Parasitic Child: Chapter 22

Chapter 22: Teacher Xiao Yuan’s Commission

Teacher Xiao Yuan was one of the most eye-catching female teachers at school.

She was young and beautiful, always wearing a bright smile. Her lectures were lively and engaging, making her the goddess in the hearts of many male students.

Xiao Zhen stared at Teacher Xiao Yuan standing at the podium, taking in her soft skin, glistening eyes, slender and well-proportioned arms, then following down to her legs. No matter which part he looked at, the person before him was undoubtedly a young Homo sapiens woman in her prime—there wasn’t a single trace of that day’s true form left.

He was a little curious. If Teacher Xiao Yuan’s arm were to suddenly walk away on its own due to some interference, what kind of horror scene would unfold among the students in class? But ever since he started school, aside from that one incident he had witnessed, Teacher Xiao Yuan had never slipped up. Her disguise was flawless, just like a truly adorable and charming young human teacher.

Xiao Zhen didn’t know much about fine-legged crabs. From his limited knowledge, he only knew that this species specialized in group behavior, combining their bodies to disguise themselves as other creatures for hunting. He had no idea how these tiny crabs managed to see an ordinary human as their dream lover. It had to be because their brain capacity was pathetically small.

If Teacher Feng ever found out that a group of fine-legged crabs was secretly in love with him, he’d probably be so touched that he’d steam them in a pot.

Xiao Zhen shifted his gaze to the window. The experimental building remained a grotesque, supernatural spectacle. A massive eel monster coiled around the building, puffing out pale bubbles. Dark, tangled threads rolled through the air, humming. More spectral debris flickered and swirled in the sky.

He truly envied these humans who couldn’t see such mentally polluting sights. Xiao Zhen felt his own sanity value drop a little more. Mr. Mao had said that over the next few days, he would “deal with” the vortex inside the experimental building and hide it away. But judging from the current scene, the damned unstable void residues were increasing by the day.

For instance, right now, a chunk of rotting flesh was floating outside the window, its black mist teeming with multiple mouths opening and closing, revealing grotesquely deformed, saliva-coated teeth.

Xiao Zhen watched it with interest. It was merely a projection with no effect on reality, but even so, it exerted immense mental pressure on his host.

For the sake of both their mental and physical well-being, Xiao Zhen really wanted to get rid of this disgusting lump of flesh.

So, without a sound, he extended his transparent tentacle and, at the moment it touched the floating flesh, linked his consciousness to it.

(Hiss——)

The flesh monster trembled. (Hiss hiss hiss——)

The sensation after establishing a mental link was unpleasant—to put it bluntly, it was like breathing while submerged in rancid meat and rotten blood. If it weren’t so much of an eyesore, Xiao Zhen wouldn’t have subjected himself to such torture.

The flesh monster realized something was wrong and let out a muffled whimper.

(Don’t eat me————)

(I am willing to serve you————)

(Don’t eat me————)

(Let me praise you————)

Xiao Zhen froze for a few seconds after receiving its pleas. But what use did he have for a floating flesh monster’s projection as a follower? Especially when this thing couldn’t even affect reality.

(Don’t eat me, let me praise you————) The flesh monster continued to beg.

Its voice was like a chainsaw grinding against his skull. Before Xiao Zhen could respond, his host’s mind had already begun wailing in agony. If his host, Yan Zhen, were conscious right now, he’d probably be driven insane by this maddening noise.

The flesh monster began to keen—a hymn of reverence for a higher being. It had a total of eight tonal divisions, ringing in chaotic harmony, its slimy chunks of flesh rubbing together to produce discordant syllables—this was its sacred chant.

……

……

It was hard to describe how the one being praised felt at this moment.

Xiao Zhen thought it was like having his skull pried open and hot soup poured directly into his brain.

So, his tentacle grabbed the soft, squishy lump of rotting flesh—
And squeezed it until it burst.

“Yan Zhen, focus on the lesson.”

A piece of chalk hit Xiao Zhen on the head. Teacher Xiao Yuan smiled sweetly as she issued the warning.

