Genius Mechanic: Chapter 214

Slared Contaminated Zone(Star Alliance Mission)

214. An Encirclement by Powerful Enemies.

Proofread by Cloud Chip Cake and An Zheee

Energy conversion!? Self-enhancement? Or is it an anomalous crystal not yet recorded in the Star Alliance’s database?

“What about the function of those tendrils?” the adjutant asked the staff.

“They’re not just tendrils. Inside them is likely residual energy that we couldn’t detect from the surface before. These plant tendrils only work when driven by the core energy. According to the data, it seems to be a sub-root of the reserve-S-Level pollutant located near the Dawn Galaxy’s team,” the staff member said, pulling up a virtual data screen to demonstrate the results of the research institute’s urgent analysis.

“As soon as Slared‘s system was restored, we sent the anomalous energy readings from Slared’s underground to the institute. Based on their short-term analysis, this is what they’ve come up with.”

The data simulation showed that energy from various parts of Slared was being absorbed by the special plant tendrils. After absorption, the energy gradually converged at the core of the underground pollutant, where it was transferred and then redistributed, forming a unique growth cycle for the pollutant.

Because the tendrils covered such a wide area, the energy flowing through them became one of the primary sources of Slared’s underground anomalies.

As the demonstration played, both the commander’s and the adjutant’s faces grew grim.

“With this much energy being absorbed, why did it fail to evolve?” the adjutant pondered.

The commander’s focus remained on the energy. “Is this pollutant the reason Slared has been out of control for ten years? It shouldn’t have evolved to this stage back then, right?”

“That’s exactly what puzzles us. Slared’s anomaly is widespread, and there are likely details we haven’t uncovered.”

The staff relayed the research team’s speculations: “The institute suggests it might be related to the volcanic rock beneath Slared. We’ve also found traces of energy within the land and ice layers covered by the pollutant. The volcanic rock had the ability to absorb energy, and this pollutant siphons energy from various organisms. During the process of transferring energy from the roots to the core, there might have been some energy leakage due to environmental factors.”

“A large amount of energy leakage would have a significant impact on the environment within the Contaminated Zone. The wider the area covered by the plant tendrils, the greater the effect…” The adjutant glanced at the commander. “We previously investigated abnormal growth patterns in the Contaminated Zone’s pollutants, which might be related to this pollutant’s core.”

The commander took the data tablet from the staff and gravely examined the energy conversion process. “The energy it’s converting is different from normal energy; the energy it leaks is quite unique.”

Energy like this, capable of causing such abnormal growth in pollutants over ten years…

He turned to the staff. “How many personnel from the research institute are involved in this?”

The staff member hesitated and replied cautiously, “Because it’s an unprecedented type of energy, several research labs at the institute have been applying to access the data…”

The adjutant looked at the commander. “This could be trouble. Other Star Domains might already be aware. The Slared Contaminated Zone is currently classified as a mission area…”

“Contact the administrative officer at the Star Alliance’s headquarters and report the energy’s information. Request early termination rights for the Star Alliance Special Mission.”

The commander massaged his temples in frustration. Seeing the adjutant about to leave, he said coldly, “By the way, request the deployment of the Third Star Domain’s Frontier Army.”

As the adjutant left, the commander’s gaze shifted to the closest mecha signals, “——Dawn Galaxy of the First Star Domain.”

While the Star Alliance Central Command was reporting the energy, at that very moment, all the mecha base ships stationed outside the Slared Defense Line suddenly started up. This sudden movement immediately raised alarms aboard the Dawn ship.

Gale’s Captain, ever alert to the situation in the cockpit, immediately reported to Zhang Ge when he saw the other starships activating.

Dawn’s crew had been brainstorming strategies for dealing with the gathering of the powerful enemies on Slared. Hearing the sudden stir outside, they sprang into action, noticing that several starships, especially the top five from the Star Alliance, were all heading towards the direction of the abandoned Slared Management Bureau.

Gale’s Captain: “Should we follow? The E.M starship moved, but the others haven’t made a move yet.”

“Follow it,” Zhang Ge replied. “We need to figure out what the other teams are up to. We can’t let them blindside us.”

