Genius Mechanic: Chapter 219

Slared Contaminated Zone(Star Alliance Mission)

219. Deal?

Proofread by Cloud Chip Cake and An Zheee

When the E.M Artillery’s damage level reached 75%, E.M’s Medical mecha immediately reported the information to their captain, Alex. However, instead of the damage rate slowing down after reaching 75%, it continued to rise until the radar revealed a ring indicating ‘high damage.’

In this public Contaminated Zone, without the comprehensive real-time monitoring systems of Competition-Level Contaminated Zones, one could only judge the condition of a mecha by, either real-time internal monitoring from their own systems or, by the radar alert that triggers when its damage level reaches the Alliance’s standard of 80%, which sends out a request for rescue.

The mecha pilots, who had been closely monitoring the battle underground from the ice cave, were taken aback when they saw the E.M Artillery’s damage alert pop up. They all turned their attention to the coordinate representing Sink.

This situation exceeded many mecha pilots’ expectations. Although the E.M twins were not yet official members of E.M’s first team, they were undefeated in matches within E.M’s galaxy. Yet, now, under the twins’ seamless cooperation, Sink had taken less than an hour to destroy one of their mechas.

“The twins are out already!?”

“Sink didn’t use any spatial displacement, aside from that ability. It seems like he only used one weapon, right?”

“What kind of weapon is that? The twins’ weapons can counter both close and long range attacks, and they even suppressed Sink’s Spatial Displacement… How did they lose under those conditions?”

The gazes of many strong teams turned serious. They were aware of Sink’s strength and knew why E.M had chosen to target him at this stage.

Sink, the former Star Alliance Individual Soldier Champion, had retired at 18 due to an injury and had been inactive for two years before switching to team combat as a Medical mecha pilot.

They had seen Sink’s profile countless times on the StarNet or in their team databases, but Sink’s current strength exceeded the information they had. It wasn’t just about his power—it was something beyond their comprehension. Many teams began sending updates back to their own bases, knowing that Sink, still in the Dawn Galaxy, had already secured a spot in the Star Domain Tournament, and they would likely meet him in the Star Alliance Competition.

Wu Qingshuang paused when she saw this, having paid special attention to Sink’s movements. “Wait, is that S-Class Individual Soldier mecha fully modified?”

E.M’s Artillery was certainly strong, even stronger than some of the Artillery mechas in major teams. Even when faced with a Individual Soldier mecha pilot who could completely outclass them in awareness and technique, they shouldn’t have been eliminated this quickly. Based on the timing and positioning, something didn’t quite add up.

“It’s not fully modified,” Huo Yan replied without hiding anything. “It still has a Medical mecha’s core system, while the weapon damage threshold is at an Individual Soldier Mecha’s level.”

This mecha hadn’t yet passed the Alliance’s certification, as the modifications were incomplete. It couldn’t be used in official tournaments, but there was no rule against using it in Star Alliance Special Missions.

In Wu Qingshuang’s understanding, very few dared to tamper with S-Class mechas. Modifying an S-Class mecha was extremely difficult, and only a handful of top mecha designers in the Star Alliance could successfully handle the basic modifications for such mechas. Modifying it carried the high risk of causing it to lose its intelligence and drop to an A-Class Competition Level Mecha.

When she noticed the S-Class signal from the mecha Yuan, she assumed that the mysterious mecha master from KID had fully converted it into a Medical mecha. She hadn’t expected that the mecha was still incomplete!

Although the rest of the Dawn Galaxy team didn’t explicitly say it, Wu Qingshuang was deeply shocked. Currently, the success rate for S-Class mecha modifications in the First Star Domain was only 25%, and in other parts of the Star Alliance, the best mecha masters could only achieve 35%. The modification process required a unified system with no mid-process adjustments.

To carry out such extensive modifications on an S-Class mecha, and a cross-specialization modification at that, the mecha designer behind KID was extraordinarily bold. Every mecha pilot knew how difficult it was to modify an S-Class mecha. Yet, not only did KID’s mecha designer dare to alter one, but they also had the audacity to let Sink take this incomplete mecha into battle!

She had originally thought that Sink’s mecha simply hadn’t had time to be reviewed by the Alliance, hence the lack of data. But now, it turned out that Yuan was merely an unfinished, modified mecha.

