenly chosen to make such a drastic move? Wen Yi hesitated, and, before he could establish contact with Ying Chenlin underground, Alice, who had been at the bottom of the pit, smashed her Giant Mountain Hammer down and leaped out of the snow pit. She quickly locked onto the new coordinates and rushed towards them.
“Damn it!” Wen Yi’s expression darkened.
On the radar, he saw Alice digging along the vertical path of Sink’s coordinates, while the other SLY mecha pilots continued digging at Trace’s previous coordinates.
In less than 20 minutes, SLY had likely made significant progress on their side. If Alice headed over now, it would probably take less than half an hour for her to reach Ying Chenlin’s current location.
“It’s fine; let them come,” Ying Chenlin’s voice crackled through the communication channel. “But we have to block them from getting here.”
Wen Yi’s Heavy Strike Cannon fired at the snow pit.
Farther away, Qi Sicheng also heard Ying Chenlin’s words. When he locked onto the underground coordinates, he only saw the signals of three mechas—Zhao Lejie and Lin Yao’s signals had disappeared.
At that moment, Alice, who was in the snow pit, looked up and frowned as the other SLY mechas immediately moved towards the two mechas that had arrived later. As they approached, another figure burst out from the snowy peak above. A red and white mecha forcefully joined the battle. Ji Qingfeng shook off the snow on him and called out to Wen Yi and Chi Lizi, “I’m here! Count me in!”
SLY didn’t take the three mechas from Dawn Galaxy seriously. Several mechas flew into the air, intercepting Dawn’s mechas.
Many teams gathered around and paused upon seeing this, seemingly surprised that Dawn would directly declare war on SLY like this.
The situation in Slared’s Snowy Mountains was now fully visible through the restored system. This time, the signals didn’t flicker like before but seemed to have stabilized, continuously transmitting the signals within the entire Contaminated Zone clearly.
Everyone could see the mecha signals directly below the radar and also noticed the vast area of red-colored contamination energy signals underground. Such a massive energy reaction indicated that the situation underground was far from simple.
The reason why KID was fighting so hard to stop SLY was now clear—they were buying time for the mechas underground.
“Dawn knows what’s down there, and they don’t want anyone else going down.”
“I remember they have a displacement weapon, right? They probably don’t dare to use it to come up now, fearing we’ll intercept them.”
“Following KID was the right move. They probably didn’t expect the signals from the Slared Contaminated Zone to suddenly restore when they went underground, did they?”
“Looks like two mecha coordinates are missing from underground.”
“What happened?”
Inside the Dawn spaceship, the first thing they noticed when the signals were restored was the energy-filled underground area.
Amid the vast amount of energy, they couldn’t make out the situation underground clearly—there were traces of pollutants everywhere.
What exactly was down there?
“We’re at a disadvantage,” said Shen Xingtang. “We only have a few mechas, while the stronger teams have multiple.”
Each of them was being closely monitored by a mecha from the stronger teams, making it impossible to break free from their tight grip. It was a deadlock with no apparent solution.
Zhang Ge: “Lao Zhao and Lin Yao’s coordinates have disappeared. Does that have anything to do with this?”
The leader of Black Crow responded, “This is bad. Alice’s coordinates keep going down. If she breaks through to the underground—”
Then all the mechas in the Snowy Mountains would have free access to the underground.
Shen Xingtang felt this was an unsolvable situation. The difference in strength was too great, as was the disparity in the number of mechas. What exactly was Ying Chenlin planning? What was he plotting?!
—
The interception by Dawn’s three mechas was ineffective against SLY’s numerically superior mechas. As time ticked by, Alice’s hammer had already broken through to the underground. When she smashed through a particular area, several tentacles lashed out at her, but she didn’t hesitate and smashed them to pieces along with the roots, clearing a path to the underground.
As soon as the passage opened, Alice felt a cold blast of air. The SLY mecha pilots quickly retreated and charged underground. As they did, three GBK mechas, following Bai Xuyan’s orders, closely followed and also entered the underground.
Once inside, everyone immediately noticed the overwhelming cold. Thin layers of ice seemed to form around several mechas almost instantly. Seeing this, SLY’s Tank immediately activated its shield for defense.