Shen Xingtang stood by the window, observing that the departing starships belonged to some of the top-ranked teams from various Star Domains, most of them within the top ten of the Star Alliance rankings. In contrast, the other teams were in the same situation as theirs. “Wait… something’s off.”

It seemed like those starships had suddenly received orders to take off.

Shen Xingtang hurriedly turned around. “Simiao, what’s the status of the top teams’ coordinates?”

“No changes—” Jiang Simiao responded, then suddenly realized something. “Wait, something’s wrong. The mecha signals from some top teams moving toward the Snowy Mountains area have increased. E.M and WHG have already reached the Snowy Mountains region. Xingtang, the situation’s bad!”

Powerful enemies surrounded them, and the top teams’ stances had changed.

In the Snowy Mountains of Slared, the actions of the top teams suddenly accelerated. The changes in directions of the top five Star Alliance mecha made all those monitoring their coordinates tense up, and discussions broke out. Several teams on Star Alliance missions had heard special intelligence about the Slared Contaminated Zone and had been watching closely. Previously, only a small squad from the top five teams had been moving, but suddenly, more mechas were being deployed, all heading for the Snowy Mountains region.

All eyes were now on the Snowy Mountains area of Slared. The key issue was the change in attitude from the top teams. The arrival of E.M and WHG posed a significant challenge for GBK and SLY, meaning their competition had now reached the same starting point as these two powerful teams.

When WHG and E.M arrived, some elite forces from SLY and GBK had also made it.

The atmosphere around the Snowy Mountains suddenly grew tense, and many teams who had no interest in competing voluntarily withdrew from the area.

“No way I’m sticking around! The top five teams are about to fight, and the top ten are on their way! Who wants to be cannon fodder?”

“Wait! The people underground from the Dawn Galaxy haven’t escaped yet!”

“WHG has spatial displacement capabilities. As long as they confirm the underground teleportation coordinates, they can reach them in two displacements.”

“There’s a mecha from Dawn that’s broken off from their team. Could they be trying to use spatial displacement to escape too?”

Above the ice, E.M’s distinctive gray-green mecha hovered, with no other mechas nearby. The major teams watched each other warily.

E.M’s mecha pilots glanced at their captain, who was calmly observing the chaos of the Dawn Galaxy’s underground coordinates. Dawn had previously tricked the other teams, so they had some basic understanding of Dawn’s displacement weapons, knowing they could move based on their teammates’ target points. This lone mecha’s movement was eerily similar to their previous displacements.

E.M’s captain, watching the mecha on the map, spoke a few words to his subordinate pilots. While in flight, two mechas veered off in a different direction. “We need to see what Dawn is up to. Let WHG take the lead.”

Inside the ice cave, GBK and Dawn’s four mechas were still entangled in battle. The damage to Dawn’s mechas continued to rise, but they held their position at the ice break, defending it without yielding an inch.

Ke Lin and Huo Yan refused to give way, but GBK’s attacks only grew fiercer and more determined.

This intense skirmish continued until both sides noticed the growing number of mechas above the ice. GBK’s captain, Claude, furrowed his brows tightly. E.M and WHG had arrived—

Bai Xuyan: “These guys are too tough to deal with.”

His gaze swept over the mecha positions and spotted a faint signal from a mecha labeled ‘QingF’ moving deeper underground, away from the group. “It looks like Dawn is prepared. They’re moving a mecha using displacement.”

On Dawn’s side, Ke Lin gritted his teeth. “We can’t hold them off anymore.”

Hu Luobu was shocked. “Did these guys arrive so quickly!?”

“They’re half an hour ahead of schedule,” Huo Yan said. “But we still have a chance. Let’s see if the strong teams will start fighting.”

Hu Luobu: “Will they really fight?”

“They will, but not all of them,” Ke Lin replied. “The commanders of these top teams will weigh the pros and cons, and they’ll send their elite mechas down.”

Hu Luobu fired off a round, blasting away a Freezing Bomb, and immediately contacted Zhao Lejie underground. As soon as the call connected, it was abruptly cut off.

Ke Lin asked, “What did they say?”