What did this indicate? It showed that the designer who modified the mecha Yuan had a completely different approach, and the technology behind it could very well lead to a revolution in S-Class mecha modification techniques.

Alex’s estimation was wrong. The base power of Individual Soldier weapons is far higher than that of a Medical mecha. The single-hit damage was intimidating enough to throw the undefeated twin team into disarray. If he had used a Medical’s weapons, the fight might have dragged on for another hour, but with Individual Soldier weapons, Sink was essentially playing a 1v2 in a domain he was well-versed in. E.M’s risky move failed when it came to Sink.

“The E.M twins are down one, so doesn’t that mean E.M is about to get wiped out?”

“Yeah, E.M now only has a Stealth mecha left, and it has to protect its teammate too. E.M is retreating early.”

“So that leaves only WHG and GBK!?”

“WHG has a better chance. While not all of their five mechas are piloted by top-tier mecha pilots, they still have the numbers.”

Sink’s destruction of an E.M mecha briefly relieved everyone at Dawn, but they quickly became tense again.

E.M only sent two mechas underground. These two barely held an advantage over SLY’s Alice but were far inferior to the other two teams. If it weren’t for WHG and GBK’s numerical advantage in mechas, E.M wouldn’t have risked capturing Sink ahead of the other two teams, trying to regain the upper hand.

This time, they were lucky that most of E.M’s forces hadn’t gone underground. If Aegis and PJT hadn’t intercepted E.M in time, with those twins so adept at coordinating captures, they could have overwhelmed Sink. No matter how strong Sink’s abilities were, it would be hard for him to resist a group battle against multiple mechas.

Now, E.M’s plan was essentially dismantled, but the threat underground wasn’t just from E.M.

Ke Lin’s gaze landed at the bottom of Slared. Chairman Li Jingyan would still take time to arrive, and no information had come in regarding the termination of the Star Alliance Special Mission. If this dragged on, their Medical mecha won’t be able to repair much more damage. Even if they had enough energy, the remaining three teams’ mechas underground would wear them down.

“Chenlin is now at the midpoint, equidistant from Lin Yao and Captain Qi,” Ke Lin continued. “He can teleport back to Captain Qi’s position, but they no longer have the target advantage they had before.”

Outside the Slared Defense Line, the heads of several mecha bases had locked onto Sink.

In front of the E.M coaching team, aside from the known damage information, they pulled up the S-Class mecha page from the Star Alliance’s mission system. The blank data page for the mecha made several coaches look grim, and emergency repair personnel had been called in.

E.M’s head coach asked, “Does the First Star Domain have this kind of mecha technology?”

“No, we’ve investigated the well-known mecha masters, and none of them have published any relevant technical papers.”

The head of the maintenance department aboard the starship said, “From the information we have, there’s currently no record of such semi-modified S-Class mecha technology. None of the technology masters in other Star Domains have any related data. The mecha Sink is using still bears Yuan’s insignia, indicating it shares a lineage with the original Individual Soldier mecha Yuan. There’s no possibility of Sink having a second S-Class mecha… From the information we currently have, this technology is highly likely to come from the designer behind KID.”

Dawn Galaxy—

In the past two years, the most famous event in this galaxy was the component reform, and now, there was this strange S-Class mecha modification technology. Both were linked to KID, or rather, someone behind KID pulling the strings. Is this small mecha base, apart from Sink, really hiding so many other talented individuals?

Inside Slared’s ice cave, the Flowing Fire Sword of the red-and-white mecha was still poised at the neck of E.M’s Artillery. Even though the blue warning circle indicating 80% damage had already popped up, if the fight continued, the energy reserves for the protective barrier would eventually run out, leaving its last layer of defense futile.

E.M’s Stealth had no choice. When the Artillery was destroyed, E.M’s entire plan collapsed. Their strategy to ambush and take down their opponents one by one could no longer proceed.

With their teammate in Sink’s hands, E.M’s Stealth couldn’t escape. “What do you want?”

“You were the ones who ambushed me, and now you’re asking me?”

Ying Chenlin didn’t loosen his grip on E.M’s Artillery. “After ambushing me, what was your plan? To wear me down, dismantle the storage compartment, and search for something?”

