Genius Mechanic: Chapter 221

Slared Contaminated Zone(Territory-Wide Abnormal Move)

221. Time Flow Rate

Proofread by Cloud Chip Cake and An Zheee

WHG’s Tank took two steps back, staring helplessly at the collapsed area in front of him. While he was frantically calling for his teammates’ help through the communication channel, a sudden noise came from behind. He quickly turned around and saw the Dawn mechas, which they had surrounded earlier, now standing safely behind him, along with the Artillery mecha that had been bombarding him for a long time.

Outnumbered and surrounded, WHG’s Tank stepped back in fear. He glanced uncertainly at the collapsed area again.

These maniacs! They had actually buried both GBK and WHG and escaped themselves! From the moment they lured GBK in, everything had been calculated. Their earlier use of energy tube explosions was just a distraction; their real objective was right here!

Zhao Lejie, who was used to playing the good guy, suddenly noticed the E.M. mecha in Ying Chenlin’s hand. It seemed like they’d managed to offend almost all of the top five factions in the Star Alliance by now.

WHG’s Tank, now looking at the Dawn mechas as if they were a group of demolition lunatics, asked, “What do you plan to do?”

Among the colorful Dawn mechas, the mecha holding the Spatial Displacement Staff responded calmly, “The upper ice layer here is structurally stable and hasn’t been damaged by pollutants. Only a portion of it collapsed, so it won’t cause any major issues.”

WHG’s Tank remained silent, watching them warily.

“You have the displacement weapon, don’t you?” Ying Chenlin casually held E.M.’s Artillery mecha in one hand and put away the Spatial Displacement Staff. He added calmly, “If you go back to rescue them now, you’ll still make it in time.”

WHG’s Tank knew the displacement weapon was with him. Because of that, he hadn’t been able to rescue his teammates during the earlier explosion. It was clear that Dawn had long been aware that the weapon was with him. Trace’s bombardment had been a provocation, while the other mechas kept their Control and Artillery occupied, ensuring that WHG’s Tank, who had been pushed back the farthest by Dawn’s Artillery, would be forced to chase after Trace.

From afar, the sounds from the mechas buried in the ice could be heard, accompanied by curses and complaints amplified by their external loudspeakers.

“Let’s go, let’s go,” Zhao Lejie heard Bai Xuyan’s voice. “We buried Bai Xuyan in Coria once, and now we’ve buried him again. I’m worried he’ll hold a grudge.”

“How could he not hold a grudge? There are even more people upset this time,” Ji Qingfeng sighed helplessly. “Well, the realm of the invincible is lonely, and being hated is also an honor.”

The Dawn mechas had no intention of lingering. After regrouping, they quickly left with the captured E.M. Artillery mecha, paying no attention to WHG’s Tank behind them.

That Tank had a displacement weapon and could rescue his teammates if operated properly. But by the time they all escaped, Dawn would have long since moved far away, not to mention that Ying Chenlin had left E.M.’s Stealth as a decoy at the perimeter.

Above Slared’s ice cave, after detecting a massive energy explosion, the radar coordinates of WHG and GBK teams at the cave’s bottom stopped moving entirely. Meanwhile, the Dawn mechas had completely escaped the encirclement of both major teams and were heading toward the cave’s exit without looking back.

The communication channels of the elite teams were silent. A detailed detection report from logistics showed the intensity of the energy explosion at the cave’s bottom, combined with the fact that Dawn had buried several of SLY’s mechas when the elite teams first gathered at Slared’s Snowy Mountains, it wasn’t hard to guess what had happened underground.

Alex didn’t speak. WHG’s current captain was also at the Snowy Mountains, looking at the coordinates of all his teammates. Not long ago, he had received a message from WHG’s Tank at the bottom of the cave, and knew that the plan to seize the special pollutant’s anomalous crystal had completely failed. This time, Dawn had directly used E.M.’s Stealth mecha to outmaneuver both WHG and GBK…

Even without E.M.’s Stealth, for Dawn, it would have just been a matter of dealing with WHG first and then GBK.

Now, with the added E.M. Stealth mecha, Dawn was able to quickly adjust their tactics and simultaneously outplay two elite teams in such a short time.