Even though she was also an extraterrestrial visitor, Teacher Xiao Yuan was completely oblivious to the various anomalies surrounding the experimental building. That was normal. After all, over ninety percent of intelligent species in the galaxy were utterly defenseless against the perception of Mind-Devouring Demons. They were only capable of harboring deep suspicion toward these ultimate cosmic lifeforms—some even racked their brains trying to destroy them.

Well, there was nothing to be done about it. The pinnacle of cosmic evolution was bound to incite jealousy from the less intelligent races.

After class, Teacher Xiao Yuan told Yan Zhen to meet her in the office. This caused quite a stir among the male students.

“Wow~~~ A face-to-face, close-up encounter with Goddess Yuan. That’s amazing,” Gao Yuan joked.

Xiao Zhen asked, “Are you really that envious?”

“Of course! How could I not be?” Gao Yuan pretended to be moved. “I’d love to get one-on-one tutoring from Goddess Yuan.”

“You? Forget it.” The other boys laughed. “If Teacher Xiao Yuan ever visited your house, you’d be getting a ‘spanking stew’ for dinner.”

“You guys don’t know crap!”

It just so happened that Teacher Xiao Yuan really did call Xiao Zhen over for something related to a home visit—though not for one she would be conducting herself.

“Teacher Feng will be visiting your home tomorrow,” Teacher Xiao Yuan informed Xiao Zhen.

Xiao Zhen nodded. He already knew about it. Following the school’s latest directive, their homeroom teacher, Teacher Feng, was conducting a round of home visits, meeting with every student’s parents.

“According to his usual routine, Teacher Feng arrives at a student’s house around 7:30, chats with the parents for about 50 minutes, and then leaves.”

“Oh, you sure know his schedule well.”

“There’s a neighborhood park next to your house. At precisely 8:25, I will be walking my dog, just so happening to pass through the park, just so happening to take the road in front of your house, and just so happening to run into Teacher Feng.”

“……”

“So, you need to control the timing and make sure he steps out of your house by 8:20.”

“…Teacher, are you a stalker?”

“This is a tactical arrangement.” Teacher Xiao Yuan cupped her cheeks, speaking sweetly, “That way, I can ‘accidentally’ run into Teacher Feng and start a romantic evening stroll.”

I feel like the distance between “crab” and “romance” is about as vast as the thousands of light-years between the Cipher Galaxy and the Tanka Galaxy.

“In short, just make sure the timing works out!”

“…Teacher, you sure know how to boss people around.”

“This is the price of knowing my secret.” Teacher Xiao Yuan tilted her head, her bright eyes curving into a smile. “After all, I am your teacher.”

After dinner, Teacher Feng arrived right on time for the home visit.

The moment he sat down, he began with a stream of compliments. Yan Zhen was a good child, he said—attentive in class, always raising his hand to answer questions, submitting his homework on time, showing great respect for his teachers, and frequently helping his classmates.

Xiao Zhen sat there listening for a while and felt that the Yan Zhen Teacher Feng was talking about sounded nothing like himself.

Still, the flattery worked wonders. An Yuan was grinning from ear to ear, and Yan An looked pleased as well.

But then, Teacher Feng changed the subject. He pointed out that competition among students was fierce, and the upcoming high school entrance exam was a formidable challenge. Unlike in the past, modern students had better conditions, stronger learning abilities, and often, the deciding factor came down to who put in more effort.

Yan Zhen was smart, but his current grades still needed improvement. Teacher Feng firmly believed that Yan Zhen had yet to reach his full potential. Looking at his parents with sincerity, he expressed his hope to collaborate with them to better guide and supervise Yan Zhen’s development.

An Yuan nodded continuously. “You’re absolutely right, absolutely right.”

Teacher Feng continued, “The biggest distraction for students nowadays is external influences—computers, phones, and games all interfere with their focus.”

“Exactly!” An Yuan immediately agreed. She turned to Xiao Zhen, promptly translating the discussion into household policy:

“Xiao Zhen, you should cut back on your computer use. Your phone, too—it’s full of games. From now on, I’ll set up a schedule for when you can use them.”

“……”

At that moment, Xiao Zhen decisively tossed Teacher Xiao Yuan’s request out of his mind.

Right now, all he wanted was to get this teacher out of his house.

Teacher Feng was a seasoned conversationalist. After achieving the initial goal of the home visit, he started chatting casually with Yan Zhen’s parents, sharing amusing stories about students at school. The conversation was filled with laughter, and before long, it was already 8:16 PM.