E.M’s Stealth was taken aback, his eyes fixed on his teammate. “No, we’d force you to hand it over. If you were really unwilling, only then would we take drastic measures.”

“Did you ever consider the consequences of failure?” Ying Chenlin moved the Flowing Fire Sword downward, hovering it over E.M’s Artillery’s storage compartment, as if ready to act at any moment.

Sweat beaded on E.M’s Stealth’s forehead; they couldn’t afford to relax. “There’s nothing else in our storage compartment. Even if you dismantle it, it won’t help you.”

“Is it empty?” Ying Chenlin asked.

E.M’s Stealth hesitated, fearing a misstep. “…Not exactly empty.”

Ying Chenlin said, “How about we make a deal?”

E.M’s Stealth asked, “What kind of deal?”

“I’ll let you go in exchange for two conditions.” Ying Chenlin tapped the E.M Artillery’s storage compartment with the Flowing Fire Sword through the protective barrier. “First, everything in this storage compartment goes to me. Second, you serve as a target for one hour.”

The E.M Stealth pilot’s face turned pale with shame, rejecting him without a second thought. “The first condition is fine, but I can’t agree to the second.”

They couldn’t seize resources from Dawn and now had to help them escape? Such a humiliating task was too much.

“His mecha is damaged, and you guys can’t control my displacement remotely.” Ying Chenlin’s gaze fell on the radar, pinpointing the coordinates of E.M’s captain. His tone was calm. “Your people can’t get down here for now, and I can abandon this mecha deeper inside the ice cave at any time.”

E.M’s Stealth’s heart sank at Ying Chenlin’s words. In an environment like this, with volcanic rock at the bottom, the mecha’s energy would continue to deplete or get absorbed by the rocks. If his teammate were thrown somewhere else, they might not reach them before their mecha’s energy ran out.

At that moment, a communication from E.M’s captain, Alex, came through.

Ying Chenlin had been using external speakers, but now, he received a communication request from E.M’s captain, Alex.

“Captain—” E.M’s Stealth started to speak but was immediately cut off by Alex.

The moment Alex spoke, E.M’s Stealth, Milo, fell silent.

Alex’s voice was steady, with the commanding presence of someone in power, much like the senior officers Ying Chenlin had encountered in the Frontier Army. However, Alex’s voice was younger than those frontier officers.

Just from his voice, Ying Chenlin suspected Alex, like Huo Yan, had also spent time at the frontier.

“Sink, what deal do you want to make?” Alex asked.

Ying Chenlin replied, “Two storage compartments and one hour as a target.”

E.M’s Stealth couldn’t help but interject, “You just said one storage compartment!”

“How come you’re raising the price now?!”

“I changed my mind,” Ying Chenlin glanced at the communication signal showing Alex’s connection. “He can’t make the decision. Can you?”

Alex: “Even without making a deal with us, you can still leave this place.”

“We’re in a hurry,” Ying Chenlin continued, “You can choose not to deal with me.”

E.M’s Stealth was getting anxious. “Captain, I can still—”

“Alright,” Alex said, “But I have a condition.”

Ying Chenlin frowned slightly. “What condition?”

“Two storage compartments, one hour as a target,” Alex continued. “You have to guarantee the safety of our two mechas and ensure they can get out smoothly.”

Ying Chenlin: “Oh, I’ll do my best.”

Alex said: “Milo.”

Reluctantly, E.M’s Stealth established the target link with Ying Chenlin.

After speaking, Alex exited the channel without further communication.

As Alex listened to the young man’s voice in the channel, he noticed how his tone was mismatched with the adept maneuvering displayed. His voice carried a youthful inexperience, yet there was an unexplainable clarity. Dawn dared to propose a deal at this moment, which meant Ying Chenlin was certain of his advantage.

“Captain, I can still fight him,” E.M’s Stealth continued in the private channel.

“He’s holding back, and the energy crystal is most likely not on him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be negotiating with us,” Alex’s voice remained flat. “Sink is highly skilled. It’s more advantageous for us if the special energy ends up in the First Star Domain rather than in WHG or GBK’s hands. Do you understand?”

The powerful Star Domains were in constant competition with one another, and among the five great Star Domains, only the First Star Domain had the weakest mecha technology.