“This place is freezing,” SLY’s Tank pilot remarked. “A very strange cold current.”
Alice raised an eyebrow slightly, seemingly surprised by the situation. “Strange, their movements aren’t slow.”
She noticed that KID’s mecha coordinates were only about a thousand meters ahead of them. “Ignore the environment and move towards Sink’s position.”
There were intense energy reactions all around, and many of the upright ice pillars had toppled over, yet there were no traces of ice on the ground.
As Alice moved forward through the cold air, she noticed the environment growing increasingly frigid and the area littered with signs of destruction—clear evidence of a battle having taken place.
Seeing this, she became more certain of her suspicions as she gradually closed in on Sink’s coordinates.
The moment her spotlight illuminated Sink’s mecha, KID’s Medical and Artillery’s firepower immediately focused on them. Noticing the abnormal cold, Alice decided not to leave the Tank’s protective range and ordered, “Suppress them with artillery fire.”
SLY’s Artillery carried fire-based weapons, which proved extremely effective in this environment.
As soon as the two sides came into view, a fierce battle erupted. The intensity of the attack escalated, and just then, Alice suddenly heard something shatter above her. Unlike the sound of breaking ice, this was more like the sound of an object breaking. Sticky liquid rained down from above, splattering onto several SLY mechas and those that had followed. When it hit the SLY Tank’s shield, it instantly froze into ice.
Alice immediately realized something was wrong. “What is this?”
Bai Xuyan heard feedback from a GBK teammate, “Liquid?”
He was all too familiar with this situation. Seeing it, he immediately switched to the underground view, but all he could see was a sea of red energy and pollutant reactions. There was no way to lock onto the pollutants or the energy situation. He coldly ordered, “Clean off the liquid immediately and reduce the energy reactions.”
Energy fluid attracted pollutants—KID was using the same old trick.
However, they had prepared special cleaning fluid in advance to counter this tactic.
“…Vice-Captain Bai,” a GBK mecha pilot reported, “we can’t clean it off underground. We’ll be frozen.”
Bai Xuyan replied, “That’s special energy—it won’t freeze.”
The GBK mecha pilot insisted, “No, Captain Bai, our mecha energy is showing signs of freezing. Right now, we’re only holding out because of the Tank’s shield—”
Energy freeze?! Bai Xuyan hadn’t even processed the GBK pilot’s words when another wave of attacks disrupted his command, a coordinated strike by Ke Lin and Lu Xi, throwing his team into disarray.
“Your opponent is us,” Ke Lin said. “Staying here, do you still have time to chat with others, Captain Bai?”
Bai Xuyan frowned slightly at this provocation. That same feeling again, just like when dealing with them back in Coria—this Dawn team was always plotting something.
In the depths of Slared, as everyone struggled against the cold currents, artillery fire once again pressed forward from the front. Each shell hit the ice pillars surrounding the SLY mechas with precise accuracy. At this moment, Alice noticed the buzzing sound of vibrating wings nearby. A large number of tendrils suddenly surged forward, fiercely attacking the mechas and emitting enticing energy signals on the field!
Pairs of eerie Ice Crow eyes appeared from unknown locations. The plant-like tendrils, angered by the destroyed ice pillars, turned their moves sharply towards the culprits at the center of the destruction.
“This ice—” Alice’s feet were frozen to the icy surface, and her expression shifted slightly. “We’ve fallen into a trap. Artillery, fire the Heat Gun!”
With a hiss, the special heat source lit up, pushing back against the cold from below.
Alice noticed that the distance between KID and her team was increasing. “Close in on KID! They have a way to handle these. Close the gap!”
Under Huo Yan’s cover, Ying Chenlin continued advancing deeper. They braved the cold, with their energy levels dropping even lower. Ying Chenlin glanced at the increasing number of Ice Crows in the pit; with so many pollutant ice pillars in the cavern, there couldn’t possibly be only one or two ice crows because it was impossible for them to freeze all over.
They had only disturbed two Ice Crows along their path, indicating that the closer they got to the location of the Parasitic Flower, the fewer pollutants there would be around. Clearly, most of the pollutants chose not to approach that strange abyss of ice layers.