Hu Luobu looked conflicted. “He told us to run now, and to head towards where the most people are.”

The battle underground continued. Over ten of the main roots around the Blue Heart had been severed, and now only two remained tightly attached to it. With its main roots repeatedly cut, the Blue Heart had entered a frenzied state. The entire ice cave beneath the surface was shaking, on the verge of collapse, with roots surging everywhere through the frozen ground.

Zhao Lejie didn’t have time to keep talking with Hu Luobu. When the number of remaining roots dropped to five, the destructive power of the roots had already limited the mobility of the close-combat mechas. He had no choice but to brace his Defensive Shield against the Blue Heart’s edge, fending off attacks from all directions.

Under Zhao Lejie’s shield, the mechas each played their roles in the close-range attack. When You Su and Wen Yi worked together to break open another gap, Ying Chenlin and Lin Yao cut through one more root, leaving the Blue Heart supported only by its last remaining main root.

Zhao Lejie said, “I told Old Hu that we’re not going to pick them up. Let them escape ahead of time, so they don’t get surrounded.”

“The enemy mechas’ signals are already showing up above us.” Qi Sicheng reminded.

Lin Yao: “Qingfeng, how far have you run?”

Ji Qingfeng responded, “The distance is enough. I’m ready to shift.”

Wen Yi: “The change in coordinates is obvious. Even if Ji Qingfeng turns off his signal and activates the cloaking field, the special nature of the Star Alliance’s system will still expose him on the radars. After using the spatial displacement multiple times, those strong teams probably already know.”

Qi Sicheng: “But for now, there’s no weapon that counters spatial displacement, except for WHG’s.”

Not long ago, Ying Chenlin had used spatial displacement to trap a strong team in the ice cave. The opposing side would be wary of the same tactic. By now, the strong teams were likely tracking Ji Qingfeng’s movement and would be on guard for his coordinates.

Spatial displacement weapons could transport both mechas and pollutants at the same time, but there were rules. The living entity being displaced must be within the spatial displacement’s range. If a large part of the entity extends beyond that range, it will be excluded, making displacement impossible. Transporting a large number of pollutants isn’t a problem, but the Blue Heart and all its plant roots belong to the same organism. Its extensive range exceeded the spatial displacement limits.

The only way to move this pollutant was to sever all its main roots, bringing just the Blue Heart itself.

Ji Qingfeng had already reached the designated position. As soon as they cut the last root, they could move the pollutant along with them.

Time was running out, so they would have to buy some extra time during the escape.

But the only variable in this timing was WHG’s displacement weapon. They could displace, and so could WHG. Ying Chenlin had just analyzed WHG’s speed and coordinate shifts, estimating that the displacement range of WHG’s weapon was very close to the Star Alliance’s distance regulation for spatial displacement weapons.

Their coordinates were already exposed, meaning all their actions were visible to the strong teams.

The only advantage was the distance between them and the other strong teams. To reach them from the surface, the strong teams would have to take the same path Alice used. Even though they knew Dawn’s coordinates had shifted, they wouldn’t be able to surround Ji Qingfeng or the others immediately.

As long as they stayed still, this delicate balance wouldn’t be broken.

“Don’t move yet.” Ying Chenlin locked his gaze on the final main root above. It was covered in scars, and just one more strike would be enough to sever it completely. “Wait. Let You Ge land the final blow. Don’t act yet.”

“Lin Yao, Chi Lizi.” Ying Chenlin continued, “When the heart falls, make sure it enters the displacement range immediately.”

You Su slightly raised his gaze, eyeing the swaying Blue Heart, and began charging his cannon in advance. “What are we waiting for?”

Qi Sicheng and Wen Yi also looked at Ying Chenlin.

Ying Chenlin replied, “WHG’s timing.”

Wen Yi looked at Ying Chenlin in confusion. “What if they wait until we regroup with Ji Qingfeng to displace?”

At that moment, WHG’s coordinates suddenly shifted, appearing at the middle level of the ice cave, only 10 kilometers from KID.

Ying Chenlin, calmly watching the coordinates, said unhurriedly, “We’ll wait for them to reach the same starting point as us—or rather, for WHG to come to our position.”