Regardless of the energy’s potential, if it fell into one of the other dominant Star Domains that competed with E.M., it would be much harder to acquire the core’s information. But it was different with the First Star Domain. If they wanted to keep advancing, they would undoubtedly trade the energy information for something more beneficial with the other strong Star Domains. If it landed in the Third Star Domain, where WHG was located, or the Second Star Domain, where GBK was based, it would be bad news for E.M. The best outcome would be for it to fall into the First Star Domain, which would make future power struggles easier to navigate.

Ying Chenlin’s gaze lingered for a moment on Alex’s signal before he withdrew the mental power enveloping his mecha, suppressing the fatigue building in his mind. He didn’t release his grip on the mecha. “Stealth, I didn’t tell you to disengage. Just maintain a 30-kilometer distance from me. If you disobey, I’ll toss your teammate.”

E.M’s Stealth gritted his teeth. “I’m not someone who goes back on their word.”

“Oh, that’s for the best. GBK is on their way.” Ying Chenlin looked at the map and noticed the mecha signals approaching. “Just wait a little longer.”

E.M’s Stealth noticed this and asked, “Aren’t you in a hurry to save your teammates?”

“No rush,” Ying Chenlin glanced at the coordinates ahead on the map, his gaze fixed on Trace. “It’s not time yet.”

The situation in Slared’s underground remained tense. When Ying Chenlin was captured by E.M., the face of WHG’s captain didn’t look good. Besides Ying Chenlin, there were five other Dawn mechas in front of them, all of which were showing detection information related to the pollutant’s special energy, making it difficult for them to determine which mecha held the energy crystal.

The most concerning thing was whether the anomalous crystal would end up on Sink, and if it did, Alex’s move would either succeed in obtaining the anomalous crystal from Sink, or fail and leave them in a dire situation.

WHG found themselves in a dilemma. They didn’t know who had the anomalous crystal. On one hand, they wanted to pursue Sink, but on the other hand, they couldn’t let the Dawn mechas in front of them go.

Having been tricked by Dawn so many times, they no longer underestimated this small team. As WHG’s commander hesitated, several Dawn mechas took the initiative.

“First, lock onto that S-Class mecha and eliminate it.” WHG’s commander calmly directed, “They still have another Artillery mecha, so watch out for both of their Artillery mechas.”

WHG was aware of the differences in both teams’ compositions. WHG’s lineup had a mix of close and long-range capabilities, though they were missing a Medical. Dawn’s composition had two Artillery and one Control, Tank and Stealth, giving them strong capability for long-range suppression. However, WHG’s squad had two S-Class mechas, while the others were A-Class. Even in a 5v5 match, their overall strength surpassed that of Dawn’s mechas.

“They wouldn’t dare waste time fighting us seriously.” WHG’s commander continued, “They’re probably trying to force their way through our protective circle and dismantle our shield first.”

Given the significant disparity in strength, the best approach was to pick them off one by one, starting with dismantling Dawn’s shields.

Qi Sicheng noticed the target WHG’s commander had indicated. After several exchanges, the gap between their team and WHG’s was widening. The differences in mecha and weapon parameters had clearly enhanced WHG’s attack power. His Heavenly Thunder Cannon could only serve a control function, with most of the output coming from You Su and Wen Yi.

Wen Yi said, “We can’t beat them head-on, but the good news is they only have two long-range mechas, so they can only target our two long-range units.”

Qi Sicheng replied, “Lejie, block one side. Artillery, clear a path. Let’s try to pressure them from the side.”

“How do you plan to pressure them?” Zhao Lejie interjected, “Damn, they’re definitely going to dismantle our shield; I’m the one who always gets hurt.”

Ji Qingfeng reassured him, “With great power comes great responsibility.”

You Su suddenly asked, “Qi Sicheng, can you block their Control?”

“I can,” Qi Sicheng confirmed. “I can completely shut down their Control, but I won’t be able to monitor the other roles, leading to defensive gaps.”

“No need for defense,” You Su said coldly. “Just push them back.”

While WHG was focusing on taking them down one by one, they suddenly noticed a mecha bursting out from the group in the distance. “An Artillery is out; lock onto it!”