The radar showed red energy signals indicating that the underground held great allure. With the Parasitic Flower and Ice Crows present, it suggested that even more pollutants inhabited the underground. As long as the commotion was big enough and the destruction thorough enough, it would inevitably provoke the species lurking underground.
Huo Yan said, “They’ll definitely notice the energy fluid.”
“It doesn’t matter, as long as they’re a bigger target than us.” Ying Chenlin quickly locked onto the position behind him, once again knocking down an ice pillar beside him. He aimed to throw the entire underground into chaos; if these people wanted to follow, they’d better be able to keep up.
The moment a large number of mechas descended, they were immediately trapped by the environment. Without the Tank’s protective shield, it was difficult to stand firm in this area.
As they halted, the approaching Ice Crows swiftly attacked in their direction. These pollutants, capable of rapid freezing with a flap of their wings, were hidden throughout the underground, seemingly disturbed by the uninvited guests.
Those mechas following closely behind SLY and GBK, without Tank cover, found themselves frozen in place almost immediately. They had no choice but to call out to their teammates above the ice layer, “Something’s off in the ice cave! We’re frozen in place! We’re under attack from a large number of ice-type pollutants!”
However, the situation inside was far more complex than they had anticipated. Almost every mecha that descended from the cave entrance was attacked at some point during the pursuit, as the entire underground network of tendrils seemed to erupt in fury.
One by one, ice pillars were shot down from a distance by Ying Chenlin and You Su, destroying the “food storage” of the plant tendrils. Enraged, the tendrils launched a wide-range attack on the mechas that had entered the cave. Moreover, some pollutants that had been lurking there were driven by the plant tendrils to lock onto these invading destroyers.
Huo Yan noticed SLY’s response. “They’ve caught on.”
“I know,” Ying Chenlin nodded. “They’ll follow us.”
Since the strong teams dared to enter this place, they must have had means of survival, especially knowing they were being set up. Their strategy would be to close the distance between them and their targets.
As expected, the strong teams’ mechas were initially thrown into disarray by the attacks, but they quickly recovered. Those with shields activated them, while those without used fire-based weapons to mitigate the energy freeze. Once stabilized, all the mechas rapidly advanced towards Ying Chenlin and the others, with SLY closing the gap with KID’s three mechas the fastest.
A pursuit battle unfolded within the ice cave, and as the strong teams used their weapons extensively, unfamiliar energy signals spread through the underground, drawing more pollutants towards them.
Ice Crows, Ice Serpents… A large number of pollutants emerged from unknown corners, joining the angry tendrils in attacking the strong teams. Alice frowned slightly; seeing this, she immediately understood KID’s intention—they wanted to provoke the pollutants here to ease the pursuit. However, she found their strategy too naïve.
To them, these pollutants posed no obstacle at all.
Alice smashed down a pollutant that had flown in front of her; her mountain hammer crushed its body instantly. She remained unfazed and purposefully closed in on KID’s position. “Ignore them.”
“They probably knew there were many pollutants underground and wanted to use us to draw them away,” Alice chuckled lightly. “But they underestimated me; these pollutants are no threat to us.”
Ying Chenlin saw the mechas catching up from behind, his expression unchanged. He glanced at the radar coordinates and noticed that mechas both below and above the ice layer were closing in on their position. These strong teams didn’t have complete information on the pollutants, and with no information sharing, they had only locked onto KID as their primary target.
Wen Yi shouted in the channel, “Ying Chenlin, a few more mechas have descended.”
Ying Chenlin asked, “Did they all come down?”
Wen Yi noticed some mechas hovering in the distance. They were moving along with the coordinates but hadn’t ventured down. Apart from the first wave that went underground, most of the stronger teams weren’t engaging SLY and GBK head-on but instead were waiting above for an opportunity. “No, some teams are observing.”
Ying Chenlin let out a brief “oh,” seeming a bit disappointed. He instructed, “Then fly slower, and come down in 15 minutes.”
Chi Lizi asked, “What do we need to do?”