At present, only SLY’s mecha, Alice, remained in the front, but it was no longer capable of posing any threat to Dawn.

WHG’s Tank: “Captain, should I keep chasing?”

“Don’t chase. Get them out and return to the surface,” WHG’s captain replied. “This year’s Star Alliance Competition is getting interesting.”

The other members of PJT, seeing their captain still guarding the cave, didn’t know how dire the situation below really was. But now, looking at the current state of things, they realized that if they had sent a few mechas down to snatch the crystal at the start, they might have ended up buried like GBK.

Norbert, noticing that the other elite teams had quieted down, shifted his gaze toward where Dawn’s mechas were. It seemed his mind had already wandered in that direction.

None of the other elite teams made any further moves. The mecha pilots of the various teams looked at the Dawn mechas moving forward from the bottom of the ice cave, and then turned their attention back to the four Dawn mechas still stationed in the cave. This time, no one dared to underestimate this previously obscure little galaxy. They had emerged as a dark horse in the Star Alliance Special Mission, breaking out of encirclements by several elite teams and rising to fame with a single battle.

Wu Qingshuang, her eyes fixed on the few moving mechas, suddenly chuckled softly. “I underestimated them. Send a message back, let the chairman know not to worry—the pollutant core should be in our possession.”

At the Slared Defense Line, the starships of several elite teams hovered over the abandoned Slared Management Bureau. Among the massive starships, a small spaceship seemed out of place, yet no one dared ignore them.

The news of the failed energy theft spread from the elite teams to the Star Domains and galaxies backing them. In the Star Alliance’s Supreme Council’s headquarters, the presidents of the various Star Domains and galaxies, dressed in suits and wearing solemn expressions, sat together. After much discussion, the plan to prematurely terminate the long-debated Star Alliance Special Mission was finally approved following the agreement of several high-ranking officials, entering the next phase.

The president of the First Star Domain sat in a prominent position, his expression serious as he felt the scrutinizing gazes from all directions. He quietly glanced at his light-brain without revealing any emotion.

“The captain’s message has already been relayed to the Fifth Star Domain.” Inside E.M.’s starship, staff members passed on the latest news from the Star Alliance’s mission-related meeting. “The Star Alliance meeting is nearing its end, and the commander has already requested assistance from the Third Star Domain. If everything goes as expected, news of the mission’s termination will be announced shortly.”

This Star Alliance Special Mission hadn’t lasted long. The discovery of a special new energy source beneath the Snowy Mountains had stirred things up, and the reasons behind Slared’s instability were gradually becoming clear. The Star Alliance’s intervention was predictable. Since the energy couldn’t be seized, there was no point in delaying the Alliance meeting. By helping the First Star Domain secure the new energy as soon as possible, they could also curry favor with the First Star Domain.

After hearing the report, the gaze of E.M.’s head coach darkened slightly. “Dawn really made a name for themselves this time.”

“When we return, it’s time to pull up the complete files on those mecha pilots for technical research. Also, send a few people to investigate the Dawn Galaxy and prioritize looking into the mecha designer behind KID, someone named Yuan.”

Upon hearing the head coach’s instructions, someone nearby asked, “Do we need to investigate everyone?”

“Everyone. Do you think Sink alone could have stirred up such a big situation?” E.M.’s head coach replied. “To be able to outmaneuver two elite teams underground, the other mecha pilots aren’t lacking in skill either.”

His attention was drawn to the bottom of the Dawn team roster, where the mecha pilot Trace was listed. “An Artillery mecha that can break through defenses—it’s not simple.”

As soon as Trace was mentioned, a staff member suddenly spoke up. “About Trace, the investigation Captain Alex asked us to conduct is finished… His file is strange and very difficult to trace.”

Hearing this, the head coach asked, “Where’s the file? Let me see.”

“What’s wrong with Trace?” Another coach turned to the staff member. He remembered Trace—a highly skilled lone Artillery mecha pilot. “I recall his record in the Mecha League was quite clear. He was suspended for a few years and then returned to the League. Is there a problem?”

