Sharpening The Knife Doesn't Delay The Cutting of Vegetables With The Bow

Sharpening The Knife Doesn’t Delay The Cutting of Vegetables With The Bow[eSports]: Chapter 85

85. Hospital

“Today, why didn’t Fu Zhou come?”

The doctor in a white coat glanced at the various test reports in his hand and casually asked.

Yang Yunche had been to this hospital many times, and the doctor was quite familiar with the renowned captain of ZMD. Normally, it was Fu Zhou who accompanied Yang Yunche, but today, it was a new face, which surprised the doctor.

“Manager Fu had something to attend to, so I’m accompanying the captain today,” Chen Xingran replied.

“You’re his new team member, right?”

The doctor glanced at Chen Xingran and, seeing him nod, said, “All the indicators are relatively normal. People who play games often are prone to lumbar spine problems, but Yunche is doing relatively well. He should exercise regularly, considering he’s still young. It shouldn’t be a big problem.”

Chen Xingran nodded slightly, feeling somewhat relieved. He thought for a moment and asked, “When the captain had a gathering before, he drank alcohol. Would that have harmed his stomach?”

“That shouldn’t be a problem.”

The doctor said, “His stomach condition isn’t the typical kind you’d expect. It’s a deficiency of an enzyme that digests sugar in the stomach. He secretes much less of it than the average person, so he needs to control his sugar intake to avoid burdening his body. Drinking alcohol isn’t a big deal, but it’s still best to drink less, as it’s not good for the body.”

Chen Xingran acknowledged with a sound.

“Alright, that’s it for now. His body is doing well at the moment, so no need to worry.”

The doctor handed the report to Chen Xingran. “Keep up the good work. Although he can’t eat too many sugary snacks, occasionally having some sugar-free ones is fine, so you don’t have to be too strict.”

After so many check-ups by the doctor, Yang Yunche had some understanding of his fondness for snacks.

“Thank you.”

Chen Xingran took the report and nodded politely before going outside to wait for Yang Yunche.

After a while, Yang Yunche came out from the examination room. He was wearing a blue sweater today, looking like a model about to walk down a runway. Even with a mask on, his broad shoulders and long legs still attracted the attention of many nurses in the hospital.

He took the coat from Chen Xingran’s hand. “What did they say?”

Chen Xingran shook his head solemnly. “Not much time left.”

Yang Yunche: “?”

“The doctor said you eat too many snacks, which puts a lot of strain on your body.”

Chen Xingran sighed. “They told us to supervise you better in the future. You can’t touch any snacks.”

He thought his acting was flawless, but in a moment of carelessness, the report was snatched from his hand by Yang Yunche.

Yang Yunche glanced at the report and raised an eyebrow at Chen Xingran. “Is that so?”

Chen Xingran: “…”

“Your acting skills are terrible.”

Yang Yunche appraised Chen Xingran and commented, “Do you not know how to lie? Do you want me to teach you?”

“I’d rather not learn if it’s from you, teaching all these deceitful methods.”

Chen Xingran sneered, “I’ll report you to Manager Fu later.”

Looking at his expression, Yang Yunche felt amused. He reached out and ruffled Chen Xingran’s hair again. “Little tattletale.”

Caught off guard again by Yang Yunche’s touch, Chen Xingran was about to punch him, but Yang Yunche was quite tactful. After a quick touch, he withdrew his hand, looking completely natural as if the action just now had been accidental. This left Chen Xingran unable to find a reason to hit him, making himself seem petty. After some thought, he could only glare at Yang Yunche and let it go.

Yang Yunche pretended to be calm but was secretly amused.

“Let’s go back to the base.”

Chen Xingran took back the report from Yang Yunche’s hand, carefully folded it, and put it in his pocket, saying.

“So soon? It’s only noon.”

“Aren’t we training today?”

“We haven’t scheduled any training matches yet, so there’s no rush.”

Finally having a chance to be alone with Chen Xingran without other ZMD members bothering them, Yang Yunche clearly didn’t want to miss the opportunity to get closer to him. “Let’s go out for a meal together, go window shopping in the afternoon, and then we’ll have time to return.”

“Is there enough time?”

Chen Xingran hesitated.

“Why wouldn’t there be enough time?”

Yang Yunche was firm. “I know of a martial arts gym nearby that just opened recently. Are you interested in checking it out?”

Chen Xingran’s expression showed some interest.

Chen Xingran didn’t have any particularly unusual hobbies. At his age, most young people liked going out to drink, party, pick up girls, or go out for karaoke, meals, or barbecue. However, Chen Xingran avoided all of that and lived his life like a model citizen, despite being in the prime of his life. He was a genuine old-fashioned type.

The only things that could captivate Chen Xingran were probably things related to games and martial arts. Yang Yunche had done a lot of homework on this matter and finally found a martial arts gym.

In this era, very few people practiced martial arts anymore, and most martial arts gyms struggled to recruit students and faced closure due to poor management. This gym was the largest one Yang Yunche could find, and it was said to be doing quite well. Because of what Chen Xingran had proven offline in recent days, many people saw the charm of traditional martial arts and its assistance in gaming, sparking a desire to learn martial arts. It could be considered a stroke of luck, attracting many young people interested in traditional martial arts.

“Stop hesitating, let’s go.”

Not giving Chen Xingran a chance to refuse, Yang Yunche pushed his shoulder and walked outside. “I’ve already told Fu Zhou. Today, just follow my lead. The competition is about to start, and we won’t have much time in the future. Consider this as fulfilling one of my wishes.”