“Clear out the storage bins in advance.” Ying Chenlin once again aimed at an ice pillar in the cave, which fell like an obstacle at the feet of SLY and the other mechas, surrounded by a large number of dead pollutants. “Don’t forget to collect the spoils; I’ll leave that to you.”
He added as an afterthought, “Oh, and remember to keep warm.”
Ji Qingfeng responded, “Got it.”
Wen Yi and Chi Lizi were still a bit confused by Ying Chenlin’s instructions until 15 minutes later, when they entered the ice cave. The frigid cold hit them instantly, and the three mechas immediately understood the need to keep warm. Just a few steps in, they saw a chaotic scene in the cave, with dead pollutants and blocks of ice containing frozen pollutants scattered everywhere.
Ji Qingfeng instantly understood, and without hesitation, began collecting the pollutants on the ground. “Chi Lizi, don’t just stand there—help out!”
Spurred on by Ji Qingfeng’s shout, Chi Lizi quickly joined in.
Wen Yi: “…?”
Further away, other mechas focused their sights on the ice layer beneath Slared, where a large fluctuation of pollutants was occurring at the coordinates of KID and the other teams. This surge in pollutant activity was relayed through Slared’s system, reaching the eyes of every strong team.
“Significant pollutant activity beneath Slared.”
“So many pollutants…? Is the objective over there?”
“SLY has moved in.”
“KID won’t be able to escape!”
At the same time, in the Volcanic region, E.M received information from behind. The man observing the underground situation frowned deeply. The surrounding mecha pilots were visibly moved; the intense pollutant reactions mirrored the information they had received, suggesting that the target location was indeed near the Snowy Mountains.
An E.M mecha pilot urged, “Captain, at this rate, KID will soon be surrounded by SLY and GBK.”
Their goal was to have the strong teams wear each other down. SLY and GBK would inevitably clash, and PJT, who had already reached the vicinity of the Snowy Mountains, would likely join the fray. Now that Slared’s system was back online, the situation underground had become totally clear.
“If we head over now,” the mecha pilot suggested, “everyone will be distracted by SLY and GBK, and we can swoop in to clean up.”
E.M’s captain stared at the map, his expression showing some hesitation.
Just then, they saw SLY catching up to KID, and suddenly, KID shifted positions!
During the chase in the ice cave, Alice closed the gap and noticed the roots bound to Ying Chenlin’s body but saw nothing else taken. As she approached, she swung her Giant Mountain Hammer fiercely at Ying Chenlin, who narrowly dodged the attack.
At that moment, Ying Chenlin suddenly pulled out the Spatial Displacement Staff.
When Alice saw the Spatial Displacement Staff, she paused momentarily, her gaze shifting among the numerous energy reactions and the Spatial Displacement Staff’s range, locking onto several KID coordinates in the area. The coordinates for KID’s teleportation were either at a high altitude or the three mechas positioned near the entrance at the farthest point.
She immediately shouted, “Get out of range of that weapon!”
The mecha pilots quickly backed off, seemingly worried that Ying Chenlin might teleport them away.
Just then, You Su, who had been watching, tossed out three energy tubes and, alongside Huo Yan, charged outside the Spatial Displacement Staff’s light circle.
Alice’s pupils contracted.
You Su’s eyes were cold, the moment Ying Chenlin activated the teleportation, he fired his cannon fiercely at the energy tubes.
The instant the red light vanished, a massive explosion erupted underground.
Ji Qingfeng and the others, who were far from the explosion’s center and still busy collecting pollutants, turned around at the commotion and saw Ying Chenlin teleporting with two mechas to their side. As they landed, the three of them bore visible scorch marks.
“The path she dug seems decent; she’s quite formidable,” Ying Chenlin said, powering up his thrusters and locking onto the tunnel SLY had dug. “Done collecting? We’re heading up.”
The rumbling of explosions echoed from the depths of the ice cave. Wen Yi glanced at Ying Chenlin, who appeared calm and collected. “Why did you make that move?”
“We’re no longer the primary target.”
Ying Chenlin casually picked up the remains of a pollutant from the ground and said softly, “Let the strong teams tear each other apart; isn’t it nice to sit back and watch the tigers fight?”