“His League history checks out. What Alex had us investigate was his background.” The head coach took the file from the staff member, his gaze resting on the document. His eyes darkened slightly as he said, “No wonder it took so long to dig this up… This Trace is no ordinary person.”

The investigation into this individual had begun as soon as Alex instructed them at the start of the Star Alliance Special Mission. Initially, the file on this person was shockingly sparse. Even after leveraging their connections within the Mecha League, they couldn’t find much additional information. In the end, it was only through some leads from a faction in the Fifth Star Domain’s Frontier Army that they managed to uncover a few faint traces.

“The son of Lin Yi, one of the leaders of the Frontier Army in the First Star Domain, and You Yuying.”

The head coach frowned, saying, “The Frontier Army has hidden all the information too well.”

Someone else chimed in, “You Yuying? I remember she was from the Third Star Domain…”

You Yuying was a special non-staff officer in the Third Star Domain’s Frontier Army. She was once the captain of a special unit in the Third Star Domain’s Frontier Army, but later retired and became a freelance mercenary mecha pilot. For years, she had been active in Contaminated Zones along the frontiers of various Star Domains. The Frontier Armies of all these domains found her uncontrollable; she was an incredibly reckless woman.

However, there hadn’t been any news about her in recent years, and rumors about her were becoming scarce, leaving her fate unknown.

The staff member seated at the operations console turned around and reported, “The commander of the Star Alliance Special Mission and the Third Star Domain’s Frontier Army have arrived on the outskirts of the Slared Defense Line.”

E.M.’s head coach remarked, “If I’m not mistaken, the Star Alliance Special Mission commander is also from the Third Star Domain.”

As the Frontier Army of the Third Star Domain approached the outskirts of the Slared Defense Line, it caught the attention of most elite teams.

Inside the Third Star Domain’s spaceship, a group of officers in military uniforms stood in the control room. The large virtual screen displayed the energy reactions beneath Slared’s surface, which were gradually stabilizing. The commander of the Star Alliance’s mission was also present. When they noticed Dawn’s mechas exiting the area, several of them looked a bit surprised.

“I didn’t expect that pollutant to be dealt with by Dawn. There has indeed been a lot more news coming from them over the past two years.”

“My impression of Dawn still dates back to the Ying Lingfeng era, where he kept winning the top spots in military exercises.”

“In the Mecha League, Dawn hasn’t been as famous as their frontier forces these past few years.”

“The underground energy reaction is still ongoing. The core must have been taken, as the magnetic field is calming down.”

The leading officer of the Third Star Domain’s Frontier Army glanced at the commander, saying, “If it weren’t for your timely notification, we wouldn’t have realized there was such a pollutant hidden within Slared. Even without your request, this matter should have been ours to handle.”

In recent years, the Third Star Domain’s frontiers had experienced numerous incidents, especially after the special energy reaction three years ago. Since then, the Third Star Domain had never ceased its frontier patrols. If the Frontier Army hadn’t been preoccupied with issues on the frontier, the hidden danger in Slared should have been resolved by them. However, with the frequent disturbances along the frontier in recent years, Slared had to be relegated to a Star Alliance Special Mission.

The commander of the Star Alliance’s mission said, “The approval to terminate the mission has been granted. Once we arrive, we need to conduct an investigation of the underground.”

As he looked at the stabilizing energy reactions, the stern look in his eyes did not diminish. “I still feel like there’s something off.”

“We have connected to the Slared Management Bureau system, and have obtained full control,” a soldier beside him reported.

An officer from the Third Star Domain said, “Conduct a full scan, leave no dead corners unchecked.”

The Star Alliance commander observed as all systems ran smoothly, with more details now appearing in the environmental analysis system. However, he suddenly paused when certain energy readings caught his eye.

The Third Star Domain officer noticed it too, and his expression instantly darkened. Pointing to a fluctuation in the environmental data, he asked, “Was this anomaly present before?”

The Star Alliance commander replied, “No, this wasn’t in the energy data I received earlier.”

“Pull up the energy spectrum for that section,” the Third Star Domain officer ordered.