The red-and-white Artillery mecha moved agilely. Just as WHG’s Artillery locked onto it, its maneuvers were quicker and fiercer than Dawn’s other mechas. It leaped out of the Tank’s encirclement, and in the next second, a Compressed Windstorm rushed toward WHG’s front-line Tank.

WHG’s Artillery failed to lock onto Trace’s Sniper Cannon. “A ground-hugging Sniper Cannon!?”

The power of the S-Class mecha’s Sniper Cannon was overwhelming. WHG had fought many seasoned mecha pilots, but they had never encountered such an unconventional firing angle.

In this not-so-spacious cavern, the operational difficulty for an Artillery mecha also increased significantly.

After the first shot ended, the red-and-white Artillery mecha fired a second shot, and WHG’s Artillery missed intercepting it again, the shell crashing into the ice wall. “It’s no good; his shots are too off-target.”

WHG’s commander frowned. This S-Class mecha’s Sniper Cannon didn’t follow conventional attack routes. The trajectory of the entire sniper shell was extremely low, almost grazing the ground, putting it in the blind spots of normal mecha combat.

Qi Sicheng’s gaze captured You Su’s attacking rhythm. The opponent’s bombardments were recklessly violent and completely different from Wen Yi’s steadiness. In fact, he even took risks to push forward into the bombardment range, leaving Zhao Lejie’s shield protection. No wonder they needed to control the enemy’s Control mecha; he had to give Trace more freedom. “Wen Yi.”

Wen Yi switched to a Sniper Cannon, nodding, “Got it. Press hard.”

Zhao Lejie heard the two commanders’ cryptic phrases: “Wait? Press hard?! Boss, why are you talking like Sink now?”

WHG intended to gradually dismantle their shield, but Dawn was playing completely against the norms.

After the Compressed Windstorm’s damage subsided, an ice-type sniper shot penetrated the storm, crashing once again into the WHG Tank’s shield. Two shells bombarded them simultaneously, and at that moment, Dawn’s Stealth mecha, QingF, utilized its claws to navigate through the artillery fire, dismantling an energy tube and scattering it toward WHG.

Zhao Lejie exclaimed, “Holy shit, Ji Qingfeng badass ah!”

“Not every man can walk freely through a hail of bullets,” Ji Qingfeng explained. “It takes practice.”

Dawn’s two Artillery mechas, from the left and right, ignored everything else. They unleashed powerful sniper shots of wind and ice against WHG’s shields without any concern for consequences. Coupled with the energy tube’s explosion, the entire ice cave trembled, with signs of ice crumbling everywhere.

Theo was getting increasingly excited. “You Su! Hit the left! That Tank is right-handed!”

WHG’s Tank was on the defensive, but as it raised its head, it saw the red-and-white Artillery mecha aiming its Sniper Cannon at it again. The tricky trajectory of the shell struck its shield, and this time, it couldn’t maintain its footing, getting pushed back several steps along with its shield.

WHG’s commander was momentarily stunned. “Is Dawn crazy?!”

“Are they really willing to risk their lives, blasting a path through like this?!”

Dawn knew they couldn’t win a straight-up fight. Their current objective wasn’t to engage but to use the firepower of the two Artillery mechas to forcefully push back WHG’s shield!

WHG had no choice but to switch targets, locking onto the flying Artillery mecha. “Stealth, go catch Trace.”

Zhao Lejie noticed the opponent’s change of direction and quickly warned You Su. A glance revealed the red-and-white Artillery mecha tossing an energy tube forward. It raised its Sniper Cannon and blasted the descending energy tube, sending WHG’s Stealth reeling back with the explosion.

In the close range, the sniper shot and the energy tube’s explosion hit hard. The red-and-white Artillery mecha nimbly switched to its Wind Enhanced Energy Cannon and blasted backward, bursting through the storm and launching a surprise attack right in front of WHG’s Stealth mecha.

WHG’s Stealth skillfully dodged the attack but was pushed back several steps by the force of the energy tube’s blastwave.

Before he could react, the red-and-white Artillery mecha surged through the storm, its close-range Wind Enhanced Energy Cannon pressed against his waist.

You Su fired a close-range shot, forcefully blasting WHG’s Stealth into the ice layer.