Glancing at his watch, Teacher Feng stood up and bid farewell to Yan An and An Yuan.

Everything was going smoothly—until he passed by the entryway.

He stopped abruptly, pointing at a shell displayed in the cabinet, his tone filled with surprise. “Is this…?”

Yan An replied, “A Wanbao Conch.”

“I know, but this luster, this quality, and this size…” Teacher Feng clicked his tongue in amazement as he examined the conch. “This is the first time I’ve seen a Wanbao Conch so vibrantly colored and this large.”

“You’re into shell collecting too?”

“Oh no, no, I wouldn’t call it collecting. I just know a thing or two about shells.”

Xiao Zhen noticed that Teacher Feng’s eyes were practically sparkling.

“Could it be… could it be that President Yan is a shell collector?”

Yan An chuckled. “I wouldn’t go that far. I have some more shells in my study—would you like to take a look?”

“Yes!! Yes!!”

Xiao Zhen watched as Teacher Feng eagerly followed Yan An upstairs to the study.

The chicken perched on Xiao Zhen’s shoulder and said, “Your teacher just followed your dad into the study.”

“I know.”

“I don’t think this is something that’ll be over in five minutes. Just look at his expression.”

Xiao Zhen didn’t need the chicken’s reminder. He had already sensed Teacher Feng’s surface thoughts clearly—he was practically hugging Yan An’s leg, begging to see more shells.

Meanwhile, at the street corner, Teacher Xiao Yuan was standing with her dog, Qiuqiu, eagerly awaiting her romantic encounter.

Xiao Zhen glanced at the clock in the living room. He had to come up with a plan.

He walked toward the study.

Inside, Yan An was enthusiastically introducing his collection to Teacher Feng, who was grinning ear to ear.

Pointing to a shell with black spots, Yan An said, “This is a Black Spotted Cowry I acquired recently.”

“I know!! There are so many fakes of this one,” Teacher Feng exclaimed.

“I bid on this at an auction overseas. It’s the Hawaiian variety.” Yan An smiled. “You can pick it up and take a closer look.”

“Can I really?”

Teacher Feng was so excited that beads of sweat formed on his nose. He carefully picked up the glossy Black Spotted Cowry, his expression one of pure fascination.

The chicken clucked, “Your teacher’s surface thoughts have now changed to hugging your dad’s leg and singing ‘Conquer.’”

“I can detect that myself—I don’t need you narrating it.”

“Now his surface thoughts have changed to wishing he could spend the night buried in the pile of shells in your dad’s study.”

“……”

This needed to be stopped.

Teacher Xiao Yuan was still waiting at the intersection. Xiao Zhen had no desire to offend a teacher who had significant authority over him in the closed environment of school.

He decided to subtly influence Teacher Feng by sending out thought signals of “I want to leave” and “I should be going.”

This was one of the Mind-Devouring Demons’ abilities. To Xiao Zhen, it was simply applying a slight psychological pressure to his target. Any creature with a strong will could resist it.

For millennia, this ability was precisely why Mind Devourers were so universally despised by intelligent beings in the galaxy. If a Safety Committee or Supervisory Eye official detected Xiao Zhen engaging in such an unforgivable act of mental desecration, they would probably respond by obliterating the entire neighborhood with a volley of plasma cannons.

Teacher Feng, still stroking the shell, suddenly looked dazed.

Xiao Zhen intensified the signal, sending out waves of “I need to go” and “I should head home.”

Teacher Feng lifted his head and opened his mouth. “I need to—” Then, suddenly, his voice rose in excitement. “Could that be… a best quality Fultoni….”

Yan An chuckled. “Yes, it’s a Fultoni—only found inside shark stomachs.”

“I can’t believe it’s in such perfect condition…” Teacher Feng’s eyes glazed over. “President Yan, may I take some pictures?”

“Of course, feel free. You can take a look at this room as well.”

Yan An slid open a door, revealing an entire separate room dedicated to shell displays.

Teacher Feng’s expression was that of a devout believer witnessing divine revelation.

Xiao Zhen gave up entirely.

The chicken clucked, “At this point, the only way to get Teacher Feng out of your house is to set the place on fire.”

“……”