Deep in Slared’s underground, vibrations from the explosion reached the position of E.M’s Stealth. Following Sink’s instructions, he had maintained a 30-kilometer distance from him. When the explosion occurred and continued for several minutes, Dawn’s main forces suddenly appeared in front of him. Neither GBK nor WHG’s mechas followed.

Seeing so many Dawn mechas, E.M’s Stealth instinctively took a step back. He was well aware of how massive the recent explosion had been and felt a strange sense of relief at having survived it.

As he stepped back, Ying Chenlin moved forward.

“Why are you retreating?” Ying Chenlin asked, puzzled. “Have you given up on your teammate?”

Realizing his mistake, E.M’s Stealth quickly stepped forward and took his teammate from Sink’s hands. When he saw the strange damage marks on his teammate’s mecha, he hesitated, but didn’t dare ask questions in front of so many Dawn mechas.

“I was wondering why you handed E.M’s mecha over earlier—turns out you’d already set up a new target point!” Zhao Lejie commented while watching the two mechas flying ahead. “But how did you manage to convince E.M.? They’re the Star Alliance’s top squad, yet they’re working with us so easily?”

Ji Qingfeng said, “That’s the Star Alliance’s vision for you—far beyond what we small galaxies can comprehend.”

He looked toward Ying Chenlin. “By the way, how much protection fee did we get?”

“Two storage units from E.M.,” Ying Chenlin explained. “Not sure what’s inside yet, but it seems like E.M. has been lingering around the Volcanic area, so there’s probably some valuable stuff in there.”

E.M’s Stealth: “…”

Ying Chenlin had no intention of wiping them out. Slared was already a dangerous place. His original plan was to heavily damage the other mecha if they didn’t cooperate, leaving them with 10% of their resources to give them a chance to escape on their own.

While flying forward, Ying Chenlin noticed You Su flying beside him. The plan had succeeded because someone managed to break through WHG’s defenses. Among all the mecha pilots, Ji Qingfeng and You Su were the most suited for the task. He had anticipated Ji Qingfeng would do it, but You Su’s quick actions sped up the entire plan.

The communication channel was lively, and apart from hearing his teammates, You Su also had the noisy Theo in his ear.

Theo, having thoroughly enjoyed the battle, flew alongside You Su, chatting excitedly about how he even exchanged pleasantries with the intelligences of the two S-Class mechas they fought. He wasn’t content with just talking to You Su; he kept trying to chat with the nearby Yuan. However, for every seven or eight sentences Theo said, Yuan only responded with one.

The man ignored the sounds of arguing between the mechas and his teammates, focusing instead on the pollution detection program in the cockpit. The data fluctuated steadily as the magnetic field interference decreased. His cold expression softened as the energy reactions stabilized. He raised his hand to turn off the program when he suddenly heard a voice close by.

“You Ge, are you in a bad mood?”

The private communication system’s default priority was active, and the highest priority communication had been automatically connected.

In Theo’s system, the highest-priority communication was always with Yuan, requiring no request to initiate.

You Su paused briefly at the voice, dismissing the detection program’s window. “Did you finish handling the hostage situation?”

A faint sound of laughter came through the communication channel. Hearing You Su’s usual lazy tone, Ying Chenlin paused slightly, realizing the topic had been deliberately skipped. He responded, “There’s nothing else to handle.”

Flying next to You Su, Ying Chenlin noticed the domineering mental power still lingering around the other’s mecha. As he got closer, he could sense that unrestrained energy. His gaze fell on the heavily worn Energy Cannon on You Su’s mecha—deep scratches and damage marked its surface, indicating that only aggressive maneuvers could have caused such wear.

The two of them remained connected through the communication link, but the conversation awkwardly halted after a single exchange.

Theo chimed in, “Hey, Chenlin’s trying to talk to you, why are you so harsh? You’ve scared him into silence.”

“The weapon’s damaged,” You Su replied.

Ying Chenlin, who was already inspecting his mecha, heard this and offered, “I’ll come over and fix it for you.”

Now that the obstacles, WHG and GBK, were cleared, and the Blue Heart’s root system had almost completely depleted its vitality, their return journey was much smoother than before. The traces left by GBK’s clearing operation were still evident, with remnants of pollutants and shattered volcanic rock scattered across the ground.