“Umm…”

Yang Yunche pushed him along, and Chen Xingran’s expression was dumbfounded, but in the end, he didn’t refuse.

Is your wish just to go out and have some fun? That’s too simple right…

The expression on Chen Xingran’s face was easy to understand, almost as if it was written there plainly, which made Yang Yunche secretly amused.

—Fool, can you guess what my wish is?

With a puzzled expression, Chen Xingran was led by Yang Yunche to the hospital lobby. Their affectionate demeanor caught the attention of people around them as they walked side by side towards the exit.

The hospital lobby wasn’t crowded; there were some patients waiting in line, and some duty doctors were patrolling. When Chen Xingran walked towards the door, a middle-aged man wearing a mask approached them.

Initially, he didn’t pay much attention as he was talking to Yang Yunche. However, when he passed by the middle-aged man, he couldn’t help but glance at him and then paused for a moment.

“What’s wrong?”

Yang Yunche noticed Chen Xingran slowing down and followed his gaze towards the middle-aged man. “Do you know him?”

“I don’t…”

Chen Xingran looked uncertainly at the man, hesitating, “But he looks a bit strange…”

The middle-aged man hurried along as if something were chasing him from behind. He wore a mask that covered half of his face, but his narrow eyes still showed that he was very nervous, and sweat beads dotted his forehead.

“Strange?”

Yang Yunche glanced at the middle-aged man. “Probably has something urgent to see a doctor about. It’s quite common in hospitals.”

“Oh…”

Chen Xingran nodded and continued walking outside.

After taking a few steps, the strange doubt in his mind lingered, so he turned back to look for a moment.

The middle-aged man reached the lobby and looked around. Spotting a duty doctor in the crowd, his eyes lit up, and he hurriedly caught up to him.

He obviously knew this doctor, stepped forward quickly to intercept him, and said something. His expression gradually became agitated, while the doctor, initially polite, became increasingly impatient, waving his hand to signal him to leave.

These gestures were like slapping the middle-aged man in the face twice. In an instant, the middle-aged man’s face turned red, and his expression became very excited.

Watching the doctor walk away, anger surged within him. He reached into his pocket, revealing a glint of cold steel.

Chen Xingran’s pupils contracted.

He finally understood what the strange feeling from before was. When the middle-aged man entered, his eyes carried a resolute expression as if he was prepared for death. Typically, people coming to the hospital for treatment would have a desire to live, but this middle-aged man did not, making his entire demeanor seem out of place.

With a shout, the middle-aged man charged at the doctor with a knife!

Feeling the wind behind him, the doctor turned around, only to be faced with a sharp knife. He was startled and instinctively dodged to the side, avoiding a fatal blow, but his arm was still cut, and blood gushed out, staining his white coat red in no time.

“Ah—”

“What’s happening??”

“He has a knife! Be careful!”

The sudden turn of events caused panic among everyone in the lobby. The previously quiet and orderly lobby suddenly became chaotic. The middle-aged man grabbed the doctor’s collar, his eyes red as he raised the knife, muttering something under his breath.

People nearby wanted to intervene, but he had a knife and was holding onto the doctor, preventing him from leaving. They were afraid of provoking him further, so they could only surround him and try to reason with him politely.

“Let’s talk things out calmly, don’t brandish the knife…”

“Yeah, whatever it is, just say it out. There’s no need for this!”

“Put down the knife first and calm down…”

“He’s only eighteen!”

The middle-aged man’s eyes were bloodshot as he roared, his words filled with resentment and anger, making people’s hearts race.

“He’s only eighteen… his life has just begun…”

As tears rolled down his eyes, the middle-aged man’s fingers still clenched tightly onto the doctor’s collar. “Why didn’t you save him? Why… Is the life of those wealthy people the only one that matters? You, this doctor who values money over lives, why didn’t you help him…”

From his excited words and intermittent messages, others roughly understood what happened.

It seemed that some time ago, this middle-aged man’s child was accidentally stabbed in the lung by a steel pipe and was urgently brought to this hospital. However, there was a shortage of staff at the time, and there was another patient waiting for surgery. The doctor who was caught up was the one who was supposed to perform the surgery. Faced with a choice between two patients, the doctor chose the other one. By the time another doctor arrived at the hospital to perform the surgery on the child, the best chance for treatment had passed, and a young life was lost.

During the gap when the middle-aged man was speaking, two strong adults tried to approach from behind to take the knife, but the middle-aged man seemed skilled. He broke free from the restraint of the two men in a few moves, and the sharp knife in his hand scared them off, causing the situation to stalemate again for a moment.

Yang Yunche could clearly feel the young man beside him shifting his feet, as if he wanted to step forward. He instinctively held Chen Xingran’s shoulder.

“It’s too dangerous.”

Yang Yunche frowned, expressing his disapproval. “There are security guards here. You don’t need to get involved.”

“He’s trained in martial arts.”

Chen Xingran’s eyes were sharp, and he could see at a glance that the middle-aged man was not an ordinary person. Even four or five people might not be able to handle him.

“That’s even more reason not to go…”

Yang Yunche still disagreed.

It wasn’t that he was indifferent, but the man had a knife, and he didn’t look like an ordinary person. Chen Xingran was unarmed. How could he fare well? Moreover, the man seemed like a desperate criminal, disregarding the consequences and already placing life and death aside. Such people were the most terrifying. If Chen Xingran fought with him and accidentally injured him fatally…

Yang Yunche couldn’t even bear to think about such a possibility.

“I…”

Chen Xingran saw the worry in Yang Yunche’s eyes. He opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment, a sudden change occurred.