“These volcanic rocks, do we have anything like them in Dawn?” Ji Qingfeng asked.

Qi Sicheng replied, “The mineral resources in Slared are different from Dawn’s.”

“That means they’re valuable,” Ji Qingfeng immediately bent down to collect the broken stones scattered on the ground.

Zhao Lejie couldn’t bear to watch. “Can you at least pick them up with some dignity? You’re acting just like those scrap-collecting robots on the trash planets described in the archives.”

“Picking things up gracefully won’t make them worth more. Oh, by the way, is everything okay with Yao Bao?” Ji Qingfeng suddenly remembered that Lin Yao was still in the middle of a fight. “Maybe I should stop collecting these and go help deal with Alice.”

Wen Yi spoke up, “No need to deal with her.”

“I’ve been in touch with Lizi. They’re no longer fighting Alice.”

“They stopped fighting? Did they win?” Zhao Lejie asked, surprised.

Lin Yao and Chi Lizi hadn’t beaten Alice, nor had they lost. The battle ended when Lin Yao’s damage percentage reached 75%. Alice seemed satisfied and showed no interest in destroying Lin Yao’s mecha or pushing further.

She didn’t advance any further, and Lin Yao and Chi Lizi also decided not to take the risk of fighting her. The three mechas remained stationed at the entrance of the ice cave, motionless.

The outcome surprised Wen Yi. They had all witnessed Alice’s madness; she had smashed her way through the passage from the Snowy Mountains to the bottom of the ice cave. It baffled him that she would give up so easily. However, he realized that with just one mecha, it would be hard for her to face their numbers, something Alice likely understood as well.

“Ah? Why aren’t they coming over after the fight?” Ji Qingfeng asked.

Wen Yi rubbed his brow. “They said they were chatting. I’m not sure about the situation; they should be discussing weapons.”

Weapons…? Upon hearing the word “weapons,” Ying Chenlin turned to Wen Yi’s direction. “Weapons?”

Wen Yi replied, “It seems they were talking about SLY’s captain’s weapon. All I heard was them saying it’s cool.”

Ying Chenlin became interested in this cool weapon, shifting his gaze from You Su’s weapon to Lin Yao, seemingly wanting to check out the weapon up front as well. When he glanced at the radar map, he noticed that the mechas from WHG and GBK at behind them had changed their positions. They had emerged from the collapsed ice layer, but it was too late for them to arrive; they were already close to Lin Yao’s coordinates.

However, when he scanned the two radar signals that were quite far apart, his gaze suddenly froze.

You Su glanced sideways and noticed that the nearby mecha had lagged half a step behind. Yuan’s position was too close to the ice wall. Spotting a turn in the ice cave ahead, he saw that Ying Chenlin wasn’t changing direction, so he had to reach out and pull his flying mecha in his direction. “Ying Chenlin.”

Ying Chenlin didn’t respond.

You Su furrowed his brows, reiterating, “Ying Chenlin?”

“Movement speed has increased,” Ying Chenlin suddenly said.

“Aren’t they still behind us?” Zhao Lejie picked up a piece of volcanic rock. “Their speed hasn’t increased. Even if they used displacement to catch up, they wouldn’t reach us. Don’t worry; their displacement is slower than ours. We’re still accelerating while on the move; they can’t keep up.”

Hearing “movement speed,” You Su focused on the radar system, and when he noticed something, his expression turned icy. “It’s not their coordinates; the speed of all of our movements has increased.”

The highest threshold for mecha flight speed is limited, but with Qi Sicheng’s speed booster, their travel speed was exceptionally fast.

Because of this speed, they hadn’t sensed any anomalies… But now, looking back at WHG’s coordinates, the distance between all of them and WHG seemed exaggerated; their movement speed had almost increased by 1.5 times.

Ji Qingfeng checked the time inside his mecha, feeling that his perception of time was completely different from the rapid changes in the program, and he exclaimed, “My God—what the hell is this!?”

“The flow of time has accelerated,” You Su’s voice was filled with an unprecedented chill as he coldly ordered, “Everyone, get out of here immediately!”
